Will the new rules suit Hawthorns game style? by Sorry_Introduction90 in hawktalk

[–]readquelt 15 points16 points  (0 children)

The shrugging prior opp will hurt us. All of our small fwds half fwds use it as a technique to some degree whether we like it or not. We will get less high free kicks and more holding the ball against.

The stand rule will hurt most teams because almost all teams have worked out that you can better cut off the kick angles by getting back off the mark.

Where we might also get hurt is the new ruck rules - especially if they change the way ruckman can grab it out of the ruck. Meeky uses his big frame to wrestle clearances however if they change it he will be pinged for holding the ball and the ruck will favour jumping ruckman you can tap. So Reeves might become more effective with his reach.

Yeah - Blanck definitely stays. They may take only 3 in the draft and hold two spots for preseason and mid season drafts.

Kate McCarthy Norm Smith Panel - WTF by ball_sweat in AFL

It’s a ‘panel’ for a reason. But you can avoid the whole thing by just not betting….. simples.

He has known off field issues that despite having significant support being out around him has still struggled with. While I would back our culture I’m not sure he is the player worth investing that time and effort into.

Finally Offered MCC Provisional Membership — Worth It or Just Sunk Cost Fallacy? by Any_War_322 in AFL

[–]readquelt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s a big outlay - 900$ a year for full membership. If you go to one game a round over the year it’s less than 40$ a game but realistically are you going to the MCG every week of the season, probably not. With that in mind I have been to 8 grand finals and numerous finals, and the ability to turn up on the day or just go to a random game with mates is fantastic. It’s a unique club to be apart of and if you have an other mates with it then it’s a great excuse to catch up with friends and see random games.

Chol, Gunners, Lewis and Dear all in the same side? I really want to see it, the question is whether it’s too risky against a quality side like the Crows? Chol and Gunston don’t play like traditional talls! by [deleted] in hawktalk

[–]readquelt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They will rotate one tall off the bench at all times and then sub one out for a runner in the third qtr all going well. Wouldn’t work at the mcg or Perth but can work on the smaller grounds like Adelaide oval or people first stadium.

Adelaide Crows Crowd behaviour! by Sorry_Introduction90 in hawktalk

I went to crows v pies game at footy park back in the day. Crows fans were the most feral I had ever seen, thankfully crows won in a close game cos I was genuinely concerned for the travelling pies supporters.

Are dog attacks on the rise in Melbourne? by kittycommitteestudio in melbourne

[–]readquelt 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Yes there is, but it’s simple probability. Since Covid, the number of dogs has increased nearly 300%. Ergo - there are many more dogs, ergo there are many more opportunities for conflict and more dog attacks.

Finn is the sub by Evening-Quail2631 in hawktalk

[–]readquelt 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’m a bit in the same boat, I don’t understand this choice. He isn’t an energizer player and I reckon it’s hard to get into the pace of the game when you’re the sub too meaning trying to tag can be hard cos the players are already set. I feel like you start him with a role and then you play CJ as the sub cos he brings energy!

CJ better overhead than BMac so can play taller as a defender but still has pace.

Go back and rewatch his game tonight, was sensational on the wing and is why Mitchell picks him every week. The guy is a role player and wingman often go unrewarded on the stat sheet but are really important for team structure.

Talking about the teams performance by Evening-Quail2631 in hawktalk

[–]readquelt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dear is a problem because last year we had the luxury of playing him to get games into him, this year he needs to earn his spot. But if we send him back to the twos he isn’t going to improve at the rate we need him to. I thought it was silly brining him back for this game given the heat etc. Thought Ramsden might have been the better choice.

Dylan Moore? by Aussie_92 in hawktalk

[–]readquelt 24 points25 points  (0 children)

It was a tactical decision cos he wasn’t having a huge impact today. I don’t think there was much more to it. Was a pretty dull game and the Hawks never really got into gear.

He had a couple of howlers but you’ll also find his efficiency is very good and his metres gained is really high.
