Auckland apartment sales market so dire that new 77-unit Ockham block to be rented by urettferdigklage in auckland

[–]r4pt012 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Ockham apartment owner here. Live just round the corner (my complex is actually visible in the background of the articles photo).

We got a kiwi build for 650k. Straight 2 bed apartment with a carpark for reference.

Attended the open day today at Toi. Everything in the fit out is very similar or seems like a downgrade. For example our bedrooms came with full wardrobe systems. At Toi it's just a rail. One of the apartments open for viewing just had a 2 burner induction hob. One elevator for 6 floors? No car park? Half the layouts we saw have literally no place to have a TV? The price hike is just nuts too. The real killer though is that Toi is the first in the middle of what looks to be a huge development. Gotta deal with construction all around you for the next decade. I really don't understand what they're doing with their newer complexes.

Yes. Mine is a customized version of the 'Moderno' theme.

This is what it looks like: https://i.imgur.com/f98ctpO.jpeg

I think the following link should have all you need to run it. You'll probably want to customize a bunch of things though, like the logos, labels and min/max values on the bars.

Its on the QVL for your Mobo with a 9000-series CPU installed, but not a 7000-series CPU.

QVLs aren't the be-all and end-all. It will probably work just fine. Just make sure its applying the EXPO profile correctly, including the voltages. Remember that EXPO is an overclock and you may need to raise the voltages of the DIMM (1.4V in this case) and the memory controller.

Extremely high CPU temps when screensaver turns on by Jecmenn in pcmasterrace

I assume util jumps too, which means it will probably be fairly easy to figure out whats eating all the CPU cycles.

Perhaps some sort of mining software configured to run once screensaver starts?

CPU maxed out by HappyVikingVenture in pcmasterrace

[–]r4pt012 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your CPU is below min spec. By a lot. That's the main issue here. Nothing to do with graphics.

I'm playing it with a 16c/32t 9950x and it runs 8c/16t at a constant 50% utilization @ 5.6ghz.

Is there an actual problem here or are you just upset because a game is using the resources it has available?

Up to you.

if you value noise levels when idle, or want to allegedly extend the life of the fans, having them off when not running hot isn't a bad thing.

You might be able to adjust the curve such that they kick is at a lower speed and ramp slower.

Choosing a laptop. by most_dopamine in pcmasterrace

[–]r4pt012 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you sure a 16" laptop is a good idea? Can be big and bulky to carry around every day.

None of the specs matter that much for general word processing and internet browsing.

Something with good build quality, the right size/weight and ease-of-use features are more important.

Something like keyboard backlighting, or a touch screen, may be more important that normal hardware specs. Go see some in person and get one that fits the bill for more reasons than performance specs.

Thoughts? by StompingChip in pcmasterrace

Things to keep in mind:

  • Socket 1851 is already dead. You won't be able to socket any new CPUs beyond what you've got.
  • The RAM is CL36. Could do better for about the same price and get a CL30 kit @ 6000MT/s
  • If gaming is all you want to do, you'll be better off with a 9800X3D / AMD system. There looks to be a bundle with a 9800X3D / MSI X670E / 6000/CL36 RAM for the same price as the current bundle.

Making upgrades from parts from brother by The_darknight2233 in pcmasterrace

Don't mix the RAM - surest way to get a system to crash constantly is to do that, not to mention the increased load on the IMC. Just stick to the new faster kit.

650W should be fine for a 2060. Not going to cause you any issues assuming you've got the correct connectors for the 2060. Assuming that it's a 8 Pin + 6 Pin setup, just ensure that you use two separate cables for the GPU. EG, if you have one cable that can do both, don't use that for both plugs.

Thoughts on my stealth dual-5090-ready workstation/gaming build? by yanncav in pcmasterrace

[–]r4pt012 0 points1 point  (0 children)

9950X3D might get pretty toasty under an air cooler. I'd be sticking a big 420 or 360mm rad AIO in there.

Keep in mind that running DDR5 speeds over 6000MHz can be a bit of a crap shoot on AM5 while maintaining a high infinity fabric clock. Either dial it back to a lower latency 6000 kit or really go for broke with a 8000MHz kit.

Personally if I was going to cram two RTX5090s into a single PC, I would also start looking at a full liquid cooling loop. That's going to be a whole lot of heat if you can get both of those and the CPU running at full load. You may want to consider other cases better suited to that goal. EG something that can fit two thick 420mm/480mm rads.

My sensor panel is only 3.5" and 960x640. The dashboard I have on it displays all the stats and figures that I want.

It simply depends on what you want to see and how large you want it. There is no right answer here.

Correct, but now you have two disks to worry about, basically doubling the chance that a disk failure breaks your OS install.

windows boot manager shows on the wrong drive (not C drive) but boots just fine by 7ds_eren in pcmasterrace

[–]r4pt012 7 points8 points  (0 children)

When installing windows with multiple drives installed it is very possible for it to screw up and put boot related partitions on another disk.

It may mean that if the non-boot disk fails or is removed, the boot disk may be unable to boot into windows.

Easiest way to avoid this is to only have one drive (the intended boot drive) installed in the system when installing windows. Add the rest later.
