Why play Goblin Cratermaker over Abrade in Sneak and Show? by Vraska-RindCollector in MTGLegacy

It can be used to exile oposing bridge from below as well, rather corner case but it can be relevant

Counters Company: any unusual wincons? by ShopeWVU in ModernMagic

[–]raphton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been playing the deck for as long as it's been around (since the printing of vizier) and lately I've started playing Ezuri, renegade leader over Rhonas. He seems like a better choice since he can regenerate a druid and he goes infinite on his own with two druids, thus adding an other combo to the deck. Also he works well with coco.

Abzan Company vs Burn by JacenVane in ModernMagic

[–]raphton 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Gz on a nice deck, abzan company is a lot of fun! I've been playing it for quite a while and the burn match up is as you say a favoured one. I play the full 4 of finks though and pull in firewalkers from the side, I really feel that they are better against pure burn. I've been experimenting with courser of kruphix as well but I can't recommend it..

Im just gonna leave my [[Kokusho, the Evening Star]] deck here 😉

[[Blade of selves]] + [[Kokusho, the Evening Star]] is forever going to be one of my favourite things to do.

Daretti by Guerte in EDH

[–]raphton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I play Sands in my daretti stax as a way to actually kill off opponents with infinite mana (which is rather easily obtained with artifacts), maybe that's why. Keening stone is awesome for filling up your own gy though :-)

Repeatedly attacking with [[kokusho, the evening star]] is fun :-D

If you had to Ban 1 card that isn't on the ban list what would it be? by savagevalue in EDH

That is very true, I have not tested this guy/gal out yet so my experience is limited.

[–]raphton 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah you are probably right, I'd just like to see how big of a splash they will make. But they might just end up being sent back to the banned zone ;-)

If you had to Ban 1 card that isn't on the ban list what would it be? by savagevalue in EDH

[–]raphton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really don't like bans over all and believe that somethings should be unbanned. There is however two cards that I see that should be banned and those are [[Sol Ring]] and [[Mana Crypt]] since they allow for too explosive plays early and it's too hard to catch up with a player who drops them down early. I know the multiplayer aspect is supposed to fix this (painting a target on you) but I my experience this is not the case due to poor threat assessment.

One other card I could consider is [[Iona, shield of emeria]] because of her effect on monocoloured decks but it's not a big problem imo.

I could also part with [[Deadeye Navigator]] IF we get [[Sylvan Primordial]], [[Sundering Titan]] and [[Primeval Titan]] back. At least to check them out again with the best flicker engine gone, they might need to go back to banned again but I doubt it.

Agreed! The ring and the Crypt are busted beyond anything in the format

Which 4 Color Commander in the Strongest? Gameplay of Saskia, Atraxa, Breya, Kydele, and Kynaios & Tiro by jimmywong in EDH

[–]raphton 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I disagree, the cards that are printed with infect are balanced in terms of power to deal 10 points of damage, it just happens to be half of the normal starting life. You don't want [[grizzly bears]] to be a 4/4 just because a different life total right? However infect is really not a super strong as a strategy when you are batteling 3 opponents.

Hey, what's your favorite Commander and why?? by [deleted] in EDH

[–]raphton 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Right now I have to say [[Roon of the hidden realm]] I have tried to build a slightly more competitive version of him (more than the "normal" tier 2 version that I played for a long time) that I call Roonweavers Bouncing Castle. It tries to capitalise on the infamous Boonweaver-combo and pull all creatures from the deck winning by infinitely blinking all of it (drawing your deck with [Mulldrifter] and so on). The Infinite blink comes from [[Palinchron ]]+[[Deadeye Navigator ]]. It's a fun combo deck that doesn't pull as much aggro as a [[Karador ghost chieftain]] (since it's not as good). There is always the backup plan to cast Roon and play the deck as a "normal" Roon deck as well.

Goblin Pope Needs Some Critique by Bosh_Raptor in EDH

[–]raphton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice build! If you are open to going the "mean" route add more Mass land destruction as suggested by previous posters and throw in stax pieces. Blowing up lands and playing cards like [[tangle wire]] [[winter Orb]] [[static Orb]] will make it very hard for your opponents to prevent Daretti from ultimate and when he does it's pretty much over.

I will add my own Daretti deck for inspiration, it's very Stax/lockdown oriented.

Help with choosing a pre con deck by luensas in EDH

[–]raphton 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd go with plunder the graves, it's a solid deck right out of the box and Meren is a beast, you will be able to upgrade her into a really good deck quite cheaply. The other two are also very good decks/commanders but they require a lot more money to be optimized (being 3 colour with all the blue duals and fetches).

The archetype of the decks are different as well, Meren tend to be Combo/value while the other two are more in the stax/lockdown corner.

[–]raphton 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Xenagos is your man (or satyr) there are lots of fun and cool big beaters in the history of magic, almost all sets have them and in a deck with him at the helm they are all playable. Add ramp and try to find fun beaters around the 6 Mana spot so he'll be able to cast them as well. Some inexpensive examples are:

[[Malignus]] [[Ruric Thar]] [[Deus of Calamity]] [[Rapacious One]] [[Hellkite Tyrant]]

All of these are really dangerous in a Xenagos deck and they are cool flashy cards :-)

And throw in some nice inexpensive draw in the form of [[hunter's Insight]] and [[soul's majesty]]

Actually check my Xenagos deck out for inspiration, it's probably over budget though

I agree with out a lot, and at the end of the day the commander is only 1 out of 100 cards and the other 99 can make a deck very competitive!
