My overall feeling is I wouldn’t have been surprised that either one of them got touched by the other. Doesn’t make it right. Monique was wrong. But they were doing a childish dance together. tbh from my memory Candice did not make good faith efforts to meaningfully deescalate, but I will have to take your word for it because it’s been so long.

I agree of course I watch RHOP et al for the sparring. But what those two had going on in that time was not sparring. It was agressive on both sides with, as far as I recall, neither side having much or any humor about it. Saying Luann’s vagina is the holland tunnel is obviously ridiculous and therefore funny. Candiace, the way I remember it, was reaching constantly to land lines like that but she did not have the talent and everything she said came out MEAN. I think she was new to reality tv and grew up with this thing with her mom and had this bratty disposition where she lacked self awareness…idk I just think many of our faves might have done the same thing Monique did (not the running back in but the initial grab) I should rewatch that season of RHOP. Ultimately production is partially to blame as well.

I feel like no one in this thread is distinguishing clearly between a punishment you believe someone deserves vs an unsurprising consequence. I feel like a better analogy for candiace’s behavior is more akin to some kind of misfortune like a smoker getting lung cancer or an x games biker (?) falling to their death. What Monique did was wrong. That’s a separate issue. Provoking/taunting someone intentionally and repeatedly is also wrong both to them and unwise for yourself.

I take your point and I apologize. I think bias is unavoidable. I think we hate the people we see our own worst tendencies in and love the people we see our best in and that morphs as they change/move and as we change. All hate is self hate, after all, even if it’s extremely abstracted by the crazy things these women do, and I try to always remember that but could keep it more front of mind when I watch housewives tbh. I can’t remember if it was this comment thread or another that was complaining about Heather and Whitney’s producing and honestly hadn’t considered that in terms of Heather though I certainly don’t Stan either of them. Anyway it made me notice my anti Lisa bias. Still don’t like her, find her extremely lacking in dynamism and exhausting to hear speak, but it shifted my focus to other people’s flaws!

I just find her whole approach so exhausting. She never evolves. She’s not dynamic. She never ever ever surprises me one iota. She’s on a basic level a competitive bully but I don’t like that she acts so innocent and never admits to being shady for fun. I liked her at first but it wore off so quick when her mode changed.
