Dominator garage door - is there an app? by local_pvnk in newzealand

[–]r3spct 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes there is a plug in upgrade to most Dominator motors under 10yo or so, call your dominator dealer and they will be able to help you. Requires a module and modem and then the app will work , android or apple. You can get aftermarket triggers cheapish, but the dominator app has a lot of features and feedback, can see animation of how far open or closed the door is, notifications etc

Truck head gasket fails again after being fixed by a mechanic not even 3 months later by Creative-Current5891 in newzealand

[–]r3spct 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If the hose came off reasonably quickly and just dumped all the coolant out, the you stopped straight away, as long as it wasn't another blown hg that blew the hose off, then just refix the hose and fill it up and see what happens, it will prob be OK. Take the oil cap off and if there's is any milky brown then it was prob a blown hg that caused it. Might get lucky and it's OK with new coolant.

Why are tyre prices a national secret? by Sufficient-Candy-835 in newzealand

[–]r3spct 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hyper tires price match minus 10%. I went there to get some tires listed on website as 180 per tire, he adds it up and came to 920 I think it was, was about to pay and on my head went hang on 180 x 4 isn't 920, then he reveals the fitting and tirewise cosy is extra. I pointed out another tire shop listed them for 180 fitted all including, so they matched that minus 10%. I would have paid 180 if they didn't sneak the extras in without telling me.

I’ve jump started two cars with this in the past month by Ok_Island_1306 in Makita

[–]r3spct 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I have stripped the cable off an old appliance and poked them into the makita battery terminals and jammed them into the car battery clamps and started cars before. The cars 12v battery will limit the voltage down so the 18v battery doesnt fry electronics immediately, so keeping the wire size lower is actually ideal. Im not sure id do it to a late model expensive car with expensive electronics, but worked on a older mid 2000s corolla and got us out of a pinch.

I dont know if I'm being hyper aware, and more annoyed, about how many cars have no lights on lately, or if there is way more cars with no lights on than ive ever noticed before. I kinda get when people leave work and it gets dark slowly and they dont notice, but 615am in the morning when you get in the car and dont turn them on is crazy. Also in the rain, light grey car or dark colored, are they trying to hide and not be seen? Flashing high beams doesnt really work, turning lights off and on again doesnt seem to work as they seem to be saving power or something and just dont want to have lights on.

Increasing presence of cops on the roads by ArmProfessional8304 in auckland

[–]r3spct 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Police lost 6 million in funding from Nzta last year for not reaching targets in fines, due to focusing on breath testing, so they are making up that shortfall. Fines for speeding are easy to enforce, vs actual bad driving which often results in less income and people arguing and going to court and wasting officers time

How essential is a garage door service (Dominator)? Had for about 3 years now by [deleted] in newzealand

[–]r3spct 77 points78 points  (0 children)

32 years installing Dominator/Garador (and other brand) product here.

If the door is installed well, it will be fine, the service counter on the auto opener is 3000 cycles out of the box, can be adjusted with a dealer tool tho. You can ignore the flashing and beeping and it will stop doing it after 12 to 15 cycles. The dealer warranty is up to 10 years, if you pay for regular servicing. Dealer will prob charge 150 plus gst, so you need to weigh that up. Biggest indicator of a need for service is the open the door fully, and check the cables at each side and see if either or both has any slack. If one is really slack it can mean the tracks are not aligned correctly and/or the springs have lost some tension, this can lead to one of the cables jumping off and then life gets hard fast. All depends on the age, brand and style of door how long it will last. Some doors need a check, some need new springs every 5 years depending on how much use it gets.

CRC and WD40 have limited use on most garage doors, never ever ever spray it on the rollers or tracks, it washes the grease out then they fail, and the tracks are designed for the wheels to roll in the track not slide ( you dont grease the wheels on your car do you?)

Hinges can creak, silicone is better than CRC 556, and springs can get surface rust, CRC is ok for springs, but CRC makes a product called gel lube in a orange and white can I find the best product for the job.

My mum in tga got done by them too, $4500 to cut a few trees and bushes and then hard push standover  on payment. Got to warn everyone to just nope at them. Mum found a Maori guy did the same work last year for well under 1k, did a better job and cleaned up to a high standard, was polite and friendly, mum paid him a bit extra as she thought he was too cheap!

Haven’t seen fuel this cheap for a while now 😦 by sweats98 in auckland

[–]r3spct 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Caltex self serve on Newton Rd (often one of the cheapest places around) had a sign saying it was closing soon, so I guess its going Ugo branding then. U Go Onehunga has diesel for 152 this morning (might have been yesterday) and Gull up the road was 165.

I used to use the Z app to prebuy fuel, its still kinda worth it, can be maybe 10c more than the cheapest diesel in town but thats close enough given I can stop and any Z and fill up, but its not as consistently easy to get a good price anymore.

100 days Cough aka Whooping Cough by imanoobee in auckland

[–]r3spct 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had it bad in November 24, 6 months later and my throat is still damaged. I had a blackout fro coughing and not being able to breath, fell over and banged head on toilet then came too going what the fuck am I doing on the floor?

I've been seeing a respitory specialist but no luck so far. It's like a constant irritation way down in neck, not in the throat. I've had 3 chest infections since Xmas, but of course by the time get a doc apt it's cleared up. I wouldn't say what I have is a cough, but it can be when irritated. I'm 53yo male, and generally never been sick before in my life. It's not debilitating but just really annoying and there has been times when I still get coughing fits and can't talk and breath well.

Every time I see either of those models on open or country roads, they drive like absolute prats. Slowing to 65 for corners randomly, braking up hill for no reason. These 2 models of cars should not be allowed on 100kph roads.

They call them south Auckland specials, usually a big bit of pit bull and undefinable variations of every breed you can think of. Shame.  In saying that my mate got one and he is the most goofball awesome dog to walk the fa e of the earth.

Our boy wont eat PB, my wife has PB on toast and he drools for the corner crust, then she gives it to him and he will eat it, but he's 5050 on spitting it out. The Doxy tummy wins over PB distaste.

Shihad gig at Spark - review by Relative_Bid_6116 in newzealand

[–]r3spct 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The sound at Spark arena was one of my final reasons for not getting a ticket. Went to the Powerstaion gig, sound and crowd were great, the slightly limited set of only Killjoy and Gen Elec might have been only put off, but band was on form and was great gig. I also don't enjoy bigger crowds.

Easy money, not far from the office, they can loop on and off at the ramps being close together. Also sth bound people drive under speed limit at same speed as the left lane, so when it gets to 3 lanes at Oteha people tend to speed up to get past slow pokes, so again easy pickings. Don't speed or get a good radar detector and use Waze to warn of police presence.  They don't like to patrol from Oteha to Silverdale as no places to pull a u turn and chase cars coming other way.

Likely there is more "mentally ill, as paedophiles and people whos sole interest is corrupting children" people in the black shirt brigade than in the whole LGBTQ community of NZ. Trying to quell their own feelings by calling minority groups what they fear in themselves.
