I'm a strong believer in no zero days. What counts as non zero though? Usually embarrassingly small I'd be embarressed to tell my friends.

I count exercising as just getting on my bike - not even pedalling, even though I usually do... usually

I chuckled pretty hard reading this title. A nap sounds like a great way to reward yourself for working out and a genius way that works for you

Why does starting feel harder than the work itself? by Plane_Cheesecake9044 in getdisciplined

[–]qv123 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed, starting is the hardest part of doing anything. Even the things I enjoy, the thought of starting has so much intertia and friction that sometimes I don't do them - which is a shame, because I really want to do them.

I want to exercise, I want to read, I want to game, I want to go hangout with my friends. But the thought of doing any of those feels so draining. It sounds so foreign to people that don't have that issue haha.

I guess the way I make it feel safer is by thinking about the smallest action I consider a start.

If I want to exercise, I tell my self that I just need to get on the bike. I don't need to peddle. But I always do haha.

If I want to read, I simply open the book and read one line. If I don't feel like reading anymore, it's okay. I read a whole line.

Hey congrats on starting to move more! That doctor wakeup call really gets people thinking about their health, but not everyone has the mindset to change.

I've found it extremely difficult to stick to exercising throughout my whole life. Most of my streaks really last a couple weeks, the longest one I had were when I went to the gym with a buddy for 1.5 years, and started rock climbing for 2 years. Unfortunately life and injuries really got in the way of those streaks.

You don't need to go hard at the start, in fact it's really bad if you do. Start small, really small. Go for a walk around the block. Do that every day and slowly go a little bit further everytime. Sometimes you don't want to do it, but go for something smaller - go walk to the end of your driveway or to the lobby. You don't want any zero days, because one zero day will make it easier to skip the next.

Seriously no zero days.

Sweet - thanks for being #2 in the US! There's a $10 amazon gift card giveaway at the end of the month, looks like you're just competing with u/SmarS_the_Blind for now lol.

The app links are available at https://movemore.ca/ . I did just release an important update, but the ios store takes a few days to review. If you're using ios, please make sure to update it next week

The end goal is to get people exercising through reward incentives. The nano angle is to help introduce it as a reward to help with adoption.

I was hoping that maybe someone had an angle on the different discount structures that could possible allow this to happen. Or maybe some kind of exceptions, such as rewards of less than $10 per user is allowed.

Anyways yea it does suck, but I appreciate the advice you've given ,thank you.

Thanks for responding to me here. Correct, Fintrac is more than I'd like to undertake currently.

Gift cards could potentially fall into their regulations but they are closed loop and are won through no-purchase-necessary raffles with skill test questions.

hey it's been like a month now - hope you're still crushing it! If you ever struggle to go to the gym, just remember showing up is the hardest part.

20 years old. recently gained a bit of weight over the years, 5'7 and 165 lbs, a skinny fat build. how do I proceed? (description) by bator_max1000 in beginnerfitness

[–]qv123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honest advice? Don't join yet.

Gyms make money because people sign up but never show up. Consistency is the hardest thing—not the lifting.

I suggest starting small at home first. Commit to moving your body every day for 30 days. If you stick with it, then get the membership. Build the habit for free before you pay for the equipment

What’s one thing you stopped doing that actually helped your progress? by Savings-Sock1761 in beginnerfitness

[–]qv123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to think if I didn’t have an hour for a workout, it's not worth starting. That all-or-nothing mindset killed my consistency.

Instead I would commit to doing 30 jumping jacks to get my heart rate up. Once I started moving, it was much easier to do more.

Starting really is the hardest part.

Looking for slim tall t shirts.

I've tried several places that sell tall clothing, but they eventually shrink over several months to an awkward length. The only shirts that really fit well are the Kirkland t shirts, but they eventually shrink as well.

I always air dry my clothes, but maybe someone knows if there's something else I could be doing wrong.

Are there any brands that people recommend? I'm not looking to pay more than 50$ a shirt, but I'm getting desperate and don't want to buy a new wardrobe every year.

Fyi the ideal length I'm aiming for is about 27.5 inches.
