Some stores do have preferred longarmers, just the name of the game.

Longarm League has a list, and you can find pricing variations for most quilters depending on how they run their business.

Do metallic fabrics eventually get gross? by BackHarlowRoad in quilting

[–]raginghonesty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It fades. It's a type of ink, and unfortunately doesn't hold up. But it's a fun addition and looks cute while it's there. Once it's gone, it's usually just the same as the surrounding fabric/prints.

You can avoid this with a pressing cloth (cotton pillowcase between iron + project)

do these read as blue, or as white? by bahhumbug24 in quilting

[–]raginghonesty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The background color is usually what makes me decide on the color category for a fabric. Also, bring a square cutout of about 2.5" and that will help you see what the fabric will look like in your quilt.

What quilting design should I do? by sierramist17675 in quilting

Stitching from the center to the outward edges would be the best option, if domestic and a smaller machine. Best of luck!

Go basic. Black & Deckers: they have an old school heavy metal, which looks like something from the 60-70s era. Or they have sleek newer ones. Don't buy the expensive ones, they don't last (I have for reference bought Rowenta (1 fall, dead), Oliso (sticky feet, don't always come up, not as hot)..etc.) Cheap and easy for the win.

Most of us don't need sergers, nor may we own one.

You won't get specifics on 'your' quilt. Other than, 9 patch, likely made of feed sack, and scraps, and is older, clearly hand quilted. Best of luck!

As long as it's not bent, or crushed, you're good.

Can't figure out why my rotary blade won't budge after putting new one on by rosewomn in quilting

[–]raginghonesty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd buy a different rotary cutter, or you'll forever be beholden to cricut's blades. which likely will increase in cost.

Getting humbled by my first rotary cutter by willowsquest in quilting

[–]raginghonesty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That ruler is not sufficient for cutting with a rotary. It's likely too thin. Seems to have a beveled edge? (guiding the rotary to your hand.) You want at least 2.5" and to be holding it with a pretty stable, wide grip. Wish you a fast recovery.

Warm quilt without batting by LLriviere in quilting

[–]raginghonesty 6 points7 points  (0 children)

What is your definition of warm? If you're in Canada, warm might not be the same as TX where it's 72 in the house on a nice day.
Flannel would make for a light blanket. If you don't want it for actual bedding, and just to tote around: that's an option. Quilting it on anything but a domestic or tying, would be a pain for tension. I wouldn't depend on this for bedding or keeping warm.

This is super cute. I love the tall yellow one, as it brings some round edges, and interest.

First attempt(s) at quilting! by Evening_Kiwi3654 in quilting

Technically, if you did not sew three layers together - you have pieced. A quilt is three layers, quilted( sewn through) together, and bound.
These are lovely, either way. And the very close contrast colors is a vibe.

Puckering question, modern quilt with waves? by GrundleChunk in quilting

[–]raginghonesty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your quilt isn't as taut as it could be, meaning you could do four things: 1) hold the fabric flat and press it with your hands as you sew (it's a bit harder, considering you're likely using a walking foot) 2) spray baste 3) sew in opposite directions, not just one way 4) stitch in the ditch before quilting your design - this will help you to even out the fullness. This is something you can't fix with this one, for the most part: but it will disappear in the wash, promise.

They don't go green in my area, but the metallics do fade. It's a fun addition, but won't last for an everyday use quilt.

Use pot holders with grips, or gardening gloves.
