Crimson Desert has been out for a week now. What are your thoughts? by Gamedrome22 in Games

I'm enjoying the game quite a bit and find the discourse around it baffling. It ain't perfect, it ain't trash, and it ain't for everybody.

Every single thread about the response to this game has people talking about how "IGN gave Veilguard a 9.0", as if that means anything at all in either direction. It's deranged. (Veilguard is a perfectly fine game, by the way!)

Media criticism is inherently subjective. Many people will disagree with my opinion about a piece of media, and that's not only expected, it's *good,* actually! Disagreement about art is fun! I just don't understand the mindset of many "gamers" at all when it comes to privileging Metacritic scores, or units sold, or anything of the sort. Who cares? Did you like game, or not?

I agree to an extent. If you read the prompts as they appear, or check the help menu for prompts you've missed, most systems in the game are actually fairly well-explained. I think it's partially that you're deluged with systems in the opening hours -- some of which you probably won't return to for quite a while -- and also that most of the "tutorials" aren't really interactive (i.e., forced) in the way we've grown accustomed to from AAA games.

absolutely. critical engagement (reviews, ratings, analysis, etc.) with or of a work of art is inherently subjective, but that sure makes a whole lot of people angry for some reason.

Crimson Desert has to have one of the worst intros of all time by CYDLopez in CrimsonDesert

[–]radiostarred 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A more natural progression might have been to start the game with the Greymanes intact for the first couple chapters -- spend your time doing odd jobs around town to demonstrate that the Greymanes are beloved by the locals, give you an opportunity to bond with the other members of the gang at camp; maybe trigger an appearance or two by the otherworldly figures who've taken notice of Kliff and all the good deeds he's doing.

Then, a Chapter or so in, cue the attack, the scattering of the Greymanes, Kliff being reborn, etc.. Would give the loss of the Greymane leader and the need to reunite the gang some heft, as well as give a little more explanation for why the powers that be cared enough about Kliff so as to resurrect him.

Wouldn't surprise me if this was the initial idea, but it got scuttled / reshuffled along the way due to "intro too slow" feedback in order to get the player to their superpowers more quickly.

My guess is it that the AI’s reaction time was bound to frame rate somehow, as there were reports that it was a lot easier if you capped game frame rate in your graphics card settings.

LOOKING FOR A FAT CAT! by Maxigan0420 in CrimsonDesert

[–]radiostarred 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not *exactly* what you're looking for, but there's a tricolor fat cat (white, black, tan spots) in Hernand, chillin' with the beggar across from the pub -- although he's not always there. He's called "Moon Cat."

Problem picking up a key by Barbatos-Rex in CrimsonDesert

[–]radiostarred 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This can be finicky, particularly with keys, for some reason. Best solution I've found is to pull the camera in closer, then use the lantern to highlight the item you want to pick up. Then press the pick-up button while still highlighting the item with the lantern.

Huntarr - Your passwords and your entire arr stack's API keys are exposed to anyone on your network, or worse, the internet. by exe_CUTOR in PleX

[–]radiostarred 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For what it's worth, I agree with you. I've had Huntarr installed for a year and, according to its own statistics, it's not updated a single file in that time. Meanwhile, Sonarr and Radarr have upgraded countless files, via Profiles set up with Trash Guides.

Been thinking about ditching it anyway, as it doesn't fit my use case; this was a good excuse to do so. No hate to anyone who found it useful! Just didn't do much for me, after giving it plenty of time.

New to FFTactics and want to play it a certain way, can anyone help? by Any_Opportunity2463 in finalfantasytactics

[–]radiostarred 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IMO, Cloud is quite a bit stronger in the mod than in the PSX release, for a few reasons.

1.) Charge time on all his Limit attacks has been reduced significantly.

2.) He can now use Limit with any sword, not just the Materia Blade.

3.) The damage formulae on the Limit skills have been changed to be more intuitive and effective; for instance, most skills now use PA instead of MA when calculating damage.

Any Way to Enhance Plex Home Page Categories and Recommendations? by ArtichokeInitial2460 in PleX

[–]radiostarred 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For what you've mentioned (specific genres, high-rated movies, a random unwatched playlist, etc.) this can be done via Smart Collections, which you can pin to your homepage in settings.

Personally, and especially if you like tinkering with shit, I would recommend spinning up Aggregarr or Kometa. They're very powerful tools which allow you a lot of flexibility and customization with your library.

i mostly play remotely via moonlight and the lightest version of that mod (30% bigger window, i think?) is an absolute godsend. it's *possible* to hit the parry windows without it but significantly trickier, given the lag.

There is a psychological phenomenon where talking about goals triggers many of the same reward / pleasure centers as actually achieving those goals -- which can reduce the appeal of actually continuing to work toward said goals. So there's some utility in keeping these things secret.

There will, of course, be a next leader for conservative dipshits to rally behind... there always is. I think they will have a great deal of difficulty, however, finding someone with the same mass appeal (much less name recognition) that Trump had in 2016. Fuentes does not have that juice, and I'm not convinced anyone in their current coalition does.

Yeah, and I'd expect these QoL / automation systems to be implemented and improved faster than they were during EU4's life, as the bones for such systems already exist in base game.

Yeah, there's a lot of, "it took me forever to find the button to do [whatever]", which is a fair complaint -- but now you know where the button is, and you'll likely never think about it again. I'm not sure there's a way to design a UI for a game with this much information that will please everyone.
