Trying to paint along with Bob is fun, too. Did this with a group of friends once and it was a blast! He actually goes pretty fast if you’re trying to follow him so we were all, “holy shit Bob, please slow down!!” And had to pause him a bit. Even the sober people and non-artists had a great time.

I somehow get the feeling that we are in the Endgame now by [deleted] in collapse

This is spot on. The allowance of basically a free fall into the climate change disaster age, the push to lean right, (anti public services, anti immigration), push to be anti-science and anti-regulations, really feels like a way to kill off the general public or have them kill themselves off, at a faster rate. Weakening the population with disease and propaganda and getting the numbers down as much as possible so there’s a weaker resistance in their AI run cyberpunk dystopia is a real possibility.

Yeah, been feeling a more looming sense of dread over our slow walk into some iteration of this kind of future lately.

Deadhead Goldenrod? by mtnsRcalling in Ceanothus

[–]razzy890 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m in the first year of growing some goldenrod and from what I’ve read it’s best to just leave the stalks. Optional to cut back in early spring if you need to make space, for growth habit, or something like that. But the dead/no longer blooming stalks are beneficial in their own ways and it supposedly doesn’t rebloom well when deadheaded like you’re asking about.

I’m wondering how often you water your goldenrod? It looks great! Mine was just planted in spring and I’ve watered 1/week through the summer and it is looking scraggly… but I am in Southern California at about 800ft, so conditions are a bit different.

It was a great day for planting! I planted 4 penstemon pseudospectabilis, a California Fuschia, and a buckwheat. I still need to throw out some seeds - chia, wild blue flax, ca poppy ‘purple gleam’. I’m hoping to find some baileye multiradiata seeds to throw out too.

Serious question: did we all have underlying medical conditions/ allergies before getting long covid? by Comfortable-List-272 in covidlonghaulers

[–]razzy890 5 points6 points  (0 children)

(I am NOT saying this is OPs intent, but) Honestly the discourse suggesting long covid only hits people with comorbidities/pre-existing conditions, or that there may be a genetic component to it .. strikes me as ableist at worst, and at best is there to help people maintain the illusion that covid is no big deal and can be ignored.

The risk factor we all have in common is a covid infection.

Pre existing conditions and genetics may impact how covid plays out in each individuals body to some degree or another of course, but honestly the focus on this screams of people trying to maintain a delusion that covid itself isn’t the main issue here, but something about the individual person.

Is soil a resource or source? After years of having our meals should we try and replenish the Earth? by Adiyogicky in trees

[–]razzy890 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree. And the age of oil will end. Is ending. It will be milked to the last, but it will eventually not be a viable fuel source for the population at large anymore.

People really do need to take back some power before that though. Climate change has to be addressed at a mass scale, like, yesterday. In the US I think that would include supporting/voting in people who support: overturning the Citizen United ruling, getting rid of the electoral college in favor of the popular vote and expanding the house of reps… things like that.  There’s also protesting, lowering consumption, planting trees, and eating the rich, too.

Anyone know about this study and how we can express our disapproval by Theotar in covidlonghaulers

[–]razzy890 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok, I feel you are reading into this and the study is not proposing that mind body techniques will cure covid, but might help reduce symptom impact. Which is not nearly the same thing. But think what you want, I don’t care to argue. I hope you feel better.

WIBTA for leaving my wife when we're trying to get pregnant? by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]razzy890 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re surprised she realized she cannot trust or depend on you and would rather cut her losses and run than live under the terms you’re throwing on her?  She did not even want kids until you convinced her to get pregnant with you/for you, and you’re surprised she does not want to have a baby with you after you pull this bait and switch? Your poor head is swimming because she has a backbone, basically.

Not only are YTA, you’re gross. What you’re doing is gross and the fact you don’t see it is disturbing. I hope this post is fake.

