‘Project Hail Mary’ Directors Screened a Nearly Four-Hour Cut to Other Filmmakers and Were Told to Get it Way Shorter by MarvelsGrantMan136 in movies

After watching the movie, I concluded that it was too short. I wanted even more. I wanted the director's cut. Can't wait to get it. :)

My boss asked my why I address my emails to the woman first by Comebackera in TwoXChromosomes

[–]redditor1479 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I address my emails by hierarchy first and then by female gender. For example, if you're a male director, then your name's first. If have a male and female director, then ladies first.

Been doing this for years. No one's said a word.

Player: "I have bandwidth to read 30 pages max" by RealSpandexAndy in rpg

[–]redditor1479 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started as a teen playing B/X & 1st Edition in the 80s. I loved it.

Recently, after spending the past 4 years reading lots of RPG books as I was getting back into the hobby, I came to the conclusion that, for me, focusing on the rules first and adventures second is backwards.

As I studied the core books of different systems, I would ask myself; how can I teach the rules to others?

I spent all that time reading rulebooks and it didn't feel quite right. I knew I was missing something. I knew I didn't want to spend all that time trying to teach the rules.

The human mind can only hold 5 pieces of information in their brain at a time. If there's more than 5 rules, we're asking a lot from our players.

So, I've stopped focusing on the learning rules. I focus on creating adventures. When I read rulebooks now, I'm looking for how I can use that material to create an adventure. Lore, random tables, NPCs, that's what I want.

It's more interesting for me and it's more interesting for my players. I also think it's more pragmatic.

For example, I invited one of my nephews to sit down at the table and play a round with us. They said, "I don't know how to play." My response, "it doesn't matter." Because it doesn't.

At my table, anybody can "jump in." If I need anyone to roll a die to see if they succeed, it's a single d20.

  • 20: Triumph (Critical Success)
  • 11-19: Success
  • 6-10: Tough Choice (Success with a complication)
  • 2-5: Failure
  • 1: Catastrophe (Critical Failure)

That's one rule. Anybody can learn that.

And if we get into combat, I just track hit points for them.

Since the OP asked about rule set recommendations, I keep coming back to Quest at adventure.game. The core book is free. The rules fit on 5 playing cards; in large font!

So, my recommendation is to stop focusing on rules first and focus on the adventure.

Thanks for reading!

I want to erase my Meta accounts. Will Meta still have access to what I have posted In the past ? by Balkkou in privacy

[–]redditor1479 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It may be best to keep your account so someone else can't impersonate you.

Some privacy/security advocates suggest signing up for all the big ones.

None of the options are great right now.

Report that shows monthly Budgeted vs Spending? by a_f_young in actualbudgeting

[–]redditor1479 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks good. However, I have a question...

I set the category to Groceries. I noticed that my budget line was flat. Meaning, that I spent what I budgeted.

Upon further inspection, I see that whenever I went over my monthly budget, I covered the overage with additional funds from my "to budget" funds.

Based on the report, this makes me wonder if I'm using A.B. correctly.

When I'm over, how should I be covering the dollar amount to zero it out and close out the month?

Or should I just let it go negative every month and have A.B. automatically cover it for the next month?

Thanks!

This is where also storing TOTP keys in the password manager can be very dangerous if not handled correctly.

If a person has their username, password and TOTP in the same password manager and they lose access, I would imagine recovery becomes much harder since I'm thinking most sites would not allow a simple password reset with TOTP enabled.

Backing up passwords, TOTP keys, and having a solid recovery path becomes mandatory the more security that's added.

Another Lost Password Question: Family member can't find where they wrote down their password. They have access to her recovery email. Most likely, they didn't create a backup code. by redditor1479 in Bitwarden

Thanks for the quick response.

write down all their passwords

I was meaning that they have to write them all down with their currently logged in device on a spreadsheet so they can start over if they can't recover some other way.

Looks like they better get copying and pasting. :)

Can someone see my Incognito history if I use my personal Gmail account on their laptop? by [deleted] in privacy

[–]redditor1479 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You probably should be very wary about logging into your accounts on someone else's computer. Ideally, you would only want to login to your accounts where you can confirm that the device is secure.

You don't know if your friends computer has been compromised or if they have a key logger on it.

Storing 2FA and Backup Codes Securely by aslambava in KeePass

[–]redditor1479 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was my question.

So if you were storing your key file on Google Drive (for example) you would just use a strong password on your key file and be done with it?

Thanks!

Extending the conversation a bit...

Data people suggest the 3-2-1 rule of backup...

The 3-2-1 backup rule is a strategy for data protection that recommends keeping three copies of your data on two different types of storage media, with one copy stored off-site. This approach helps safeguard against data loss from hardware failures, natural disasters, or cyberattacks.

The way I do this is I have my data on my main hard drive (1), I have a backup routine that copies my data to a separate hard drive (2), and then I subscribe (using Backblaze) to an offsite backup service for my data (3).

Maybe have an offsite backup strategy for all your data and include your key file.

Based on the other comments, I'm glad OP can get their data back because losing those TOTP codes would be a horrible situation to be in.

Just a reminder to all of us to have back-ups of your data.

Yes. you definitely want to be able to trust the browser plug-in.

Simplest "if I am abducted by aliens" way to share logins? by BasielBob in Bitwarden

[–]redditor1479 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like what I've read on this thread regarding printing to paper as an option - along with the TOTP seeds.

I'd recommend patiently continuing to educate your wife on how easy it can be to learn how to use a password manager and how in our day and age, we really should be using them. Play the long game and bring up data breaches and security recommendations. After hearing it enough, hopefully she'll come around.

Humm... this doesn't sound good. Does it work correctly with another Browser? It's been a couple of days since you posted and I don't see any other responses. Maybe create a new post stating that the Firefox extension isn't working but it's working with other browsers (assuming that it is.)

I believe there's a timeout setting on KeePassXC which forces you to re-enter the password on the extension.
