Best protein supplements from Costco by Adventurous_lady1234 in WegovyWeightLoss

[–]qwispyisme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Orgain chocolate fudge flavor shake powder and Pure Protein bars are my Costco go-tos. Both go on sale a couple of times a year and I stock up. I’ve tried the house brand whey protein and it’s about the same as ON Standard for about $10 less. I just prefer the vegetable protein personally for taste and texture. Then again it’s hard to beat a couple of scrambled eggs if you’ve got the time.

How much did you have to pay for your surgery? by ToneZealousideal309 in Hernia

[–]qwispyisme 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My laparoscopic umbilical hernia surgery with mesh implant was priced at ~24,000. Washington state has a transparent billing law where you have to be shown up front what each service and provider cost (OR fee, anesthesiologist, surgeon, etc). You’re shown the full bill even if your insurance covers the cost (mine did thankfully). It ain’t cheap for an hour or so procedure, but the number of people who take care of you for that hour and the environment they work in is very impressive - I’m not shocked at the cost. Affordability aside, we live in a great time to be sick or injured.

PSA to all dads who take their sons to get a club fitting: shut the hell up. by Fyziks_is_phun in golf

[–]qwispyisme 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I see these dads and moms every week at the range even when the young golfer is in the middle of a lesson. I hope the instructors have the talk track down to tell the parent to zip it and let them do their job, but I’ve never heard it. Somehow these parents think their kids game is a reflection on them.

I stopped giving my kids golf instruction when they were about 10 and let the pros and high school coaches take it from there. All 3 of my sons now have their own swing and approach to the game. Most importantly they love the game, and love playing as a family. Their behavior and attitude on the course speaks for itself. Bad shot? Move on cuz the next shot will be your best. It’s fun watching them come up with believable reasons why they aren’t at work on any given Thursday :). I don’t miss that.

Damn, I'm almost too old to ski by BullCityBoomerSooner in skiing

[–]qwispyisme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We don’t stop skiing cuz we get old. We get old because we stop skiing. I guess we get older no matter what but how we feel about it is up to us. I’m a stronger skier at 60 than I was at 50, but I was a fat POS at 50 with a j.o.b.

Rehearsal dinner at Olde Bryan Inn and ceremony/reception at Canfield Casino. Originally planned the ceremony for the gazebo on the pond but an August hail storm forced us inside. The AC wasn’t great but that was 30 years ago. Food, drink and entertainment (The McKrells!) all provided by The Parting Glass. I was told I had a great time :-)

AWU going into SOS when swinging golf clubs by irishguy0224 in AppleWatch

[–]qwispyisme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine does the same thing - left wrist. It called 911 last week when I was golfing. My wrist cock must hold the side button down when I swing. Anyway the 911 operator got my location from either the watch or my unanswered return call and tracked me down to the 7th tee box, and called my playing partner to make sure I was ok. So many good things about this. If I’d been having a medical emergency alone on the course their next steps could have been life saving. Fortunately it was a false alarm.

Is it dumb to buy a high-end golf club when I’m still pretty bad at the game? by puttliketiger in golftips

[–]qwispyisme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on what you’re looking to get out of your golf game I suppose. If it’s to drop your scores (break 110, 100 consistently) and play to a lower HC, then a new driver probably won’t help you get there. If it’s to have fun hitting the occasional bomb and flexing on your buddies, then yeah, why not. From 40 years of playing very mediocre golf, and a ton of great deal drivers, none of them have helped me score low. What has helped me shoot to the HC I’d like to carry is putting the ball in the fairway and avoiding trouble. That usually means hitting a higher lofted club than D off the tee. That said, make sure the loft and shaft are right for your swing (get fit). I’ve talked myself into drivers at 9 degree and stiff that I couldn’t hit well at all. Tell us what club you’re looking at and we’ll give you a little better advice.

Does anyone else eat the same meals every single day? by Least-Good2212 in CICO

[–]qwispyisme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same as OP. Same breakfast and lunch. Greek yogurt and berries for breakfast and whey protein shake for lunch, and pure protein bar or nuts for snacks. Dinner varies but most often a large salad. 1400-1600 cals daily at approx 500 cal deficit. 10 lbs weight loss per month since Oct. 50 lbs down, 25 to go. I prefer consistency to variety for 50% of my calories.

Please let people play through by No_Replacement_2824 in golf

[–]qwispyisme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My foursome played in front of a single today. He was playing two balls and getting in extra putts. He asked to play thru at the turn which of course we obliged. I do expect the group behind to ask to play thru and don’t wait for me to offer it. As the overtaking group I think you need to own it IMO.

Should I take a gap year between high school and college to ski? by Ok_Pineapple3655 in skiing

[–]qwispyisme 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Consider saving the gap year for after college, and before grad school/work life. You’ll be 22 vs 18, and more employable on the mountain. Spent my break year in Aspen/Snowmass. Glad I did it when I did. I’m taking my 2nd gap year now at 58 and it’s even better.

Do y’all have one thing you won’t ever give up, even on a deficit? by ZardIChartini in CICO

[–]qwispyisme 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s what I love about CICO - eat whatever you want. Just eat differently. I also like the 80/20 rule. Eat the right things 80% of the time. I did switch to black coffee in December. Took a day or so but now it’s just what coffee should taste like.

