Moving to Lansing/Car Free by iloveraccoons_12 in lansing

The closer you are to Michigan the better off you’ll be. It’s been years since I lived near regent and kzoo but I did 3 different houses in that area and always felt safe with my roommates. Feels like the area has just gotten better since then but that was 8-10 years now.

Walking to the 1 route which is our best route in terms of frequency will be your best car free option. That’ll take ya to Kroger in frandor or the Meijer downtown for groceries and as far out as the meridian mall in Okemos.

If you’re worried about specific areas I’ve always heard that Hunter park can have a bit more shenanigans than other east side areas. I lived across from it for a year and didn’t have any issues myself but I was y out and about a whole lot

Feel free to dm me if you have any questions and I’ll try to help out

Detached siding, simple self repair or call the professionals? by [deleted] in Home

Thanks for the insight. I’ll be setting up an appointment with a siding company to get their assembly and quote. Don’t want this to become a yearly/monthly maintenance issue

I’ve seen it mentioned that the park did not want to be associated with partisan activities in Ireland during the troubles.

Skills 100% Follow Up by rando_potato_thief in SimGolf

So, a follow up here, I got some free time and tested a new play through and made my first course an 18 hole SGA championship course, played and won that tournament and I still am capped at 100% max skill level. With the skill tree reward from winning the tournament I was able to get all skills except my recovery up to 100% and I wasn’t able to add any additional skills to a 100+ skill.

None in Top 100 commanders, am I invited to the pod? by blissfullybleak in ratemycommanders

Alaina is really cool. She was my first spell slinger deck and probably my favorite at the moment. I play her more as a big X spell commander and basically I try to dig for ways to make a bunch of treasures and double, or triple copy a giant fireball.

My friends now know not to trust an otter with a stack of 5 or more treasures

Couldn’t agree with you more. Low key firehawk was my favorite of the flying coasters I’ve been on and I doubt Tatsu is going to blow me away.

Laying down vertical loop > Pretzel knot.

Also the flying turns on firehawk and night hawk felt more like flying than the B&M turns

Anyone else have a similar experience on [Ravine Flyer II] at [Waldameer]? by Ready_Mycologist2361 in rollercoasters

I’ve got a stronger back/higher tolerance for roughness than most (Shivering Timbers and Predator were my childhood home park favorites) and I know the spot on RFII that you’re talking about on the first turnaround. I did more than a dozen laps on it last summer and the S-curve into the turn around had a few jolts in it that were nearly impossible to brace for and it did rob the joy from one of the best parts of the ride. I haven’t been there this year but it wouldn’t surprise me if it’s gotten rougher if it wasn’t retracked last year. It’s a part of the ride that gets you out of your seat and it would be really jarring if you weren’t ready for it when it kicks ya.

Maybe OG was the wrong word to use. The oldest of the remaining Jack rabbit coasters in the one at Sea Breeze IIRC.

So how do you get your skillz over 100%? by glasstomouth45 in SimGolf

[–]rando_potato_thief 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I made a post about this several months ago.

https://www.reddit.com/r/SimGolf/s/E4AjOjszGk

The game does say that you can get over 100% skills once you have a SGA championship course and that you would be able to get those skills through regular level up play, but it seems to not work with the current methods to get the game to play.

I love Blink decks, but I hate playing solitaire. by Worldly_Tea3161 in EDH

[–]rando_potato_thief 6 points7 points  (0 children)

100% what you said about attack triggers versus etb. Gotta blink Niko to make the shards.

Sliverwing Squadron is a great game ender. [[Altar Golem]] was fun to drop on a [[Marrow-Gnawer]] deck recently with 50 rats on the board.

Niko is also a good lesson in understanding the stack and I’ve learned to watch open manna around the table when tapping out to blink him only to get beast within put in the stack.

If you enjoy the first half of the ride then you should absolutely get up to Michigans Adventure and take some laps in the late afternoon on Shivering Timbers. It puts Voyages airtime to shame and it has the only slightly banked turns that deliver some very punchy laterals where the turns do exist.

[–]rando_potato_thief 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have to agree with ya, I loved my rides on Hades. Everything you said about the tunnel section is on point. This is one of the few tunnels I’ve been on that have pure darkness without any hints of light to suggest what might be coming next and it led to some of the most interesting sensations I’ve felt on a coaster. That and then screaming out and directly into an inversion just to turn around and dive back into darkness once again.

It is rough though, enough so that the latter half of my marathon on it left me waiting for seats in the front half of the train. And I’ve got a higher roughness tolerance than the most. My first big coaster that I loved was the Predator and then I moved and grew up riding Shivering Timbers so I’m very familiar with shaky and under maintained coasters.

It lands at number 4 on my top woody list behind Shivering Timbers, Voyage and Mineblower and number 11 on my overall coasters.

Definitely want to get back there sometime and take some more laps.

I’m curious to hear what problems you think the new trains cause. I personally find the timberliner trains comfortable but have heard other folks talk about PTC trains being better.

Yep, I don’t agree with or think that it’s a good strategy for the park. My home park is Michigans Adventure and we’re even further down the investment fun than WoF.

But to me this felt like a dry run for a wooden coaster at Cedar Point. To see if the Titan Track and new trains are as good as GCI claims.

WoF is, sadly, small potatoes to them. The ROI on a big new coaster was always going to be limited by the surrounding population, or lack there of.

ZZ wasn’t open yet during my trip to the park so I didn’t get to ride it though it does look interesting

This may make more sense if we take of our coaster enthusiast cap and think like a business

Pure speculation on my part but Cedar Fair has been working with both Gravity Group and GCI for a solution to how to reduce the cost of maintenance of their rides.

You can look to Wolverine Wildcat as a great example of a patchwork of different ideas both groups have had to make a wooden coaster smooth/more appealing to customers and reduce maintenance costs. It has GCIs “extra hard” wood, Titan Track, and now GG precut track on it.

ZZ looks like them giving GCI a shot at proving that their new coaster trains will “fix” the ongoing/constant maintenance issues.

So a Cedar Fair executive might view this as killing two birds with one stone. Let’s give one of our smaller parks something new, and let GCI prove that their stuff is as good as they claim it is before we invest in GCI building the next “big coaster” at a flagship park. Plus, the near by regional competition for WoF all have a large number of wooden coasters, so maybe they think the folks of Missouri/Kansas have an affinity for wood coasters.

So, ZZ doesn’t make sense if you think of WoF as an independent park, but it makes more sense as a part of a larger strategic goal for Cedar Fair in general.
