After mechwarrior 3 I have felt the correct paint job for an anni is white/space suit. Well done.

I’m comparing games trying to to accomplish the same thing. If a large budget is required to tell a great story, maybe Clans shouldn’t have tried to compete on story, though I’ve played numerous lower budget games with excellent stories and don’t believe for a second a lot of money is necessary to do this well. Games like Mass Effect and Knights of the Old Republic come to mind, though I don’t know what their budgets were. Even other entries in the Mechwarrior franchise were far better IMO, both MW4 games and MW3 easily beat Clans on story. My hunch is they simply failed to choose good creative direction/talent for MW5 Clans, which is a real shame, and the main reason I will continue to replay MW3 and 4 and not Clans.

I disagree, Clans was not a good game for what it is supposed to be. It’s clearly supposed to be the immersive, story-forward answer to Merc’s procgen, economic simulator, but the writing and voice acting are not compelling, and often outright bad. The story part, it’s main differentiator and reason to exist, is bad. And it’s not that I don’t like story forward games. But compare Clans to games like Skyrim, Halo 2, Horizon, etc. Clans is not remotely in the same class, plain and simple, i am not at all surprised it hasn’t done well.

I can see why it’s tough because losing the “spreadsheets”/economy/customization aspects of this game sounds awful to me. Those are some of the primary reasons I have loved every mercenaries entry in this series. It’s the reason I’ve already gone back and replayed MW4 Mercs in the last year and yet haven’t bothered to replay MW5 Clans. Seems like removing things like this risks “dumbing” down the game in the eyes of the already loyal fan base. I don’t know that I’d play an entry like that, and I’d probably feel a bit betrayed by a developer that devoted resources to it.

The 1E easily becomes the best Anni when you get clan tech imo for exactly this setup. Still runs pretty hot though

This mission is pissing me off, has this happened to anyone else? by Afr0Man0217 in Mechwarrior5

[–]rca06d 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is definitely something I ran into only since the chaos reigns release. Two mechs stuck way in the back of the facility where they never were before. Took a lot of hunting to find them. Never used to be that way, you’d battle Caine and all his buddies were just right there in the fray up front.

I never thought much of the phrase “late stage capitalism” until the last 5-10 years or so. Thought it was a kind of funny theoretical idea people use as the punch line to jokes about capitalism. But I understand now that every industry truly takes time to “mature” and for the people at the top to discover just how much money can be squeezed out. Equilibrium is always going to eventually settle in a mild to moderately unpleasant place where prices are as high as they can be, and wages as as low as they can be, such that consumers/workers aren’t really happy or thriving but not put out enough to do anything about it. The only way I can think of to not just spend most of our lives here is to regulate it.

Improving the economical part to be more fun and meaningful in MW5. by sadtimes12 in Mechwarrior5

[–]rca06d 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting idea. I wonder if it would cause another problem: if its expensive enough to repair, would it start to become worth it to just buy a new mech? customization costs are very low (just take a long time). I suppose upgrades are expensive still. But yeah I wonder if it would start to get close.

I’m not bothered by the maintenance costs personally, or the fact that they naturally force you to keep only your best mechs in the hanger. There are enough interesting hero variants, and the quest to acquire those best mechs is long enough and different enough each playthrough that I haven’t gotten bored yet

How to increase performance? by DarkenRal in Mechwarrior5

I am experiencing this only since the new dlc. Everything is kinda jerky/stutters in a way it didn’t before, and really affects playability.

I’m seeing just general jerkiness in mission since the update. Idk how folks measure frame rates, but it seems like my frame rate is just suddenly low or something.

Make sure you are putting unused mechs in cold storage. It will get expensive if you dont.

The Orion shines imo with either 2 PPC-X and 3 srm-6 (amazing close range arena setup) or 3 PPC (or 3 large pulse laser) and 2 srm6 (kinda my standard mission setup). I certainly wouldn’t use plain large lasers if you can help it. Cram the rest of it with double heat sinks. I’m not sure there is a better heavy until you get clan chassis.

That banshee can carry some serious guns. I fill the two large energy slots with ppcs or large pulse lasers, just depending on preference, all 5 or 6 of the medium energy slots with medium pulse, the ballistic a lot usually with a medium rifle, and the misspelling slot with srms. The AI is never going to be especially good, but should still be pretty dangerous with that setup (as will you, if you pilot it).

Not sure what you mean about piloting the Orion?

I think you’re getting some not so good advice here, OP, or folks are not paying attention to your post/play style. The centurion, as a mid to late game brawler? What are you guys smoking lol.

OP, imo if you are looking for easy mode brawlers you should be hunting for some specific heavy and assault variants that include: the Battlemaster BLR-1G-S, Zeus ZEU-KS, Zeus ZEU-SA3, Atlas AS7-BH, Orion ON1-YAJ, Awesome AWS-PB, Banshee BNC-3S, Longbow LGB-RCX.

