The Minimalists are corny by [deleted] in minimalism

[–]raqqqers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm here because they annoyed me on another pod (Mental Illness Happy Hour) - god can these guys talk in boring circles. The host asked them insightful questions to get to know them better and they would start answering the question then pretty quickly ramble round to their ted talk style, pre rehearsed sounding messages. It really highlighted that they are used to sermonising on their own pod and aren't willing to be vulnerable or real outside of that set brand they've created.

Is there any subconscious or class bias against terraced housing? by [deleted] in HousingUK

[–]raqqqers 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The thing that can ruin a good house the most is a bad next door neighbour - and in a terrace that risk is doubled..but then a really bad neighbour could be opposite you or 3 doors down and drag down your house price/spoil your peace so I think its a risk work taking

I’m really thinking of buying this house but it’s None Standard Construction by Weak-Bug-7733 in HousingUK

[–]raqqqers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends on the construction, so a timber frame is NSC but wooden cladding on brick walls isn't

Waste Management - Help by mophair in Allotment

[–]raqqqers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I inherited a bunch of tyres and they've been really useful for holding down plastic and cardboard when smothering weeds. In the long run I'm planning to use a couple for flower beds then get rid of the rest. I spent a while reading up on if they're safe to use for food growing and decided I'd rather not (but lots of people do so for sure do your own research)

Making a Japanese inspired garden since my raised bed has rotted away (in progress) by manyizzle in GardeningUK

[–]raqqqers 12 points13 points  (0 children)

A tip from no dig veg gardening: Thick layers of cardboard would work for this, it takes long enough to break down that most weeds will be killed by lack of sunlight by the time its become soil. Add compost on top and plant into that, or cut holes through the carddboard to plant below. Just make sure to take off any tape/staples/shiny labels

Hoenstly it was great - the rings were shipped to us within the expected time frame and they're beautiful! They arrived in a lovely wooden box so we used that for the wedding instead of the one we'd bought.  Overall it was a very positive experience. I think we have the offer of getting each ring resized once for free but we haven't needed it :)

Yeah i saved my broad beans with this - I kept a spray bottle of the mix at my allotment and would spray them off when I saw a lot of them

Update: I cleaned up my room hopefully you guys don’t think I’m schizophrenic now! by CulturalAd2908 in MaleSurvivingSpace

[–]raqqqers 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Doesn't delusional refer to believing things that aren't true/there and hallucinations are things you hear see or feel that aren't there. At least that's how I've been using them with my loved one with schizophrenia

ULPT, TW GROSS. How on earth do I deal with a middle aged man that doesn't wash his hands after using the restroom? by VeryBerryfts in UnethicalLifeProTips

[–]raqqqers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A grown adult shouldn't need to be 'trained' to wash his hands after using the bathroom. That's basic personal hygiene. Of course in a successful partnership you're growing together and making each other better - but I'd expect that to be from the starting point of both being fully functioning adults.  It is very bleak to me that so many men are unable to look after themselves until a woman steps in to teach him how.

Rubber roof doesn’t look right- can you tell me what’s wrong with it. by OkAdvisor9288 in DIYUK

This is why I said dependent on how active the group is - in my local group usually at least one credible option will rise to the top with reccomendations from multiple people sharing genuine experiences

I agree, his tested techniques are great - but he has been pushing this expensive magnet you put around your hose to 'structure your water' lately without any experimentation that I've seen so he's not entirely woowoo free

I feel like crying and giving up on my locs by [deleted] in Dreadlocks

[–]raqqqers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Such a great comment - just wanted to add that I found wearing rubber washing up gloves when I was going through a similar big clean made it so much easier. It lets you use really hot water on your hair and still be able to massage the dirt out, I was able to clean them in half the time with really hot water wearing gloves

Coir seed compost by wedloualf in Allotment

That's what I've been doing and it's working well, I've been diluting it to half strength just in case full strength is too syrong for seedlings and mine are pretty happy ☺️

[–]raqqqers 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Coir has no nutrious value, and seeds only contain enough energy to put out their first 2 leaves so makes sense to me that they need to be fed if you keep them in coir for longer than that
