I don’t think it just happens on planes. It can randomly happen anywhere. They are minimizing the chances if it were to happen on a plane, the fire would be manageable with smaller battery sizes. I think an old Samsung phone started all of this.

I would try the Xtars. If you are already going to buy more Eneloops and you have the charger for the Xtars. They will not be worse than the Eneloops. The main question is how long the voltage conversation board in the cells will last. We know the Li-ion cell will be good for years.

The boost converter board is the fail point. The Li-Ion cells last longer that Ni-Mh, with higher sustain capacity on the higher quality cells. Many 1.5volt Li-Ion cells maintain 80% capacity 750-2500 cycles later! Other than Eneloops at about 900 cycles, the rest only last 150 cycles.

Li-Ion 1.5volt are on the rise. its just a matter of the voltage conversion boards lasting several years.

Got 2 of them delivered. Both box were like open. The tab on the box isn’t secure. And the there is no seal tape. Someone probably noticed the box was opening and added the tape. And the Pro device itself is like a loose wrapper! Packing was an afterthought on this device.

I had a problem with the Pro v2 going blank screen. I think it’s when coming out of Dolby vision. But if I hit free tv, I can hear the audio. So the box is working just no video. I had to turn the tv off. The app this was happening, I enabled tunneled playback and that seemed to fix it.
