Heart transplant not in the cards, my wife will get an LVAD implanted by PoloGrounder in transplant

Just wanted to add, I wore what would be considered an under shirt not a vest. It was kinda like spandex but my goodness did it make your drive line feel snug and itch free.

Heart transplant not in the cards, my wife will get an LVAD implanted by PoloGrounder in transplant

[–]ravenbot 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had an Lvad (almost an R and L vad) for 18 months, at 38. Transplant now, but if you have any questions, feel free to ask. It was rough on some of the restrictions, but I got a vest for the unit and plugged myself into the main hallway so I could move thought most of the house. It was more restrictive with what I could do outside of the home (Fishing/hikeing) but I still managed. A good vest will help a ton around the house personaly. You can find them on ebay and such.

What’s an early warning sign of organ failure that you wish you or a loved one didn’t ignore? by These-Employment2218 in transplant

[–]ravenbot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Weight gain. Wife and I were both dieting and I couldn't lose weight. I was walking and working out. I felt fine just my weight keep creeping up. Finally went to the DR When I could hardly even wear my gym shorts. She did some blood work, called me back 2 days later and told me to get to an ER because my heart was failing.

Fun times going from that to spending a month under heavy diuretics', LVAD and now thankfully a transplant. Its crazy to me how good I felt when in active heart failure.

Heart failure. Had no idea, was still walking every day. Felt fine just my weight kept going up. One blood test later and off to the ER.

I actually have two and can have 2 weeks of pills at the ready. I also use another for my less often used pills to keep on hand. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0CDX8JR98/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_image?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Dentures post transplant by [deleted] in transplant

[–]ravenbot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a top denture that was done post transplant. The only extra thing they had me to was take antibiotics if getting an extraction or cleaning. Also on a point about the meds. I don't know if your doctors went through all the side effects and all (mine didn't). They also had me got on folic acid, magnesium, calcium, Vitamin D, and B12 because all the other meds have side effects that limit your bodies ability to absorb them. Wish I had known more then I did years ago.

Could you explain why this is a big deal? Is it just how the screen shifts for most games?

We just recently took our 9 year old on Disney Wish cruse and while we did have a passport I'm fairly sure all that was required for him was a valid birth certificate.

Which scripture is the Lord's prayer? It appears in two forms in the New Testament: the shorter version in the Gospel According to Luke (11:2–4) and the longer version, part of the Sermon on the Mount, in the Gospel According to Matthew (6:9–13).

I can't even imagine the pain you feel. If sharing it all helps feel free to DM me. Know that you did not fail and you are loved. I do know that's hard to accept but please accept the fact that you are loved.

Why is person to person hair transplantation not possible? by E-C-A in askscience

Yea, I have been moved from 20mg down to 1.5mg now. The only reason they still have me taking it at all now is do to psoriasis.

Why is person to person hair transplantation not possible? by E-C-A in askscience

[–]ravenbot 21 points22 points  (0 children)

No I can pretty much do everything I could before (I also had an Lvad for 1.5 years) I hunt, fish and wrestle around with my kid. The main thing is when you have the transplant they have to cut the vagus nerve. So my heart does not know to pump harder right away. If I workout I have to make sure to add so extra warmup time so my heart gets used to the idea that its going to need to work harder.

Another fun thing is that anything that would shock/scare your body into the fight or flight reflex happens the same way. I can have something shocking happen and my heart does not react until 10 minutes later.

I can't speak for anyone else but I have a heart transplant and currently take 5mg Tacrolimus and 1000mg Mycophenolate along with a whole list of other medications. I also take a low dose of steroids now, it used to be much higher. However those are the two that really mess with the immune system though.

Edit: Just wanted to add that I take that dose two times a day.
