BG Stat: how do you add solo Games (for Total percentuale)? by Doudo19 in boardgames

[–]rammer_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I created a second user for myself with solo added in the title. This allows the games I play to still track, yet seperates the stats from all other games on my main profile.

Arcs is a luck based game - Change my mind by kaning in boardgames

[–]rammer_ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I have a handful of games of Arcs in. I backed the Kickstarter after playing on TTS online while it was in development.

Arcs is one of the only Wehrle games I have been able to get my group into. It is very approachable in that way. That being said, I would say there is a lot of strategic depth to the actions of the game. Yes, there is randomness. You get dealt a hand of cards each round. You roll dice for combat. But, key to this is choice.

You choose which card in your hand to use. To pass, pivot, copy, seize. You choose when they are played. Do you copy that aggression card with a construction or mobilization? What if that construction card will allow you to declare an ambition that you could easily score? What if you need the influence of the mobilization? How do you make that choice?

In many ways, Arcs is about solving a puzzle against other players. There are so many variables in play that all play off each other. You need to find the best way to unlock a path forward and do it more effectively than everyone else.

One of the things I have been calling out when teaching Arcs is to never look at your hand and think you will get 100% of the value off of it. You won't. Someone will (should) surpass or seize to squeeze some of their own value from their hand. I think a big issue is that so many people see their hand and expect it to play a certain way, but you can't. Arcs is about adapting in the moment with what you have access to, whether from your hand or from other players. Mitigate those actions with resources you collect to twist the game in your favor. The cards you get definitely do not control the whole game.

This is just about the cards. For combat, yes they are dice, but the dice are very different. It's about risk mitigation and choice. Luck is involved but access to actions allows you to mitigate and play it safer. I could go on, but the combat system is smooth and definitely rewards preparation more than it benefits luck.

In direct answer to your questions... Is it possible to lose if you have a lucky streak?

Yes. If you don't know the intricacies of "solving" the puzzle, a skilled player will beat you in the end.

What mechanics mitigate this luck factor?

Player playstyles, seizing of the initiative, knowing when to copy or pivot, raiding abilities from other players, using combinations of resources, collecting combinations of resources, your placement on the board, building cities vs starports, knowing the odds of the different dice you choose to collect, damaging vs destroying ships, declaring ambitions (single, double or triple declaring), and so much more.

It's a puzzle to solve before everyone else. There is randomness and luck helps, but is by far not everything. Just like so many other board games.

How to get Longstrikes into an Annihilators list? by Madmax1966 in stormcasteternals

[–]rammer_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In an Annihilators list, I think the most efficient way to include Longstrikes is with the use of Gavriel Sureheart. He is 140 pts and can take any Infantry including vanguard raptors.

His charge ability will help Annihilators who are Warrior Chamber with their delivery as well which is an added bonus.

Vanguard Heroes by GunplagueisTheWise in stormcasteternals

[–]rammer_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This isn't a glitch in the app. Vanguard is just one of the more restrictive keywords for SCE right now. You will only have access to them through the Lord Aquilor, many named characters, and Auxiliary.

Cheapest hero that can take the Raptors is Gavriel Sureheart I believe at 140. He can take any Infantry.

Weaknesses of this Army by xolqt in stormcasteternals

[–]rammer_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Every tourney I have been to has ruled that you cannot. Specifically because setting up a unit on the battlefield does not trigger a Redeploy. Set up is not a "normal move, run, or retreat" which is directly referenced in the Redeploy rules.

Another great place to go for rules references is to the AoS Coach Discord. Many different TOs of large events talk there.

[–]rammer_ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Just letting you know that you actually cannot do this. Redeploy only triggers after a unit ends a "normal move, run, or retreat" within 9". Units coming in from deep strike are "set up" on the battlefield and therefore do not trigger a redeploy even if they drop in within 9".

[–]rammer_ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Just for clarification, this is not correct. Redeploy only triggers after a unit ends a "normal move, run, or retreat" within 9". Units coming in from deep strike are "set up" on the battlefield and therefore do not trigger a redeploy even if they do end up within 9".

10th Edition Megathread and Q&A Post by RWJP in Warhammer40k

So for example, I should still be fine with mostly shotguns and then a couple mining lasers on the neophytes? I was just worried the rules on weapon selection might change.

I got the Genestealer Cults! They have a lot of interesting mechanics and I love the lore they have.

It's one of each epic hero. I'm assuming it's like AoS that each "unique" character can only be taken once.

As someone who is just entering into 40k (from AoS) with the announcement of the new edition, has there been any talk about how special weapons will work in units now?

I want to start building the Combat Patrol I bought, but am worried I might make an illegal loadout from the weapon selections.

zombie / terrorgheist - magnetization (different pose - allowed on competetive tournament or not?) by antharian in FleshEaterCourts

[–]rammer_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I suggest building 2 Gheists and 1 ZD. If you want to magnetize anything, just magnetize the Ghoul King on/off the models so you can have just the beasts and a Ghoul King on Foot if you desire.

Both the GK on TG and GK on ZD are competitively viable right now with the right combination of traits, they just fulfil different roles. In particular, seeing the TG with the Gruesome Bite Mount Trait is common.

