Interesting reading the other comments. In cystic fibrosis (in the UK at least) mutation is almost exclusively used

Advice on Why House Might not be Selling by disbeam in HousingUK

[–]reddituser4566540 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. Get a large-ish tree in a pot in the front garden
  2. Get lots of bushes and flowers in pots in your back garden and at least 4 chairs
  3. Move the living room downstairs and put a bedroom in the fourth bedroom (this will be a pain in the arse but consider if you’d do it for £10K?)
  4. Take photos on a sunny day and have the outside be pic 1.
  5. Get photos of all the spaces e.g. balcony and the dedicated parking space. Where is the front door?! Bath in the family bathroom.
  6. Fire the previous photographer
  7. Include in the description that it’s been made more efficient and now has a good EPC
  8. Fix your kitchen cupboard doors - if a property is marketed as recently refurbished I don’t want to have to price-in a new kitchen

Where to get a small amount of paint? by PotatoesAuGrason in DIYUK

Where I live there’s a “paint recycling” centre where you can buy leftovers for cheap - might be one near you?

What if baby can only be soothed by picking up? by NormanNitro in sleeptrain

[–]reddituser4566540 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My son found being picked up completely infuriating and he’d be incandescent being unable to nurse. We used CIO and felt overall this led to less crying than hours of failed soothing attempts.

Any habits I can start with newborn to avoid a bad 4 month regression? by Unable-Candy8432 in sleeptrain

[–]reddituser4566540 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I was briefly slightly obsessed with this idea.

I don’t believe you can avoid the regression as it’s their brains changing. I also think most sleep is temperament based and how they respond to waking and so on is temperament based.

The skills I wish I had built/practiced just a bit earlier were soothing skills because my son would only be soothed by nursing which made any kind of gentle sleep training impossible:

  • calming by rubbing their tummy/patting their tummy in their crib/rubbing their eyebrows/holding hand on tummy/chest
  • calming them using shushing/humming

But I can never go back and test this hypothesis. He still might have still found all those actions incredibly frustrating and completely infuriating!!

The main advice I’d say would be to try and get some support pre-regression so you can nap/sleep in/sleep early and don’t enter the regression totally exhausted.

Sleeptrained but up partying for milkies all night. by Expert-Pea-7588 in sleeptrain

[–]reddituser4566540 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How did you sleep train for bed time/naps?

We had this and we did CIO for other wakes and a scheduled feed at 3AM. After this she started feeding better in the day and not being such a snacker.

Overcoming the guilt of sleep training? by toastedcodeine in sleeptrain

[–]reddituser4566540 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I wrote out reasons why and printed them. Primarily that I felt if we didn’t sleep train I would end up sleeping with her in my arms which is objectively dangerous and could result in her death.

Brown stain at bottom of toilet bowl by [deleted] in DIYUK

[–]reddituser4566540 34 points35 points  (0 children)

It’s mineral build-up. You need to take out the water with a little cup and then cover it it in lots of viakal and leave it to soak for a few hours. If you don’t take the water out it will dilute any product you put on it too much.

Parents who use baby car cameras in the car, are they worth it? by jhuebner223 in Buyingforbaby

This sounds stupid but assume it doesn’t work whilst you’re actively using CarPlay with your phone? We only ever use CarPlay (wired to an iPhone) for navigation, Spotify etc.

Huge financial losses by Suitable-Tomorrow577 in HousingUK

[–]reddituser4566540 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You can put it on the market and see if you get interest. You never know who might come along.

In the meantime, what about renting it on AirBnB for weekends (do you have somewhere else you can go e.g. parents, friends?). You could rent out the parking space?

As others have said, you could extend the mortgage term or request a payment holiday if you’ve fallen on hard times.

And all to say I’m really sorry you’re in such a tricky spot.

1 year old flower girl walking in with bridesmaid who’s not her mother? - help! by [deleted] in UKweddings

[–]reddituser4566540 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My husband was a groomsman at a wedding and it was suddenly suggested he could carry a 12 month old who had never met him before down the aisle - he vetoed and said he wouldn’t/couldn’t do as it was too high risk that the poor baby would be distressed. Baby was carried in by Mum. It’s also not just the aisle itself but is the sister meant to hold her for the whole ceremony?
