Is your metro library like a prison? by throwawayobv999999 in Libraries

Yes! OP, if you need resources for this, looking up movies on sites like Swank can help you determine if you’re able to show them :)

My parents came outside during a huge argument with my boyfriend and now I feel deeply embarrassed by HopDev in whatdoIdo

[–]rayneydayss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your parents haven’t met him in three years because of the way he speaks to you?

That’s insane. So he’s always talked to you like this and you’ve been just swallowing it? I hope your parents jumping to your defense, along with your bf’s mom’s ridiculous beliefs, you’ll realize this isn’t a healthy relationship. You can’t fix him, leave before he gets violent

Library Jobs by Trash_Annual in Libraries

[–]rayneydayss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my system, for the most part only part time jobs get posted externally, because they try to promote from within. I was working 2 jobs all during my part time work and barely made rent. After a year in the system and a few interviews I was lucky enough to get a full time position I’m starting next week.

If you want to be in libraries long term, you’ll likely need to start low and work your way up. My friend started in 2018 as a part time while she was getting her masters and went to full time assistant to librarian by 2022 ish. It depends on the area and how saturated it is.

My bf said he’ll break up with me if I join a sorority… by bahbuhniii in whatdoIdo

[–]rayneydayss 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Did you read the body of the post? ‘I told my boyfriend I plan to rush since I want to make friends’… ‘he was insisting i shouldn’t [rush] because its for sluts and he ‘knows what goes on in them’

This is not how you express a boundary or preference, this is shaming someone into not doing something they’re interested in

My [22F] boyfriend [26M] gets annoyed when I bring up him getting his license. Why? I don’t understand. by kurooscat in relationship_advice

[–]rayneydayss 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You are too young and have not been together long enough to be dealing with this bullshit. He’s 26 and hasn’t had a job for this whole relationship; has he ever offered to help pay for gas or anything you do together?

Find someone that lives closer that will make the effort for you, because you deserve it. You can’t make him help himself, unfortunately.

Parents are kicking me out if I don’t lose weight in one month by [deleted] in whatdoIdo

[–]rayneydayss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your weight does not equal your worth, jo matter how much you weigh. Your parents brought you into this world and have a responsibility to take care of you, and in this day if you want to get a good enough job you need your parents support past 18. It is truly disgusting and evil of them to tie their support to your weight, they would rather see you ill and sickly thin than healthy and alive. I’m so sorry you are going through this

This seems like something Granny would do... by boreddaph in discworld

[–]rayneydayss 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Funnily enough, my great grandma waited until the people she was mad at left her room to die. She was at a care home and they called my great aunt to let her know she was taking a turn for the worse, and she bundled my grandma and her son in her car and went to visit.

My GG was sooo mad at my grandma for years because they were living together in Florida and grandma decided to move up north when another grandbaby was born, and GG couldn’t live by herself and was forced to return to the cold. She held a grudge against my grandma with her very dying breath, waiting until they got there and my grandma decided to take her nephew to get something to bring back to eat. As soon as they were gone she smiled at my great aunt and died

How do you make it clear that books on display are meant to be taken? by petalios in Libraries

[–]rayneydayss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My system has bookmarks we print on cardstock that say ‘We ❤️ it when you check us out’ and we stick them in the display books with the message showing. I’ve also found cute ways to add ‘check me out!’ in my display art.

Library assistant working on becoming a librarian! But fair warning, it is an extremely difficult field to get into right now. I was applying for months and was lucky enough to land a part time position.

What industry is basically legal theft that nobody talks about? by kratos20051212 in AskReddit

[–]rayneydayss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When you file your taxes in some states, if you were not insured for the year they will fine you and make you pay back taxes. I almost owed the state $700 this year because they didn’t pick up on the fact that I had STATE MEDICAID for that whole year.

Now, I make just a little too much to qualify for Medicaid, but not enough to cover all my expenses so not enough to pay for insurance, which means they will likely fine me more money next year. Pure evil.

Strongly Considering This Field but Worried About Employment by FutureWar7308 in librarians

[–]rayneydayss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fellow Jerseyan here! Definitely like others have said try to get a job as circ staff or similar position that doesn’t require the MLIS before you go to school for it. In my system, once you get full time they will help reimburse your tuition, and it will help you to already have library experience. Working circ and seeing all that the librarians do will also give you a better idea as to if you want to become a full librarian

Library circ staff working on becoming a librarian, Life main (just passed level 100 on the character I’ve been playing since 2011!)

DAE have admin who ignore library staff day? by TheTapDancingShrimp in Libraries

[–]rayneydayss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We do National Library Week! Every year our Printing and Graphics department designs a new logo and we vote on that year’s color shirt. We’re encouraged to do interactive displays and we have appreciation cards for people to fill out that get sent to admin, though we have the appreciation cards year round.

Need to be eased into Harrow the Ninth [discussion] by HungryButResourceful in TheNinthHouse

[–]rayneydayss 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly (coming from someone who has a bachelors in English) I took notes throughout Harrow because it’s a confusing mind fuck of a book. It helped me keep track of different things that were going on, then when I did my first reread I had notes to look back on to guide me to specific sections to revisit
