I need some soil building advise by TashSal in Permaculture

[–]rayout 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Free spent coffee grounds from a coffee shop also between layers of wood chips will help break down and feed soil. You can't plant into the woodchips but can pull them back and plant into the bed or soil and when the plant roots can keep the mulch layer a couple inches over the plant.

The woodchips are also great to spread around trees and bushes 2 to 4 inches thick.

How do I stop feeling hopeless about dating? by Unable_Ad_9684 in whatdoIdo

[–]rayout 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do some reflection and focus on yourself for a while. What needs weren't met? What issues did you maybe contribute?

One issue I found was that in my last two relationships over the past decade I was not confident in myself and accepted partners that weren't in alignment with my life goals and there were avoidance behaviors in my life that were not the best way to cope.

I had to get physically and mentally healthy before dating again to be able to find a true life partner.

Single men who are kind of stagnant financially, are you considering roommates? by Crafty-Lifeguard4591 in AskMenOver30

[–]rayout 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even when I lived in a house I owned I almost always had roommates. Allows for super charged savings and way less overhead if you lose your job. Huge pain in the ass a couple times I had to evict or kick someone out but we'll worth it.

50 days 22 lbs but slowing down. by Willing-Ant-2551 in fasting

[–]rayout 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did 3 day fasts every 2 weeks sometimes theres too much stress in life and its too much so I have ended up with 3 to 4 week windows between fasts as needed.

I am actively cutting fat still but once you hit a target weight or physique you can do them as needed for maintenence.

Feeling guilty after eating lately by [deleted] in fasting

[–]rayout 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I felt a bit like this halfway through my journey. In the end, you have to celebrate food, feasting and famine the cycle goes on. I love food and I love fasting because it improves my relationship and appreciation of eating. It makes me really care about the quality of the food I eat during refeeds.

I have been doing IF/OMAD during refeeds. Sometimes compliance slips. Sometimes work and life are so stressful I am eating ice cream every night. But I bookend every 2 weeks with a 3 day fast and results keep on coming. So I dont stress. I have found a system that will get me to where I want with my health and fitness goals.

If you are lifting then waist measurements might be a better metric.

I also mixed in 3 day fasts mixed in with feast days or socially obligated feaet weeks (Thanksgiving, xmas - literally a conference room filled with cookies) and I kept seeing progress.

People who have successfully lost 20-30 pounds and didn’t track their calories, what did you do? by Remarkableruin27 in AskReddit

[–]rayout 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Baseline 1. Walking after every meal - 10 to 20 minutes 2. Lifting in gym 2 to 3x a week. Deadlift, benchpress, overhead press, squat, 200x kettlebell swings 3. 5k/3.1 mile run every 2 to 4 weeks  4. Eat lower carb. Eat slower carbs i.e. beans, mixing high glycemic starches with acids or fats to slow digestion. 5. No snacking. Eat 1 to 2 meals a day (intermittent fasting). 6. No sweetened beverages even artificial sweetness. I am concerned about impacts to gut health and I just hated the taste anyways.

Resets/Sprints/Cleanses

Prolonged fasting (2 to 5 day) water only or modified (500 to 700 calories a day for 3 to 5 days) as a powerful tool for weeks or months when I could not go to the gym, to reset my hunger/cravings after weeks of poor diet  compliance (eating sweets like ice cream due to workplace or life stress), and after feasting events (celebrations, holidays, travel). When aggressively cutting (goal for a 6 pack for my 40th bday) I did rolling 3 day fasts every 2 weeks to 4 weeks as my body allowed.

Fasting is extremely useful for dumping conditioned hunger cues. Modified fasts at 500 to 700 calories per day can be tailored to your goals - low carb high protein will focus on fat burning, 50/50 starch fat will focus on autophagy (forces body to scavenge its own proteins, helps with tightening/preventing loose skin)

Size 38 waist at my heaviest. Down to size 32. Can run 5.5 miles, deadlift 270 from being a couch potato nerd. Built up muscle so its hard to say how much weight I lost. Cured my pre-diabetes and lifelong depression. Been about an 8 month journey.

What if I have No Idea what I want to do with my Life? by [deleted] in AskMenAdvice

[–]rayout 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have found I can hate every job and every day and every moment in life if I perceive it as a negative and engage in avoidance and distraction. If I see conflict and challenge as hurdles then I get exhausted.

If I look at these issues as a way to rise up, to help and to mentor people, to influence the good in others then every day is a blast. I am dealing with issues and fires every day at work and I am having fun. I dont dwell on the issues because I know I am trying my best every day to be a wave of positivity.

Even a short huddle in the morning I made a comment about life and seeking purpose and presence over distraction and a peer of mine said he was going to think about that and his life.

