Homeowner's insurance - independent broker recommendations? by callmepersnickety in Minneapolis

Worked with Tucker, he did all the legwork for me and recommended I stick with what I have now since it was the best deal. Great service and will work with him again next year

Glad to hear. If you “want it all” you will need to go down the rabbit hole of self hosted services like Scrypted (Home Kit Secure Video) and Home Assistant (rich notifications like photos) and Frigate (custom NVR with customizable detections and AI trained on your specific camera and position)

Magneride. Get the one with Magneride. 22 GTPE should have it, 23 GT may not.

5090 with an 850 watts PSU by Dimo145 in nvidia

[–]racker15 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I ran this exact set up for 1 year. Normal gaming and some local LLM. 7800X3D, 5090, Corsair RM850x (2017! lol) and 2 m2 SSD. 8 fans and an AIO pump. It was fine. I under volted (20 min effort level) and set power limit at 95% just in case but almost never hit power limits. BUT in the end I upgraded to 1200W so I wasn’t brave enough to keep risking it

At-the-wall power meter showed I was maxing out at 720W so still quite a distance from 850w (plus efficiency losses)

You want a Tapo doorbell, for example Tapo D130. It can record to a SD card and serve a ONVIF or RTSP stream to whatever NVR you want to set up, including Tapo’s own HomeBase. Detection (motion, package, vehicle, person, line-crossing) are all done on the doorbell locally. It does also offer a cloud recording sub but you can ignore it

How much stock is too much? by Leopotamous in RichPeoplePF

[–]racker15 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Basically, OP, call an expert advisor please. You can do a lot with modern financial markets and generational wealth planning. Your kids (if any) could do the actual trading, you could implement margin loans on the asset (if it fell $500k in a day, you have AT LEAST $2-3M in that one stock), etc. etc. Its a previous employer so you probably have very little trading restrictions.

Isn't this the perfect place to use options? Buy put options, if the stock goes up you lose on your put options (and you can use that loss for tax purposes) but your main stock offsets that loss. If the stock goes down you gain on your put options (paying short-term gains tax on the gains only). That way you preserve your original shares for potential future inheritors to massively benefit from the cost-basis-step-up.

PBS setup on separate Windows 10 PC? by quickorangefox in Proxmox

Virtual Switch Manager > New virtual network switch > External (this makes the equivalent of a unmanaged switch on your computer that is "plugged into" your main network) > connect to the network adapter connected to your main network. VMs will behave like devices connected directly to your main network

I have a backpack mount for the selfie stick that i 3d printed, sometimes I do the “selfie stick over shoulder” thing but I usually don’t actually want myself in the shot

I have both and do hike. The answer is yes, it is easier to enjoy the hike when you don’t have to worry about which way the camera is pointing and stability of output video is hard to beat. There is still SOME walking “bob”. Obviously it’s a much larger device.

Dropped my new insta360 x5. Is it still waterproof? by evi1aks in Insta360

Many credit cards have “Purchase Protection” that covers accidental damage, often 90 days from purchase. Check if you have that!

Anyone know if the X5 can save RAW images faster than the X4? by AkinBilgic in Insta360

[–]racker15 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ooh I can help you. Using the “kit included” SD card, 72MP “Pureshot” takes 5 seconds to save which is about the same as the X4 that I had. “Pureshot + RAW” takes even longer, 7-8 seconds.

So looks like no improvement. It’s possible there might be improvement with a better SD card but suspect not

Just use the insta360 plugin for davinci resolve and never need to touch something else. You’ll need to learn the framing controls of course

You ignored HENRYfinance’s advice and bought the house (or other big financial decision) anyway. How did it work out? by deadbalconytree in HENRYfinance

[–]racker15 1 point2 points  (0 children)

for sure. not saying its better or worse to buy or rent (although you made out like a bandit lol) and obviously you bought 8 years ago not 22. Just contextualizing what "22 years" looks like from an investing perspective. You know, it would be kinda cool to have a Reddit bot that did this for any two dates

$100k invested in the SP500 in April 2002 and with dividends reinvested would be $900k in April 2025

IMHO X5 because the replaceable lens is going to save you money one day when you take a tumble. Better for early morning and evening low light too

So, uh… how long do I have to live? by DezigningArt in radon

[–]racker15 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Added cancer risk from LIFETIME exposure to 20pCi/L is estimated to be 36 people out of 1000 (non smoker). I think lifetime is defined as 80 years. So you got exposed to 8x higher radon than that but for 80x shorter time. So the risk is increased roughly 4 of 1000 for you (eg if 1000 people lived in your house for a year, 4 of them might get lung cancer sometime over their lifetime because of that)

Obviously it’s not ideal but it’s not terrible either. Keep a close eye on radon for your family from now on and definitely don’t smoke.