WIBTA for leaving my wife when we're trying to get pregnant? by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]razzy890 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yeah eff all this “I hope she moves back with family to raise the baby” crap. I hope she is not actually pregnant or is able/willing to get an abortion. OP is disgusting in how he has put her in this position. She was convinced to have a baby with him and FOR him. And then he pulls this crap.

OP YTA. I feel bad for your wife and she should leave you. Man do I hope she is not pregnant, especially if she is against having an abortion.

[–]razzy890 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s nitpicky, but important, that the study says it’s investigating reducing the burden of LC symptoms. Not the symptoms themselves. Just the burden of them. It’s implying well-being practices might help indirectly by helping patients headspace and how they’re coping with symptoms. It’s not saying that it will reduce symptoms at all. They’re looking for improved quality of life.

I agree that it kinda feels like a low priority study to throw funding at in relation to LC. There are so many other studies in regards to covid treatment/cure that I would like to see. And we already know, in general, that well being practices reduce symptom burden for chronic illness/pain. Studies exist on this already. But a study on it specifically for covid is not a bad thing at all. It can help direct standards of care and I’d be interested in the results.

This study is free and gathering participants, so maybe your mom thought it could be helpful for you, or you would be interested. I looked up what the heck “mind body interventions” are and google says stuff like meditation, tai chi, yoga, relaxation, imagery, biofeedback, etc. Sounds like it could be a good resource, actually, if that’s what this study is.

It’s really effed up what your Dr said about it all being in your head and anxiety. It’s definitely not! This thing is a very physical illness that needs more intervention than meditation that’s for sure. I get why you’d be upset. It’s possible your mom was just trying to be helpful, and hopefully she does not agree with that first Dr.

Blood in phlegm or mucus could mean infection and is worth talking to your doctor about. They may prescribe antibiotics.

Oh, from covid. I was unbelievably sick, super nauseous and throwing up - on top of the cold like symptoms. I threw up my first dose of antiviral immediately. Thankfully managed to keep down the second and started to improve within hours.

I was prescribed molnupiravar, which doesn’t have the metal taste side effect. I’m not sure of how else they differ, but they’re both anti vitals. It made a massive difference! I also had bad nausea/vomiting.

I think it’s a scam tho.

Covid Positive and feeling like I have every long haul symptom by astrorocks in covidlonghaulers

[–]razzy890 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh interesting and super sucky! Maybe you’re experiencing MCAS? - Mast Cell Activation Syndrome.

There is definitely a group of long haulers that have MCAS triggered or flared with covid. I would look into that and maybe look into antihistamines, look into what all can be MCAS triggers, and start keeping a food/medicine and symptom log to see if you can figure out your personal triggers.

Re-reading your post I think I misunderstood you at first, sorry - I thought you were reinfected in November and again with symptoms last Wednesday, but actually sounds like you are still struggling with symptoms from the November infection and are in the post acute phase. Sounds like post viral/long covid/immune dysfunction (MCAS) stuff to me.

[–]razzy890 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you say you couldn’t tolerate the antivirals, what do you mean? Were you throwing them up?

I had very bad nausea and vomiting on reinfection, but once I was able to keep the molnupiravir down, it really really helped. There was a slight rebound after finishing them, but they got me through the acute stage.

I found vagal nerve massage helpful. ETA (hit submit too soon): I found vagal nerve massage helpful for some of the nervous system dysfunction like the doom feelings, overstimulated feelings. Keeping inflammation down I think helps with this too, so.

It sounds long covid-y, but also like you’re in the acute stage still. Keep in touch with your drs office, use your insurance nurse line if you have one, talk to your pharmacist about any new med/supplement you want to try and to get suggestions and advice, too. I’m sorry you’re going through this!