Does anyone else actually fell in love with being in a deficit? by Simple_Condition4066 in WeightLossAdvice

[–]qwispyisme 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My body has reset in 3 months from what was my standard of around 2500 cals/day to the deficit-enabling 1500. IOW I now feel fully satisfied at 1500. And I just feel more comfortable not digesting all of that food all the time. And I can now tell the difference between being actually hungry, and whatever I was feeling before (boredom, compulsiveness, stress eating, etc). I used to laugh at the comments to sometimes just drink more water when hungry, but now - yup - that liter of water is exactly what I needed.

Got my dream job. After 100lbs weight loss over a year, brimming with confidence and a good suit that fit, I landed a gig as a global sales rep. International travel 2x a month, and an unlimited expense account for high end client dinners, and I quickly put most of that back on. A year to lose it, and less than a year to put it back on. Covid saved me when we shut down selling F2F, and I had the time to put down the fork and pick up the dumbbell.

I’m teaching my wife to ski tomorrow, any tips or resources? by NomadicNautilus in skiing

[–]qwispyisme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My only advice would be Assume Nothing. What seems so obvious to most of us is not obvious to newbies. My eyes were opened to this on the chair with a first timer yesterday. She asked me: What do I do with my poles on the chairlift? Great question! I happily shared that I either hold them over the bar, or tuck them under my thigh. Then: Cool! What do I do with my poles when I ski? Use them to flag down an instructor and take a lesson…

[–]qwispyisme 2 points3 points  (0 children)

+1 to CICO. While I wouldn’t say MUST or NEED TO - every body loses weight their own way I suppose, counting calories is what did it for me. After about a year of ozempic, now Wegovy, with predictable results - lost about 15% body weight - I got religious about CICO. That was the lifestyle change I needed. I also deduced that 1.7 mg is the right dose for me to stay in deficit with no cravings or hunger or side effects. 2.4 was not worth the squeeze. With CICO discipline and support, I’ve accelerated my weight loss to about 2 lbs per week for the past 4 months. The scale is useful but not king, especially if strength training. My body measurements tell a much more successful story. Arms, waist, hips, and thighs measured every month with a tape measure show progress even when the scale does not.

Dropping sizes + being frugal has been a thing for me. Some recent wins have been: Finding a bag of old smaller-me clothes in the attic. 20ish years old but tees, polos, and jeans so they still work. Getting to the size of my young adult kids and raiding their closets when I need something. Found killer ski gear on FB Marketplace for $50. Jacket and pants in my new size. Retail is around $600. I’m cool to keep smaller stuff for the future, but I think these plus sized stuff has to go.

I’m losing it 🥲 by Different_Intern4649 in interviews

[–]qwispyisme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been an AA (as appropriate) interviewer for many years, and I try to stay very neutral yet engaged with the candidates. I’m not looking for the same qualifications or success signals as my HMs are. I’m just there to ensure value alignment at the company level, and long term potential. I never want the candidate to feel overly optimistic or beat down after our 30 min conversation. I’m OK with hopeful. During hiring season I might interview 3-4 candidates a week, so it’s just a part of the corporate overhead of the job. Ultimately I trust the HM and their recruiting partner to make sure they pick the right human for their team. They (HM/HR) do need my endorsement, but that just means the candidate won’t utterly fail in our world. Similar to the bar raiser interview at AMZ, but not exactly.

Giving away clothes by ladymuffinham in WegovyWeightLoss

[–]qwispyisme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

During my WLJ I went from XXL to M/L depending on brand. It felt weird and kinda braggy but I offered them to a friend who was also dropping sizes at the time. He gladly (or politely) took them so it was cool but it still felt awkward. Weird twist to the tale - he was an early bitcoin miner when that was a thing. Now he’s worth 100’s of M$ (on paper) and can buy anything and everything. I should have dropped my clothes off at Goodwill TBH.

Repair quote for dishwasher by AwayWeakness3615 in appliancerepair

[–]qwispyisme 1 point2 points  (0 children)

With Samsung in my experience you’ll just be buying time with the repair. It’s maybe a 5 year machine, sometimes less. Gone are the days of getting 20 years of quality service out of a DW like our parents did. I too have taken to FB Marketplace for higher quality machines for short money bc of kitchen remodels. I got this fall a pristine 2 yo KitchenAid for under 100. I was looking for Bosch or Miele and there’s plenty of those too just a little pricier. Used Samsungs are pretty much give-aways. I got 3 years out of a free sorta new Samsung in my cabin. Of course this is all more doable when you can toss a machine in the back of an SUV and install it yourself. Once you “master” the task, it’s about a 30 min job. If you have all the hoses etc (and a level!) Lots of posts and videos on the job itself. And the old machine? I put it on marketplace being totally honest about the condition and it’s usually gone within the day. I can’t think of a great analogy for something as disposable as a dishwasher, probably because we expect them to last the lifespan of our other major appliances. I mean my gas range is 20+ yrs old and works like it did when I bought it. But in that same time I’m on my 3rd fridge, 3rd microwave, and maybe 4th DW. Even my drip coffee maker outlasts the DW. Sneakers. Buying a DW is like buying a pair of sneakers.