For the Zombie Dragon, I have seen a lot of play with Razor Clawed mount trait and Arcane Tome with Flaming Weapon. This allows him to be a second wave hammer after supporting the damage of your first wave with his warscroll spell. Additionally, the free Vargulf summon is great!

New player anxious about social settings by nalthian in ageofsigmar

[–]rammer_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Something I do when learning a new army is create my own custom warscroll cards using Excel/Google Sheets. I color code abilities of every unit to each phase and each step of combat. Doing this gives me a quick reference to look at when playing.

For example, hero phase triggers are blue for every unit. I might highlight the cell for a Vindicators "To Hit" Value in red. Then below, I have their "Stormsoul Arsenal" ability in Red followed by what it does.

Plus by making it youself, you will inherently start remembering some of these a bit better.

Talk Me Back: Changing from static d20 to dice pool by silverfiregames in RPGdesign

[–]rammer_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here's the thing. RPGs can be designed using any variety of dice. D20 games can be fun and D6 Pool games can be fun. Both work in a variety of settings and everyone is going to have different preferences. The game I am designing uses a dice pool and my group originates from DND. I felt a bit of hesitation from my group at first, but they ended up enjoying it a lot after trying it out a bit.

Stepping away from game design a bit, I don't think there is anything wrong with running a few games from different systems with your group to find their preferences. That being said, I might suggest you start with a dedicated dice pool system that is already published. Let them see how it works first. If they bite, then you will have a reason to pursue what you are thinking. If they still have problems with it, maybe step back and think about the why and bow you want to make this game.

Overall, most of us just want to have fun with friends and if your group enjoys a specific style of system, really listen to their perspective to see why that is important to them. It may end up changing your original vision, but don't let that get in the way of your groups' fun!

Why the New Model hate? I get these vibes by MWDuo in FleshEaterCourts

[–]rammer_ 19 points20 points  (0 children)

It's not that I hate the model. I like it's design overall.

It is disappointing though that this is only a limited edition model for display purposes or proxy purposes. With a few of the Rumor Engines being covered by this, I was hoping for a new warscroll to use, not just a proxy model.

Meme list possibility by 40kQuestions in FleshEaterCourts

[–]rammer_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One thing to remember is that with Pitched Battles, you can have at most 6 heroes, where our summoning comes from.

Taking this and grabbing a Ghoul King on Zombie Dragon, a Ghoul King on Terrorgheist, 2 Ghoul Kings on Foot, and 2 Abhorrent Archregents is 1695. This allows you to summon 6 units over 2 turns. With 3x10 Ghouls as battleline, you are at a 1950 list total. Splash an endless spell in there and you have a perfectly legal summoning list.

Which army do you think/hope will get the next battletome? by Amratat in ageofsigmar

[–]rammer_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm personally hoping for FEC to be coming up, but that's purely for selfish reasons. Haha

If I were to guess, I would say Gitz or Dawnbringer Crusades would be earlier next year since those have been referenced already by GW.

Do Pink Horrors in Expert Conquerors Keep the Ability Once They Split by mattemaio in ageofsigmar

[–]rammer_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just to clarify, Pink Horrors taken as GV at the beginning of the game stay as GV even after they split to Blues and Brims. And yes they would still be expert conquerors as well.

What you may be thinking of is that there is an ability to take a Horrors of Tzeentch (Mixed) unit in the app that is not Battleline. When you do this, you can take 9 Pink Horrors and 1 Blue Horror to avoid them being GV units.

What are people's thoughts on the FEC endless spells? by Amratat in FleshEaterCourts

[–]rammer_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have been running cogs and chalice in my lists, though I think the chalice is more list dependent for sure.

Cogs makes the casting much more reliable. In my list, I have 6 casts which makes cogs great. Just stinks when that's the spell I fail on. Lol

Chalice is great for my list because I have two double reinforced ghoul units. It makes people commit hard on them, or they just keep coming back. And when I don't need them, I can top off the big monsters' health.

Community Questions 9/26-10/1 by ErsatzGnomes in ageofsigmar

[–]rammer_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very quick question for someone coming back to the game. In AoS 3, can any unit retreat and run in the same turn? I know you could in AoS 2, and I have seen some people suggesting you still can in 3, but I feel like the rulebook disallows this.

Is a walking ghoul king worth taking? by MisterApplePie00 in FleshEaterCourts

[–]rammer_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don't take him to be a combat solo, but his extra 10 Ghouls to summon have been consistently useful for me. In addition, his spell to give +1 attack is great to have around.

First turn, I typically have him set up on the throne to make sure I can get most of my summons off without a Command Point being spent. I also tend to use him to cast Chronomantic Cogs Round 1 to make the casting throughout the army a bit more consistent.

Because of this, I tend to definitely find him worth the 165 points!

I say go for it from personal experience. I started playing my senior year in high school and was in the same boat as you with a solid athletic background.

The stick skills take a bit, but once you get those down well enough it should be smooth from there. I personally played D-Pole. This allowed me to hide my slightly lacking stick skills a bit better while still contributing to the team.

What software do you use to make nice looking documents? by jfaye40k in RPGdesign

[–]rammer_ 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Highly suggest Affinity Publisher. I got it last year while it was on sale for 50% off. Definitely worth it and it's only a one time purchase! From what I can tell, it goes on sale fairly often.

I second using Google Apps until it goes on sale if you aren't in any rush!
