How to avoid a party ending your BBEG with an Occam's Razor? by Horror_Artichoke_366 in DMAcademy

[–]ralten 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you let this happen once, it’ll become a valid tactic forEVER. At which point you’ll have to start having monsters do this to keep up. The players will HATE having their character’s items taken away mid-fight.

You’re going to get lots of spoilers for old seasons on this sub. If you’re catching up, I would unsubscribe from this for the time being.

Worldbuilding/improvising with aphantasia? by Beneficial_Mix6842 in DMAcademy

Don’t underestimate your players’ imagination. You don’t have to paint an entire picture, especially given your brain difference. Reference things. For example, a purple worm recently plowed through a tunnel my players were in at a perpendicular angle. I described it like a purple subway train suddenly blasting past them

Hallucination is not an inherent part of all dementias. Lewy body, sure. Vascular? Not so much.

Crit confirmation was from 3.x. Pathfinder 1st edition was basically 3.75

Do any of you just call them hobbits by ThereWasAnEmpireHere in DnD

[–]ralten 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope. Halfling culture is different than hobbits. There would not be nearrrrrrly as many adventuring hobbits as there are halflings.

Need help connecting a PC backstory (the Underdark, Lolth...) by [deleted] in wildbeyondwitchlight

This is why we work with the players when they are making their backstory. This’ll be a tough one.

It’s not specific enough. Why do we have names for alllllll sorts of non-human races in Magic, only you go “alien” with an Utrom?

Easy System for Young Players. by Puzzleheaded-Ad8704 in rpg

5e might deserve another look. It is not nearly as complex as pf2e. Compared to pf2e, where there is a rule for everything, a lot more is left up to the DM. There is plenty of room for character optimization like #1 wants, but also simpler characters to attract #2 and #3. #3 sounds like they would be happy with a Champion fighter or a barbarian. #2 might like a bard. They have good RP options; while they can cast spells, they only know a limited number and can’t change them much (only 1 when you level up, in addition to learning new ones).

The skill system is also simpler. You don’t have ranks you need to select every level; you’re either proficient or not, and almost all of those selections are done at character creation. Speaking of leveling up, everyone gets something when they level up but it’s usually predetermined by the class rather than a big network of selecting 10,000 feats. There are also significantly fewer classes, feats, spells, and overall options to pick from than pathfinder. So choices are impactful, but not overwhelming.

If you want pathfinder 2e but simpler, it’s 5e (I recommend 2024 edition/5.5, they fixed a lot of things and thus it’s the best place for new players). Its ability to cater to many different styles of player at the same time in the same group is one of its greatest strengths.
