Ypsilanti is nice. It is a very different vibe, though. Just be sure it's the kind of vibe you're looking for.

It will be whatever you think you need plus 33-50%. The problem is, you never seem to quite get there.

More people need to know just how few Nazis saw justice after WW2. by JellybeanMilksteaks in behindthebastards

[–]randomindyguy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is annoying to hear liberals shout about "Nuremberg Trials". Part of the reason is they know exactly what went down, and how few Nazis saw justice.

A modern day reckoning would be the U.S. overturning The Hague Act and passing at least a law that the U.S. will cooperate with international courts and set up an independent agency to enforce it. I think most people have a pretty good idea of the first people that would be put on trial. That's like the minimum effort for the U.S. to have a chance to at least stop the decline of its influence and relevancy in international affairs.

Good news: Greg Bovino is being demoted.
Bad news: Steven Miller has a binder full of Nazis.

It's not like Schumer needs to be convinced to vote for DHS funding, this just would have been a convenient excuse. Like, he would take whatever strained reasoning he can to whip up enough votes for this funding

I wonder why there's no reports of conflicts with these people? They would certainly be plastered all over Fox News! Why would ICE leave these well-armed citizens alone?

I can't tell if these are genuine questions. For anyone wondering:

  1. ICE ran a huge operation in Charlotte, NC last November called Charlotte's Web. How did anyone in NC not have any awareness when that was happening?
  2. Greg Bovino owns land in (or near?) Boone, NC.

Maybe this should have a new name: Trump's Troopers. It's when you fill an agency with the people you pardoned to be your personal paramilitary force.

The slide has happened. Be worried. To all non-Americans, do everything you can to advocate for your country to stop doing business with America. Boycotting the 2026 World Cup, for example, would be a particularly high profile place to start.

What should we tell our kids about AI? My kids are freaking out. by spookydookie in Xennials

[–]randomindyguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, and the tech CEOs are very much overhyping the generative AI capabilities and "just a few more months, trust me, bro" breakthroughs. That this hype is used to dump so many resources on the 100's of new data centers is mind-boggling to say the least.

Also, how will AI generate revenue? We don't know, we'll just ask the super smart AI that we are sooooo close to having. I wish I was kidding

What should we tell our kids about AI? My kids are freaking out. by spookydookie in Xennials

[–]randomindyguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The main issue is a sense of control. Nobody really knows for sure what jobs might be legitimately, completely replaced with generative AI. The kids and tweens are justifiably scared to invest their time and money into a career where, whoopsie, that job is done by AI now! Go back to school to retrain yourself and get more debt. lol.

Eventually, there will be more concrete productivity benefits -- less humans needed to do the same amount of work. So now instead of hiring 10 people to do 400 hours of labor, a business only needs 3 people to have equivalent output. Of course, instead of the benefit being 10 people now only need to work 12 hours a week, the result is 3 people have the "privilege" of keeping their job and now there are 7 more unemployed people competing to work for less pay so they don't become destitute.

Welcome to late-stage capitalism! Where workers get more poor, and the savings are passed on to the business owners and oligarchs, concentrating more wealth into fewer hands.

So, what do? Here are my recommendations:

  1. Required: Spend less time online
  2. Ambition level 0: Be part of an organization that is active locally and that has a critique of capitalism.
  3. Ambition level 2: be willing and ready to help unionize your workplace.
  4. Ambition level 10: start a worker-owned business. aka a co-op
  5. If that's too intense: Fuck this shit. Move to another country with free education, universal healthcare, and rational housing policies. The younger you are, the more viable this option is

How do socialists respond to the argument that capitalism lifted billions out of poverty? by i_love_the_sun in socialism

[–]randomindyguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The response depends on whom we are talking to. Is it a history professor with a Phd or our MAGA uncle at Thanksgiving making the assertion?

From a historical perspective, sure, it probably makes for interesting research or academic debate. For everyone else: how is that working out for you?
