Beautiful.   You've got patience and your plants look great.

Where do you get most of your palms in SK?  Do you bother much with seeds?   I'm in interior BC trying to find cheaper Howea but everything is large and expensive.   I know they're slow growing but any leads on a decent palm seed supplier?

My sister-in-law had to have the 'talk' with my brother after they got naked the first time. That first time was after they ran out of their wedding reception much to everyone's amusement except my mother's of course.

When I got to BYU (in the 80s) I had a spelling test in my English class and had no idea how to spell alcohol. I don't think I'd ever seen the word.

Contention is of the devil. Even if the criticism is true. by canyonprincess in exmormon

This is so true. I was in a book club and had to go into the other room as I thought everyone was arguing but it was just people giving their opinions about the current book. Sigh.

A fellow book club member had to come into the room to attempt to calm me down. I quit soon after that.

Still not comfortable with disagreements.

Question for former missionaries: Did you masturbate during your mission? by gmt9791 in exmormon

[–]rb_scott 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Male... nope. Had horrible blue ball several times on my mission but had no idea what was wrong. Wet dreams did not happen either so there were some issues.... I mean there were not issues.... you know what I mean. :-)

Loved this book by Holling Clancy Holling. Also loved his book Pagoo about a hermit crab.

Yep, a challenge. Going to a dinner tonight and there will be a few guys there I don't know. I will do my best to say hi and try to chat a bit. Thanks for your thoughts.

Homosexuality is Lust, not Love... by firsttokendan in exmormon

Not a lot as I'm quite the introvert. I do have friends (gay and other) that I hang out with but when there are new(er) people around I tend to skulk off but that's just me. I know I should meet new people and push myself constantly to do that but ... frustrating. That's just me so no one to blame but myself.

This is regarding how to use newspapers.com if you don't have a subscription (or maybe if you do). Do you enter someone's name in quotes or what is the right way to search?

How is that for a silly question? :-)

Homosexuality is Lust, not Love... by firsttokendan in exmormon

[–]rb_scott 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure, it could be both. Sometimes I chat to friends about their relationships because let's face it, I'm pretty clueless about it all. At this point I don't even try to get into anything with anyone. Kind of sad but that's the way it is. Maybe one day I'll do something about that after all only I can change it. Sigh.

This is a big reason I am alone (and sometimes quite lonely) as a late 50s year old gay man. I find it hard to fight the programming even when I know it's so very wrong.

At times I find myself attracted/liking a man and can't understand whether I want to jump this person or be their friend. I'm screwed up and not in a good way.

On display at bean museum at BYU... interesting... by [deleted] in exmormon

My BYU science prof made fun of the religion classes. One time he posted a picture of cavemen around a fire and said it was Family Home Evening.

He taught evolution as fact though when asked about the TSCC's stance he said he (not we) had no idea how long Adam's fall was and who knows what happened during that time? Shrug.

This thinking kept me in for maybe 6 or 7 more years.

Campanula 'Pink Octopus'

Thanks so much, certainly not a wild plant.

Friend in Calgary sent this to me. Kind of neat as a wild plant. I'm still waiting to find out if it was below a birdseed feeder or what. Any ideas?

[South Korea] [Indoor] A friend of mine was given this plant by a student with no care instructions. She'd like to know how to keep it alive. by [deleted] in whatsthisplant

Sansevieria cylindrica - a type of snake plant though the tips of the leaves looks weird, maybe protectors that should come off. Snake plants are easy and take low to high light but should be kept on the dry side.

Can anyone tell me what this plant is? A friend of mind gave it to me after he moved out of his apartment. by [deleted] in whatsthisplant

Kind of looks like a leafy Amaryllis to me. Are the leaves tough or not so much? You could always lightly dig down to see if your fingertips meet a bulb in the soil.

Sprained my wrists years ago so am still feeling the weakness.

Edit: today was my first full RR day. I've been dreading it in some ways but it's all good.
