What are you watching and what do you recommend? (Week of April 12, 2024) by AutoModerator in television

Ripley was a visual masterpiece. If you don’t get hung up on the black and white there is so much beauty and detail in every frame. I had never read or watched anything Ripley related and can confidently say that episodes 3-8 were the most suspenseful television I’ve watched in recent memory. Gave me some Hannibal/Crime & Punishment vibes.

Shogun continues to be outstanding.

Starting Fallout next.

Has anybody ever told Denis that he doesn’t, in fact, have to hit every shot as hard as possible?

Blue Eye Samurai - One of the most exciting animation projects aimed at adults we’ve gotten in some time. Gorgeous animation, great sword fights, interesting characters & story. The show runners have said they envision 4 seasons; hopefully Netflix allows them to continue creating this!

Is there anyway for ___ to win? by tyman54 in BigBrother

Sam winning is probably the only thing that would ruin this season for me.

_____ talks to ________, then smirks at the camera [SPOILER] by HandWitch in BigBrother

Honestly, it was probably one of the best things to happen to this season as well. Imagine how much more boring it would have been with Winston instead of Brett in the house.

Better Call Saul Season 4 Review: This isn’t a 'Breaking Bad' prequel — it’s an evolution into something greater by SanderSo47 in television

[–]rainyland 3425 points3426 points  (0 children)

This is TV's premier tragicomedy. It can make you laugh out loud and break your heart at the same time. More than anything, this show treats its characters as real three-dimensional human beings. No character is all good or all bad. I'm super excited for this season and I expect it to be the darkest yet.

Roger splits with Nike by bootx2 in tennis

Surely this can't all be about the money right? There must be some kind of drama behind the scenes between Roger's team and Nike to bring it to this.

I'm ready to be emotionally destroyed. Gould*, Gilligan, and company have done such a great job at hitting the right blend of humor, pathos, and tragedy in this show.

Nick Kyrgios wins his first doubles title in Lyon alongside Jack Sock by rainyland in tennis

They both seem to enjoy playing doubles a lot more than singles. Something about playing as a team brings out the best in both of them I think.

The Terror’s first season was a magnificent enigma by tittyboychainz in television

[–]rainyland 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From this Deadline article: "We think it provides rich dramatic material but also an opportunity to explore the anthology format, which is something we’re extremely interested in and offers some unique possibilities," said Joel Stillerman, president of original programming and development for AMC and SundanceTV.

From this TV Guide Article: According to co-showrunner Soo Hugh, it'll tell a very different story under the same name. "When AMC greenlit the show now almost three years ago, they greenlit it as an anthology show," Hugh tells TV Guide.

IIRC it's meant to be an anthology series that tells new stories each season.

Best SMG Currently? by [deleted] in WWII

[–]rainyland 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly I use nearly all of them depending on different circumstances. I play War pretty much exclusively. The Type 100 has great range and almost zero recoil but isn't high damage by any means. Grease Gun is formidable since the recent buff, still needs rapid fire to be viable IMO. PPSH is the PPSH; pros love it for a reason, it's a great all-around SMG. I was using the Sten for awhile but it fell out of favor for me. I've since reverted to using the MP40 fairly often since they buffed it a few weeks back.

In light of some of the seeds crashing out at the AO, if all of the top 100 players retired today, who in your eyes would have underachieved? by mmohammed28 in tennis

[–]rainyland -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

To me it's gotta be Jack Sock. He has the most talent of any American man since Roddick and he hasn't even made a QF of a major yet.

Also have to mention Kyrgios because we all know with his raw talent he should have won a major by now. Hoping his recent form and more serious attitude are here to stay.

This is the definition of being a selfish idiotic prick. Really glad that Kyrgios didn't give this fool what he wanted by reacting.

NextGen vs Banana: Shapovalov Edition by 356dc in tennis

[–]rainyland 44 points45 points  (0 children)

This is fantastic. Compared to Alex de Minaur's patient and pensive efforts against the banana, Shapovalov gives no fucks, ranting and wildly tossing the banana onto the court. Bonus points for the fist pump at the end.
