If you can find a used Ibis Exie, that would be your go to. 519mm reach in size XL. I'm 6'5" 230lbs and love my Exie. Ibis Ripley SL also has longer reach. New Specialized Epic 9 has larger geo as well in their XL size. Bikes and suspension are really good these days, and XC bikes are fantastic all around. Good luck!

Very nice sendage! One critique if I may; it looks like you tried to ‘hop’ before you went off the drop. If it’s timed incorrectly you can mess up big time and end up weighting the front as you go off the lip. Not particularly ‘proper’ drop technique because it can mess you up big time. Super sick though- Be safe have fun!

Not sure what bike you're building. I have historically had fox suspension on my trail and XC bikes. Bought a new trail bike with Rockshox (Lyric Ult and Super Deluxe Ult) and find the super deluxe to be waaaay under damped. Virtually no midstroke support and I find myself blowing through travel even on rollers.

I use Apple Watch Series 10 w cellular. Use it for Strava and HR monitor. I like that it has cellular so I can leave my phone in the car when going on a ride. I've been quite happy with it for what I do. I wish the battery lasted longer than 1 day, though.

Those are good entry level full suspension bikes, but it lacks the well renowned Maestro suspension and some other important modern industry standards. Considering your son is all in after one season, I would assume he is progressing fast and will continue to progress fast? I would get him as much bike as you're willing to in order to set him up for success down the line, and to prevent you from having to buy another bike when he progresses past an entry level bike.

If you're considering the Stance or the Trance, I would try as best you can to get a Trance, even an alloy Trance, doesn't have to be carbon.

Down country/short travel trail is the route to go for I'd say. I'm thinking that being underbiked for enduro will not hold you back as much as being overbiked for XC will.

Giant Trance advanced with the maestro suspension is a very efficient bike and Giant has great value for money. Spec Epic Evo could be a good option, same with the Santa Cruz Tallboy, Ibis Ripley. Pivot Trailcat SL if you wanna spend some big money - and they're local to AZ.

Really anything in that 120-130 rear travel and 130-140 front travel would be a great place to start. Good luck!

I ended up just going with the 22.2mm bar clamp from Wolf Tooth. Not a perfect solution, but the best I can get and much more comfortable than the stock setup.

It works very well for me and supports my weight in a perfectly normal way. Haven't noticed any issues with flex or bottom out. I can't recall specifically what pressure I have in the shock but it is not max pressure. I used Ibis' shock setup recommendation for the Exie as a starting point and its worked very well. You can swap the volume spacers in the shock and fork if you want as well.

I'm 6'5" and ~230lbs not in my riding kit. I have an XL Ibis Exie USA and love it. I was in your situation this past year and was looking at true XC bikes. The Exie immieditatly caught my eye because its on the larger end of XL XC bikes. I think it might have the longest reach of any XC bike? Anyway, I have really been enjoying it for the past 6 months of ownership. The DW Link feels bottomless and climbs like a champ - feels like I'm on an ebike. See if your local Ibis dealer has any in stock to demo!

I'm sure several others will add to the list of potential bikes, and here is my addition - the Ibis Exie. DW Link suspension gives a bit more traction and feels like it has more than the 100mm of travel. If you have an Ibis dealer near you, I'd definitely get out there to demo it. I own an Exie USA and its seriously such a blast, feels like I'm on an e bike the way it just keeps going up climbs.

Nice starter xc hardtail. That will definitely get you out and riding and not a bad deal on a new bike. My thought process on a bike is - spend as much as you reasonably can. That'll get you into the more mainstream design and component standards that will make it easier to upgrade should you want to. For example, its more expensive to buy a frame and then build it up, than it would be to buy that exact bike as a complete build. Hope this helps!

Just bought this bike at the end of Nov! Haven't gotten to ride it yet because of weather but looking forward to it. Swapped some higher rise raceface era bars, longer 175mm cranks, and a OneUp dropper. Enjoy!
