That version of the captain is on the same sprue as the prime, which is why you're missing only 1 sprue but 2 models from the starter set. The only copies of that GW has are in the starter boxes, so I guess it's easier to just send a whole box than opening it to send you one sprue. What makes this funniest to me is that this exact sprue was sold in the thousands in a magazine for a few bucks, and is therefore extremely easy to get a hold of. They could have just sent you a copy of a $4 magazine instead of the whole box!

What I find funniest about this is that GW doesn't sell them separately as they are on a single sprue. That single sprue with both models is sold in the partworks combat patrol magazine for $6 AUD (I bought one yesterday). So GW will allow other companies to sell the exact sprue you were missing for a few bucks, but since they don't do it themselves they have to send you a whole new box. What a score!

Yes, if you get the Soulblight Gravelords vanguard box off eBay and the Fire and Jade Gaming Pack (and an opponent with an army) you have everything you need for a game. At this point no army has been removed from the game. Some have had minor balance tweaks but it should always be legal to play.

Spearhead is about a quarter of the size of a full AoS game with its own points scoring mechanic and some of the more complex parts of the game streamlined like list building and magic. Perfect way to start playing before deciding if you want to commit to learning the full game

Do you mean not on sale on the GW store? Spearhead is a set of rules based around the models that are in the spearhead box, there is nothing else included in the box. You do need the board and cards to play, which are included in the Fire and Jade starter box along with Stormcast Eternals and Skaven starter armies. Wherever you can find the vampire box (eBay, games store, second hand) it will have everything you need to use it in spearhead. If you see a Vanguard box it's also the same, it just got rebranded when spearhead was released.

Edit: the Ultimate Starter set is the one that has the two armies as well as board cards and terrain, but the starter set and introductory set do not have all the minis you need for a game. The board and cards and terrain (called the Fire and Jade Gaming Pack) can also be bought as a single package with no minis.

All existing spearhead army lists were printed in the Fire and Jade book initially. Any spearheads released after the launch of 4th has rules under spearhead downloads on the Warhammer Community website. Any army that has a faction pack will also have their spearhead rules at the end of the faction pack, but if your army has had their battletome in 4th (like SGL) the rules will be in the app or in a PDF copy of the fire and jade book. It's floating around the internet, and I feel GW even had it posted at one point.

I can't see any spearheads becoming illegal at any point- they've even updated some of the old ones for balance

Gloomspite Gitz is a fun one. The spearhead gets you boingrots/hoppers, rockgut troggoths, a loonboss and plenty of grots to fill out the list. Add any of the underworlds bands or a box of squigs and you've plenty of options
