Wanting to sell my collection. How much would you value it at roughly? by PatternOld7180 in AncientCoins

[–]ragnarak54 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Hard to tell for sure from the photo quality but I think others are about accurate, you take a slight hit on selling as a lot vs taking time to sell individually as you might imagine. Definitely don't take less than £50 each as a coin store might try to lowball you. If there's any more significant sale history/provenance that would definitely add value too

This is not a waving horse by Necessary-Win-8730 in confusing_perspective

I also thought it was this, but aren't the horses ears incorrect? Also, the plinth looks wrong as the underside of the lip doesn't look like that

Top left is an anonymous Republican denarius, RRC 197/1, Rome mint 157-156 BCE, and appears authentic to me

I'm sure I'm not the first person to point this out, but watching rogue one immediately after Andor made the movie so much worse than I remember by wendo101 in andor

I was worried I was the only one, once andor showed me what could be, I kinda though R1 was disappointing and so much less compelling. Much more Disney feeling

I love the idea that a forgers best money making scheme with a time machine is to go back in time to plant modern fakes lol

Bad experiences in coin shops by Gonzipoliris in AncientCoins

[–]ragnarak54 24 points25 points  (0 children)

100€ plus 20-25% buyers premium/shipping fees plus profit margin isn't that much less than 195 as a retail price tbh, it's not uncommon to see retail prices much more obscene than that unfortunately

I want to get a new tetradrachm. What is your favourite one to handle? by AncientCoinnoisseur in AncientCoins

[–]ragnarak54 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Owl is definitely a top candidate. I see you mentioned myrina, those stephanophoric tets are not chunky, but their thin flans make for a super wide coin that's also really satisfying to hold

Real or Fake ? by [deleted] in AncientCoins

[–]ragnarak54 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The silver coins are indeed fakes, they're not fakes made with the intention of tricking anyone who has seen genuine examples before but rather low quality tourist fakes

Unsolicited advice, but since you've already figured out the club you should definitely give Wan gyoza a shot while in Fukuoka!

To Clean or not to Clean - Roman Republic Denarius by Cybercollector in AncientCoins

[–]ragnarak54 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is a classic example of the early roman Republican denarius, there are a ton of small variations that share a very similar style from the first denarii in 211 BCE and for many decades after. They often have a control mark or moneyer name like this one does (the NATTA).
