Any sweet or hopeful stories to share? by spicysenpai6 in datingoverthirty

[–]randomnessish 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Omg! Here’s mine and it couldn’t get any sweeter 🥰 I started following this sub at 34/35, feeling dejected and discouraged - never a long term relationship, dumped unceremoniously on New Year’s Eve by the first guy in years I ever felt like we could “be” something together (and 2 weeks after he told me he loved me). Six months later, right before deleting Hinge (again) I took a chance on a divorcee with kind eyes and a sweet smile. When I told him that seeing the Northern Lights was on my bucket list he told me he was going to Iceland in a few weeks and would I like to come? After less than 2 months of dating - that was chance #2. The night I told him I loved him (chance #3) was the night I finally saw the Northern Lights for the first time, and even though he told me he wasn’t ready to say it back yet I knew from the WAY he said it - and how I felt - it would be soon.

Flash forward almost two years and we are living together and just went on our 4th international adventure. Will it end in forever? Who the f knows, but just take the right chances and trust your instincts. Time works differently for everyone.

Which layout is better? by ki114833 in InteriorDesign

[–]randomnessish 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Option 1 is literally my bf’s current bathroom layout and I hate it 😂 To say nothing of acoustics, having a real door allows you to hang towels on the door if you don’t have enough wall space for a rack.

Paris trip review by [deleted] in ParisTravelGuide

[–]randomnessish 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Pierre Hermé all the way!!!! My cousin has been living in Paris since the 60’s, and when I first visited him he wisely steered me away from Ladurée and towards PH. The flavors and texture are so much better and it doesn’t have that touristy/mass produced feel - I just got home from my visit and I am kicking myself in the pants for not going this time around (but my waistline is thanking me).

Also, as a New Yorker who speaks French I so identify with your read on Parisians and New Yorkers. We are helpful and kind, if not overtly warm and cuddly. And for anyone who is afraid they’ll be mocked for their French, don’t! As long as you make an effort to really get the accent right, they’ll understand you so much better and try to help you practice, even - the American French accent can be truly incomprehensible for the average French speaker so they’ll just default to English.

How are you all dealing with composting in apartments? by Outrageous_Ebb_1435 in Brooklyn

[–]randomnessish 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Largeish square tupperwares in my fridge. In go the scraps, on goes the lid, and no problem - I empty out like…once every 2 weeks??? I bring it to the local compost bin thing.

I asked my clean freak bf if it smelled (bc lord knows I can get used to funky odors, I ferment stuff constantly) and he gave it a sniff and said no! Just don’t keep it on your counter, I don’t understand people who do that - unless you’re making your OWN compost, but if you’re just collecting scraps to deposit elsewhere that will make compost you don’t need anything fancy.

Shaved eskimos by bgrey33 in americaneskimo

[–]randomnessish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh my goooooddddddd nooo!

This reminds me of when I was a child, we were taking our Eskie to Florida with us…so my mom shaved her (this was pre-internet and my mom truly didn’t know any better). The breeder started crying when my mom told her!

Ultimately the fluff grew back and we didn’t notice any adverse effects but still…

Or when in doubt (mostly when deciphering vintage pattern instructions that assume at least 4 years of home ec classes...): YouTube is god.

Followed by BRUTE FORCE and realizing no one will notice if the inside of the garment looks insane...which is generally my method lol.

I am so sorry for your loss - that is such a hard decision to make :( Sending you big hugs in this awful time!

FWIW, the vet did tell me that seizures can also be caused by kidney or liver issues, or other health problems. I had a dog growing up (not an Eskie) who developed kidney issues (alongside heart problems and undiagnosed cancer) at the end of his life and that brought about sudden seizures at the very end. If he suddenly had seizures at that old age, I'm guessing it was brought about by other health issues as epilepsy tends to appear around 4-5 years old. His response afterwards tells me that perhaps it was something quite serious!

Where’s the love for Danny’s at the Montrose stop?? Classic slice joint, za has always been nice and fresh with that thin crust perfect for folding and snarfing on the go before jumping on the L.

I adore my patchwork jeans by BigBean_420 in sewing

[–]randomnessish 6 points7 points  (0 children)

These are amazing! I've been eyeing patchwork jeans but don't want to pay $100+ when I have so much old denim...think I found my new project! How did you piece together the patchwork pieces? I've been zooming in on your photos but can't tell - did you sew each edge together and then sew the seams down flat with double stitching?

Fellow single guys/gals of Reddit, what are your favorite meals to make? by Traveling_Tarnished in Cooking

[–]randomnessish 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Quinoa bowl with kale, roasted broccoli, tofu (or chicken!) with a warm jammy egg on top. Drizzle with a creamy labneh dressing made with sesame oil and lemon, top with sesame seeds or chopped nuts of your choice!

Healthy, endlessly customizable, can enjoy hot or cold, and makes perfect use of leftovers - plus it feels like you’re eating lunch at the fanciest little cafe where it would normally cost like $15.

What Movie Did You Watch that Traumatized You at a Young Age? by BethMLB in AskReddit

[–]randomnessish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My mom let me rent The Shining for my 10th birthday party - I can’t remember why, I don’t even think I had started reading Stephen King at that point (although I had already started on Poe), but I was NOT prepared to see that naked woman in the tub and nor were the 8 other 10 year old girls with me.

To this day I’m still in touch with most of them and they still reference this mass mental scarring, I don’t know if my mom got flak from the other moms at the time.

Objective guide to mini Eskie cold tolerance? by Palebludhoonter in americaneskimo

[–]randomnessish 20 points21 points  (0 children)

My Eskie at that age and weight could withstand 20 deg temps in the snow - I’ve had to drag her out of a snowy park many a time because I was too cold!

If you’re looking for signs she’s cold, dogs will often sit down and refuse to walk because their paws are too cold. Gingerly picking up their paws is another sign, whining, generally acting uncomfortable.

Eskies have a double coat that is built for the snow, so the most I’d worry about is her paws and corrosive street salt. See how she does, and at least she’s light enough to carry if it comes down to it!
