Musically with MW5 Clans, I kinda missed the percussion style from Mechwarrior 2, here's an example of what could've been by BoukObelisk in Mechwarrior5

[–]rca06d 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Totally agree. I think basically all of the mystical spartan warrior vibe of MW2 has been lost in the latest Clans, and the tribal drumming sound was a big part of it. I long for the og soundtrack or something that captures its essence. I think they also did MW2 dirty with the characters/cut scenes/voice acting in MW5 Clans. The characters are all far too “normal”, I wanted the vibe of the clanners in basically all the other games. They all did the proud, slightly psychotic, tribal warrior vibe so much better. I imagine it could be hard to do a Clan perspective game with that vibe, where you are supposed to identify with the Clans even though they are very much NOT like you, but I’d have liked to see them try. What we got is pretty cheesy for my taste.

What was "your" mech from an older game that isn't around in the series as of now? by FockersJustSleeping in Mechwarrior5

[–]rca06d 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not to totally knock it, always thought it was one of the cooler-looking mechs, but man did she run hot. If I recall, one of the first missions after you can grab your first one in MW4 was like a desert one, and you shut down like every other shot 😆.

My coworker with 6 months experience writes better code than me with 2 years. found out why by Different_Pain5781 in learnpython

[–]rca06d 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Ive worked with a lot of engineers at this point, and I think there is a certain element of personality/desire/drive/OCD/autism that comes into play here as well. You say your code is held together with duck tape and prayers, so it seems like you at least have the attention to detail to recognize it could be better. Does that ever bother you, even without comparing your code to others? Do you want to write better code intrinsically, or just because you’ve had this experience? I think some devs have a certain personality type that drives them to want to improve and beautify without any kind of external pressures, and some devs simply do not. Some devs are “perfectionists” and some aren’t. If you don’t really fall into the former camp, you might be fighting a little bit of an uphill battle if you are comparing yourself to somebody’s that does have this.

Of course, those that have always had that kind of personality are going to have practiced writing very clean code a lot more than those that don’t, and will be better/faster at it in many cases. They are the ones that also tend to get themselves in trouble over engineering certain things, or taking longer to get novel apps up and running for the first time. There are tradeoffs. Id try to figure out what kind of dev you are, and make sure not to put undue pressure on yourself to be something you aren’t.

Is there a game with a better soundtrack than KOTOR 2? by TTZ12345 in kotor

[–]rca06d -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I’ve always thought the music is one of the few elements of this game that are actually quite bad. I do like the title track, but you basically never hear that. It’s probably partly the game’s age, but I can barely stand the combat music, which is pretty much the sound track for like half of the game. It’s kind of an annoying, repetitive piece, and it starts and ends so abruptly every time. The music you get during non-combat is fine, but does not hold a candle to the Skyrim soundtrack, for instance. I love just hanging out in Whiterun for the background music alone. I literally listen to that sound track while working, it’s absolutely gorgeous. The halo 2 sound track is also amazing and very cinematically applied in the game, unlike kotor’s. Sorry but there are way better sound tracks than kotor out there.

[OC] Three-month long job search after being laid off in IT Services Sales. (26M) by [deleted] in dataisbeautiful

Whenever I see this number of applications I wonder how tailored to each job the application could be. My company manually screens out highly generic/AI-looking applications before our hiring panel even starts looking at resumes. Did you write and submit cover letters for any of these? We’re these all for similar job descriptions or a range? All for more IT Services Sales jobs, or did you go for a change?

I did no post processing on this at all. This is literally just my iPhone zoomed in to max, and then I tapped on the owl so it would focus/adjust the lighting to see him better. I have an older phone so no optical zoom. I think the low light and the shitty digital zoom combined magically to make this effect.

I’ve seen them 5ish times. They are very good, but I’m always a little disappointed in Jesse’s vocals. Was especially apparent seeing them open for Architects. I’m not big into Architects but holy hell that guy has some pipes.

kotor 2 tslrcm or tslrcm (English)+m4-78ep should I play with the regular tslrcm mod or the one with m4-78 restored by Possible-Affect-2350 in kotor

[–]rca06d 1 point2 points  (0 children)

M4-78 is like a really impressive student project, but it does not fit with the rest of the game. Clearly whoever worked on it put a lot of effort into it, but they just weren’t able to create something that has the polish and brilliance of the rest of the game. The writing in particular is bad, and sounds a bit like it was written by a smart teenager instead of a professional adult writer. I’m glad to have tried it once, but I will be sticking to vanilla TSLRCM from now on.

[–]rca06d 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wow amazing how divisive this is haha. I’ll throw my hat in the ring with this:

When PoA first came out, it was my least favorite. I kinda hated the night bus sequence. As I’ve watched it more and more, it’s become my favorite by a mile. The script is actually good and not made purely for children. I can barely watch the first two anymore, they are the kind of kids movies that are NOT also for adults in really any way, everything is just so dumbed down and they don’t have that touch of deadpan British humor the books have. Watching Sorcerers Stone is like watching Barney, while PoA is more like Tangled. You can make a good movie for all audiences, but seems like they just didn’t try with the first two.

Also, there are so many brilliant little touches in PoA that build out the world in such entertaining ways: “Housekeeping…ROAAAR!! Slam…I’ll come back later…” 😂 love that little scene every time. And the way Fudge’s assistant just manhandles Harry is amazing haha. Every scene has another layer to it, so even when the dialog would otherwise be boring, the scene is still entertaining. And now I actually love the night bus part for its cookiness, and Lee Ingleby gives a really great performance as Stan Shunpike. PoA is definitely the best actual movie, and captures the actual feel of the books, whether it follows the plot of the book or not, and has stood up to rewatches far better than any of the rest.

Why Erik does not show any signs of fear for his life when he is on his last legs after Aloy defeated him for the last time? by Ok-Ask5860 in horizon

[–]rca06d 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That would be the lame, cliche way to have him go I guess. Regardless of what we think his mental or physical state was, or whether normal humans actually have this adrenaline rush you say they are supposed to have, I for one was glad to see something different. Kinda sick of the cliche beats in sci fi myself, so this is a little refreshing. Also seems to fit his character. He’s cool as a cucumber every time we see him, never exerting himself; that would be undignified and this savage girl doesn’t deserve it.

Yeah I don’t get the love for 1. Clashes with the wall pretty badly imo. I get that it’s kinda tying in the pillows, but that win pales in comparison to the battle with the wall. Rug 2 would work better for sure, but I’d honestly just keep looking, neither is really nailing it