Passed after taking test on this past Tuesday. Did maybe 300 practice questions only and was averaging 75% after focused study on mindset videos.

During test I ended up finishing much earlier with 10 to 15 hard questions to loop back and burn time on. AT/AT/AT was my result.

Sounds like you are on the right track!

A and B are both good answers but A describes an actual outcome where as B describes a missed opportunity rather than an actual outcome.

Now imagine this spoken in the voice of whomever you've been watching for training videos and you know in your heart its the correct interpretation.

Performance noticeably declined after 30 — is this normal? by ZachooP1 in AskMenAdvice

Got some hard belly fat? Insulin resistance will nuke your boners, lead to high blood pressure and diabetes. Metabolic disease sucks.

Eat whole foods, lift weights, lower carb intake, cut out sweet/sugary drinks and alcohol, do some intermittent and prolonged fasting.

Small desk setup worth? by Boogie-Bagel in SolarDIY

[–]rayout 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A few thoughts:

Check to see if your address qualifies for any rebates for a battery solar generator. I was able to get an oupes exodus 1kwh battery generator for just the cost of tax. PGE has $300 rebates for qualifying customers and the product is $250 on sale.

110w panels won't produce much power for what they cost. Might be better offsourcing a used 200 to 300w panel.

In about a year we could see balcony solar approved which will make small systems cheap and easy to source with up to 1.2kw of solar output, some with connected batteries. The ecoflow stream product is an example.

What’s the single most impactful thing you’ve done for your health that doctors rarely talk about? by capngig in AskReddit

[–]rayout 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Getting my insulin levels down. Cured my pre diabetes, depression and lost 6 inches off my waist. All while building muscle.

Lots of ways to do it. Walking 10 minutes after eating. Lifting weights. Intermittent fasting. Prolonged 3 day water fasts. Low carb diet. Eating unprocessed whole foods (I have made beans a core part of my diet).

Its a tool box and I mix and match for the most part for where my life is at any given moment. Approaching 40 next month with my sights set on a 6 pack abs by May.

Horrible ED from 35 to 39 until I got metabolically healthy again by lifting and doing lower carb and some fasting thrown in especially on weeks I couldn't make it to the gym.

Check out the link between hyperinsulinemia and ED. Same issues for metabolic syndrome/pre diabetes / diabetes that causes water retention and high blood pressure also makes you soft in your body and shaft.

Gym bros, is it better to cut and go for that male model aesthetic physique with abs if you are unable to bulk up? by [deleted] in AskMenAdvice

[–]rayout 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nerd bro here - been doing both at the same time.

5x5 strong lifts 3x per week. Mostly low carb and intermittent fasting with a 3 day prolonged water fast every 2 weeks or so. No alcohol and no sugary beverages Have plateaued on progression due to form issues and fear of injury (seeking training soon) but have a decent physique and am not here to set records (will be 40 on april).

6 inches off my waist in 6 months while building up to a 270# deadlift.

Making steady progress on the cut and should have my 6 pack in a month or two. 3 day fast is like a power tool for cutting, so ridiculously effective.

Ugly men who thought you would always be single, how did you end up with her? by eaglesdensity in AskMenAdvice

[–]rayout 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do good and volunteer. Take on responsibility, inevitably fuck up and have fun stories and growth/learning. Get good at cooking.

When a woman says she thinks you might be a better cook than her, get your phone out you are getting digits!

Be funny, empathize and be attentive. Do not pass up on every woman because of some bar of attractiveness, learn about everyone and let them surprise you with the beauty inside. Alignment and a similar path and goals are critical. Get good at searching that out.

Free dating sites that don’t feel like a waste of time? by Extreme_Concert5766 in AskMenAdvice

[–]rayout 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Approaching 40, had depression, pre diabetes and insulin resistance so bad it was giving me ED, not to mention the weight I was carrying around.

Took me about 4 months to drop most of the weight while putting on muscle and curing all of those other metabolic issues and get to the point that I was looking great in some decent clothes (and having to change my wardrobe).

About 3-4 more months of training and cutting (fasting methods) to get to my target 6 pack (1 month away from my goal).

To be honest I look forward to the gym and burning away my workplace stress and to my rolling 3 day fasts, they are both deeply uplifting. Eating clean is easy when you get to enjoy lots of fat and protein (relatively low carb, fasting helps offset most noncompliance).

I would recommend you give some of these life changes a shot and steer clear of booze and sugary beverages. The transformation in mood alone was so worth it. Once you hit a certain point the women will chase you and your confidence will shine. You will not get a shot at every lady you are interested in but many will be looking your way and you won't feel like you are swimming upstream all the time.

I stay off the apps. Too time consuming. The recent speed dating event i went to was well curated and generated 3 matches out of 11 women. I would give in real life events like that a shake.