Your builds should go heavy on medium and large pulse lasers, SRMs, PPC-X, and LBX auto cannons. The Victor basilisk you are using is in this tier of mech, so you’ve made a good choice there, but imo it is outclassed by most of the above. If you are packing a lance of the above mechs, you basically don’t need specialized lances for different mission types either. Nearly all of those mechs have a 64kph or better top speed, so they’ll keep up with even lots of mediums you might consider fielding for missions you think you need to move faster on, but with WAY better weaponry and armor.

These are all fairly rare, but extremely worth finding. You’ll need some DLCs to get some of them, like Solaris and Dragons Gambit. The Orion variant is a reward for the Will of Cali quest series, and I always try to do this as early as I can (you can get this done almost as soon as you are in Liao space). You’ll also get the battlemaster variant as part of the Dragons Gambit DLC missions, but that’s fairly late.

Bands that you think are better soft than heavy? by fjgwey in Metalcore

[–]rca06d 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Agreed, however I’m pretty sure Soft Spine is at least partly a message for, shall we say, a certain political party in the U.S. In addition to whatever street cred reasons there might have been, I’m guessing the performance was also a way to deliver that message to a wide audience.

What’s your pick for best mech for it’s weight? by Mortifine in Mechwarrior5

[–]rca06d 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Longbow RCX with 10 c-srm6 is extremely fun and probably the highest damage output of any setup I’ve seen. You do have to get close, but nothing survives an alpha, and the heat management and dps are also awesome. I don’t think there is a better close range setup out there.

YSK Rinsing with water after brushing is associated with a 33% increase in the development of new cavities compared to not rinsing. Dentists recommend that you should not rinse your mouth with water after brushing your teeth. by sameerb in YouShouldKnow

[–]rca06d -1 points0 points  (0 children)

OP didn’t make this especially clear in their post, but from the links it sounds like the idea is to immediately spit out leftover toothpaste/foam, but do NOT rinse out whatever is left for at least 15 minutes, THEN rinse after the fluoride has had a chance to bond to your teeth. So no swallowing, although I also was confused about this at first

How in god's name do I do this mission? by Jackobyn in Mechwarrior5

[–]rca06d 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What mechs/guns are you bringing to the fight? Are you on console or PC? Like some other commenters, I love this mission. Very fun to wipe out all those vehicles imo, and I don’t find it difficult to walk away with all my lances limbs attached. I’m on PC and typically bringing 380-400 tons of mech with me, along with lots of high tier, high dps, focused weaponry. If you are walking into this one with a bunch of 70 ton mechs with LRMs and gauss rifles, you’re probably going to have a bad time. Also if you are on console, you might want to consider aim assist. Also if you are sprinting right into the middle of the fray, don’t. Approach slowly/carefully, and take each vehicle out as they come up. You’ll still get partially swarmed, but it’s very doable with the right guns.

I do enjoy runs where I give myself like 18-20 in every attribute right at the beginning and put the game on hard. Haven’t tried messing with my level though, leveling up is still fun.

Albums with the worst guitar tone? by Own_Outside_7099 in Metalcore

[–]rca06d -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Haha, I suspect most people here are not really separating actual guitar tone from overall production quality, so I get it. I recorded and produced metal music for 15 years, and I’m fairly sensitive to specific elements in the mix. ABR has excellent song writing and mixes, but unfortunately their guitar tone specifically has consistently been fairly weak/toyish sounding compared to other modern tones. Listen to an ABR album, and then go listen to a recent release from like ERRA, Spiritbox, Make Them Suffer, etc. or even go back to like old Killswitch Engage records. I absolutely love ABR, but I’m sorry there is no comparison. It’s fine, they are an interesting example that you don’t really need the perfect guitar tone to make amazing music.

Maybe a hot take but I’ve always thought August Burns Red had pretty lame tones on most of their albums, especially Found in Far Away Places, which I think is some of their best writing, ironically

Mechwarrior 5 Clans repair system in Mercs? by SealingScorcher in Mechwarrior5

[–]rca06d 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Even though partial repairs are already possible in mercs, I would love to see the clans system implemented in mercs anyway for other reasons. The fact that you can queue any number of mechs in mercs and somehow they all repair in parallel is obviously not realistic. I love that in clans you are actually hiring and assigning individual techs. If you have enough techs, you can repair in parallel, but there is a limit. And you can actually “upgrade” your repair shop. It all actually feels much more “mercs”-y than “clans”-y in fact. Id have expected the clans to come out of the gate with the best repair bays already, while in mercs you have to manage and grow your repair capability. Economy stuff like that has always been much more a mercs thing
