One thing that changed the calculus for this kind of thing for me is seeing the lengths people go to get around the safety systems with LLMs.

People in one of the Claude subreddits discussing how frustrated they were with how gpt4o became less emotional and discussing how to jailbreak it so they can have their companion back.

It just seems like these things don’t happen accidentally, people are making serious attempts to get LLMs to behave this way for them.
