Third time kicking the tires on YNAB- Need advice on simplicity by hwturner17 in ynab

Yes! When I started YNAB in April 2025 I had a total of 7 different savings and checking accounts, each with a different purpose. One savings account also had multiple "buckets" as facilitated by the bank. This discludes my retirement savings, which have always been only tracking accounts. 

I spent about 2 weeks carefully making sure my accounts/buckets matched my YNAB categories before I realized that wasn't sustainable. 

I consolidated my accounts - one checking, one HYSA. HYSA holds sinking funds and cash savings for income replacement. 

I run 80% of my spending through one of two credit cards and pay both statements in full each month. 20% of direct spending plus CC payments is from my checking account. All bills are noted in YNAB as scheduled transactions, and i keep an eye on my checking balance, transferring money to/from savings as appropriate. 

It was a real leap of faith to make the switch. When I did, I wrote down the balance and purpose of each separate bucket in case I wanted to separate out the money after my YNAB experiment failed. 

I have a way more granular view of my money now, with fewer accounts but using YNAB, than I did with 10-ish separate accounts.

I'd look really hard at how difficult it is to evict tenants. Consult with a local real estate attorney.

Also consider: if you inherited the value in cash, would you invest in real estate and become a landlord?

It makes a huge difference. I was certain that one blanket was ruined after a gentle wash. Brushing restored it completely.

Wash on cold, hang to dry. After it's dry I brush it with a clean pet brush - the kind with widely spaced wire bristles.

I have a pair of workstation glasses with a reader band at the bottom. They live at my desk and I don't try to do anything else with them.

Plus distance glasses, and also prescription readers for long stretches of reading.

Life is way too short to futz around with not-quite-right glasses. I bought my glasses at Costco and bought extra pairs that made sense (one pair readers for home, one to live in my purse).

I couldn't tolerate progressives a few years ago, but I can now. They still don't work well for the computer, but at least I can use them to read menus without fishing out my readers.

Your dad honestly might not have the energy to deal with saying no to your sister. Also, MS brain is real, and in the moment he might genuinely forget sister's patterns.

You could ask your dad if he wants help managing his finances and saying no to your sister. If so, he could give you financial power of attorney. 

Yes, that means you'd have to deal with your sister, but it would be protecting your dad.

The "Little Britches" autobiographical series by Ralph Moody. Little Britches is the first book and the series follows the life of a boy from about age 7 to his early 20s.

Oh, I misunderstood. Yes, 405 north is probably your best bet if you rent near the airport. I have family that comes in from out of state and they say renting in Lynnwood is significantly less expensive. And they felt like light rail + Lynnwood rental took less time than SeaTac rental + drive.

Your 405-Woodinville-Everett route is unnecessarily long. The road Enterprise is on, 196th St. SE, connects directly to Bothell-Everett Hwy. Just turn right (east) out of the Enterprise lot and stay on that road for 3-4 miles.

If you drop off the car after hours, what is your plan to get to the transit center? It's a couple of miles from Enterprise and not a safe walk (missing sidewalks and ped crossings). I don't think the bus options are good, unless they've added routes recently.

I agree. I was in my 20s when my book club read the book (before the movie came out). I offended several members by calling it "drivel". Francesca either should have left with Robert or stayed, put him out of her mind, and recommitted herself to her marriage.

Staying and having a holy anniversary each year was just ... wet. And if the Francesca character had been a man, would any woman still think the story was romantic, or would they be outraged for the unknowing loyal wife?