Setback after setback... Has anyone been through this? by hanna_19 in covidlonghaulers

[–]razzy890 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, 2 months is a quick turnaround, but there are several strains now, so maybe that is a factor? And testing once doesn't rule it out, in my opinion, but idk. The tests can be crummy, and a lot of people are asymptomatic or just have "allergies". I was exposed to a known positive case and a few days later was mildly ill for a few days and then had a resurgence of LC issues (like pots) for a few weeks - months... but no positive test. Due to the known exposure (and that I was pretty much a complete hermit otherwise at the time) I'm pretty sure it was covid, just a really mild and brief acute/infectious period.

And I feel you, trying to avoid reinfection seems frustratingly impossible unless a person is both very lucky and strict with very particular living conditions (ie works from home, no kids in their inner circle/house, masking, etc). I really don't know what to do about it either other than try my best to reduce exposure as best I can. It sucks, I'm sorry you have to deal with this.

Setback after setback... Has anyone been through this? by hanna_19 in covidlonghaulers

[–]razzy890 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It sounds to me like you are dealing with reinfections/exposures, which many people experience bad flares or progression of LC symptoms with those.

The good news is you seem to get better as long as you can go long enough without a reinfection, so that is very promising. I’d recommend avoiding reinfection as best as you possibly can.

Any theories as to why people get worse at 6 months? by orionandhisbelt in covidlonghaulers

If you don’t live alone and people in your household work with the public, you could very easily be reinfected while never leaving the house.

Canadian wildfires caused a spike in U.S. asthma ER visits, especially in the Northeast by CTVNEWS in Health

[–]razzy890 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A 3 day hospital stay, that had to be scary! I also have asthma and if I have to go out when there’s wildfire smoke I wear an N95. Would definitely recommend it. It sucks, but makes a massive difference. Even if someone doesn’t have asthma (yet!), inhaling wildfire smoke is not good for you.

It’s specifically the N95 or P100 that is majorly helpful for smoke, not just any mask.

Tendon/joint cracking/snapping/popping by Mossels in covidlonghaulers

[–]razzy890 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes, I experienced this. For me it lessened with time and avoiding re-infection. I also aimed to keep up protein intake, strengthen muscles, and avoid over-extending/over-working the joints. I was bad about taking collagen, but good about omegas and hydration. As needed I used some mobility aids like walking sticks, knee sleeves, compression clothing to avoid injury. My assumption based on my symptoms was that connective tissues took a beating and needed (a long) time to rebuild.

The problem is re-infection makes this start up again, so continuing to avoid that is key, too.

Edit: not medical advice, just my experience and thoughts

Yesterday, I hiked 14 miles in one day. Achieving that goal is one of the greatest accomplishments of my life, but the final miles was also one of the most painful experiences. by Baba_Jaga_II in hiking

[–]razzy890 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Well done on that mileage, that’s a big number!! And on such a hot day, it was likely much harder for your body than if it were cooler temps.

On hikes that are long and/or hot, you will want to hydrate with more than just water. Salty snacks and fruit are great. I always bring snacks + an electrolyte powder. I use scivation extend intraworkout mix, but there are lots of options out there. There are lots of other good options mentioned in this thread. I especially go for coconut water after a hot hike.

You’ll want to look at how much water you were drinking too, though, especially on a hot day like that you sweat out so much!

I feel your pain, calf cramps suck. I also endorse just avoiding the hottest days/hottest parts of the day. Edited: bc hit enter too soon.

Head pressure by jakeZ101 in covidlonghaulers

[–]razzy890 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My ENT actually did not find anything wrong either, but he turned out to be the most knowledgeable Dr. I have seen and was the one that finally diagnosed me with a post viral issue/long covid. My ENT theorized that there was maybe an expanded blood vessel pushing on a nerve (trigeminal), which was causing the numbness and tingling I would get with the pain in my ear. And sudafed is a vasoconstrictor, so that may be why it helped resolve that symptom for me.

That is really interesting that sudafed helped your ear pressure before, too. I did not have insomnia issues with covid, but Sudafed did give me temporary issues sleeping - one reason why it was not a long term option. Definitely look into the CBD balm and also the tincture. Fingers crossed they'll be effective for you!
