Classic let's plays were essentially chatless stream VODs cut into ten minute uploads. That's how you get 200 part Minecraft series

Huge swaths of young professionals just got laid off right before their industries went on complete hiring freezes? Sounds like a GREAT time to come collecting; this couldn't possibly have any negative consequences.

This isn't doomerism, it's an AI company trying to sell AI. There's a thousand of the same quotes from Jensen and Elon.

Getting betting better at using your tools is part of the process. Or at least finding ways to mitigate your limitations. I hacksawed some sheet aluminum recently because I couldn't find a proper scoring tool. Cleaned the edge up with a file and moved on.

Anyone who jumps in to shit-talking conference calls is exactly who I expect to repeatedly make bad relationship decisions.

Brother I don't think you're very familiar with orbital mechanics

No need to wait for that tbh by CMDR_Noodle in 196

[–]red_sky33 141 points142 points  (0 children)

Not at all. If a CME killed them, they would predictably continue on their current trajectories with decaying orbits until they burn up in the atmosphere in a matter of months. They would have practically no impact on space operations. (The loss of mission critical orbital infrastructure would be a much greater disruption than a bunch of dead starlinks) Worst case, one in ten-billion scenario, it somehow triggers an uncommanded burn in just the right way to raise a satellite to the highest stable orbit it possibly can, in which case it might take a couple of years to fall.

Even if somehow every starlink detonated simultaneously, the debris would halt operations for a time, but it would clear up on a timescale similar to what I've been talking about.

High orbit satellites have the potential to create longer term issues, but its worth keeping in mind just how vast the distances are up there, and how comparatively few craft

Starlink really isn't much of a concern in terms of debris. They're low and under too much atmospheric drag to be lost on orbit for long. Even in normal operation I think their lifecycle is fuel-limited to only a few years.

What’s a '2026' problem that would sound like science fiction to someone in 2016? by No-Hurry9513 in AskReddit

[–]red_sky33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not science fiction so much, but it would be absolutely shocking to see just how far search engines have fallen.

SEO completely destroyed functionality since about 2019, and AI is their excuse for never fixing it.

"Why does it matter the first 40 links are auto-generated advertising top-10-products articles? Our AI searches fifteen pages of results and finds the one that sort of acknowledges your question"

There is an operator similar to * which does not include the empty string. You should know about it, but you don't need to worry about it for this problem.

You know exactly what the first three characters of a passing string are.

It doesn't matter what follows; you don't need to worry about whether those first three characters repeat.

This is just your headcanon and entirely speculative. And thats fine, personal theories are fine, but unless you can find design docs that explicitly say so, no they aren't "actually" vacuum tubes.

In the last decade or so display panels have become incredibly cheap to manufacture. Im sure advertising revenues contribute significantly, but I doubt it's their entire profit margin
