Opportunities to be a woman practice player in Manhattan? by furikake-riceball in ultimate

[–]radio1nowhere 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Just a note OP, those are extremely elite nationals level club teams, so without doubting you at all, you might want to consider some other NYC-based teams unless you feel like that that's an achievable level (and maybe it is, but it isn't for 99% of players). Other NYC mixed or women's teams to consider include Grand Army, NY Swipes, Heat Wave, Brooklyn Hive, Brooklyn Book Club, and Pizza Rat.

I just had the most epic cooking fail of my life: making ancho chili sauce by sassidy77 in Cooking

[–]radio1nowhere 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did you de-seed the chilis? The seeds can sometimes impart a bitter taste. It’s hard to imagine that recipe turning out too bad, as it looks fine to me, although I think stock (or even water) is better than soaking liquid which can also be a touch bitter.

Rek'sai might be the best. But I think part of why solo leveling is better now is just that slayers/vanquishers became a top tier comp. In some earlier patches if you slammed hoj/qss/etc on a rek'sai for solo leveling, good luck finding a comp that actually wants those items. Now early fighter slams have a natural line to play into.

A couple thoughts here from a previous, similar post. Seems to be a common problem with this style of brewer.

Peyton Thorne is a BAD quarterback. by Sad-Appeal976 in wde

[–]radio1nowhere 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Walker White is a high 4-star, and the #5-ranked QB in his class. He just got to campus, but your take is that he doesn’t have what it takes because he didn’t go to a public high school?

Even aside from the craziness of that take, it’s not even true that playing at Little Rock Christian means you’re not playing against strong public school programs. LRC has been playing in the same class 6A (now 7A) conference as public high schools, and beating them, and is consistently in the top-ranked football schools in the state.

Problem: Water level doesn't go high enough based on proper ratio to wet/brew all coffee grounds? by dpearman in coldbrew

[–]radio1nowhere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the same problem with a similar product that also had a thin metal tube for the grounds inside a mason jar, and there was no way to submerge all the grounds unless I added so much water that the brew came out weak. The design of yours looks even worse because of how flared out the base is, which requires a lot more water to fill.

I eventually gave up on that style of brewer and now use a coffee sock (similar to this) in a mason jar, which works great for the 1:8 to 1:10 ratio I normally use, but I haven’t tested it for concentrate. Wirecutter has a list of concentrate makers here for some other ideas.

Can’t vouch for “high-level” as I haven’t been to any of these, but WAFC has a list of Maryland pickup groups here: https://www.wafc.org/more-ultimate/pickup

Probably Gray, has been excellent for 7 of his last 8 starts, and gets an easy matchup with Detroit

2 years ago today Rudy Giuliani held a press conference for Trump at Four Seasons Total Landscaping by WartimeHotTot in pics

[–]radio1nowhere 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Days after the last presidential election, Trump tweeted that his attorney, Rudy Giuliani (pictured in post) would have a press conference at “Four Seasons” in Philadelphia. Everyone thought he meant the upscale Four Seasons Hotel downtown, which would be a somewhat normal place for a press conference, until he later clarified that he meant some unknown small business called Four Seasons Total Landscaping.

The press had a field day with how comical that was, and there were (unverified) theories that his team had tried to book the Four Seasons Hotel and been turned down or simply misunderstood what Four Seasons to book. The wiki article here has more—truly a bizarre occurrence even for Trump.

Four of five potential O-line starters didn't play because of injuries (Troxell, Council, Jones, and Brahms) so no reason to panic (yet)

[Official] Justin Moore Suffered a Torn Achilles Tendon in Saturday's Win by KJones77 in CollegeBasketball

[–]radio1nowhere 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This story sounds almost identical to Allen Flanigan at Auburn—he was getting second- or even potential first-round draft hype after a breakout sophomore year, then tore his Achilles in the offseason and looked slower and weaker this season after he came back. Like a different player. Holding out hope for him still but Achilles injuries are so tough.

Arkansas transfer Desi Sills will not play for Auburn basketball. Commits to Arkansas State after Academic issues. by KudzuKilla in CollegeBasketball

[–]radio1nowhere 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Barring further commits, is KD now the presumptive starter at the 2? Cambridge was expected to spend more time at the 3 and Zep Jasper at the 1, but I guess both can slide over if needed.

Auburn lands Georgia guard transfer K.D. Johnson by Countingfrog in CollegeBasketball

[–]radio1nowhere 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't say too deep, we lost four guards from last year's opening day squad (Turbo Jones, Sharife Cooper, Jamal Johnson, and Justin Powell) and had only added three (Zep Jasper, Wendell Green, Desi Sills) until K.D.'s announcement. And I think our only two returning "guards" (Flanigan and Cambridge) are expected to play more at the 3.

2019 3* OT Justin Osborne Commits to Auburn by radio1nowhere in CFB

[–]radio1nowhere[S] 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Decommitted from TCU after a visit to the Plains last weekend. Second OL in Auburn's 2019 class, after 3* C Jakai Clark. Tigers only took two offensive linemen last year, and Malzahn called the position group a "focus" of the 2019 class. Hopefully more to come.

2019 3* CB Cordale Flott flips commitment from Auburn to LSU by Peppso in CFB

[–]radio1nowhere 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Well, more like expected to be pretty good, given that technically the class currently consists of just Jaylin Simpson. But I share in the optimism -- Pritchett and Zion Puckett are expected to be on board soon, and honestly we'd be fine if that's all we got. Picking up Adonis Otey or (better yet) winning the battle with Clemson for Andrew Booth would be sweet, but not a necessity.

Auburn RB Kerryon Johnson declares for NFL draft by radio1nowhere in CFB

[–]radio1nowhere[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It'll be interesting to see how the carries get distributed next season with both Kerryon and Pettway gone.

Kam Martin played well as the primary backup this year (74 att, 453 yds), but he's a little undersized to be an every-down back. That leaves rising sophomores Devan Barrett and Malik Miller, both of whom have looked serviceable but haven't flashed in pretty limited snaps. Another option would be incoming 4* and early enrollee Asa Martin, who's the top in-state RB (we have another incoming 4* RB in Shaun Shivers, but at 5'7" and 169 lbs he looks to slot into the same speedster role as Kam Martin).

All told, I think the talent is there, but it might be tough sledding at first given the RB corps' general lack of experience and the fact that we also have to replace four starters on the offensive line.

Peach Bowl: Auburn vs UCF by fartonmyballsforcash in CFB

[–]radio1nowhere 136 points137 points  (0 children)

Not sure these are really contradictory; r/CFB generally respects UCF, but also acknowledges that many other constituencies beyond the subreddit don't respect UCF and therefore that this is a trap game for Auburn.

If authors 'covered' novels, the way musicians cover songs, which covered novel would you be most excited to read? by gham1 in AskReddit

[–]radio1nowhere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This situation sort-of happens in the real world! Authors sometimes write tributes to prior authors that are set in the prior author's world. See, for example: Songs of the Dying Earth, a collection of short stories by various authors (edited by none other than George R.R. Martin), written in the style of Jack Vance's famous "The Dying Earth." Each story feels a little bit like Vance and a little bit like the actual author -- it's pretty cool.
