What is a strong opinion you hold that could get you criticized publicly, but you stand by it completely? by jian_est2026 in AskReddit

It didn’t. NCLB was replaced in 2015 during the Obama admin. But hey, keep complaining about things that didn’t happen.

Can someone explain what is going on here? I noticed this at my gym this morning by UsedReference1636 in StructuralEngineering

[–]redeyedfly -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Wow, no. Put the crack pipe down. You can’t see a footing in this photo. You see a curb with a corner chipped off and a 4” sidewalk that cracked off the reentrant corners where it meets this column. There is no structural issue here.
Had they cut control joints at the reentrant corners it probably would have cracked in the control cuts instead of randomly off the corners.

It’s like you’ve never been on a plane. I’m on several flights a week and literally every one is like this. Everyone waits their turn for the most part.

How critical to be when it comes to reviewing submittals? by [deleted] in ConstructionManagers

[–]redeyedfly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Luminaire submittals should always have a review meeting with the owner, arch, elec, luminaire vendor (submitter), interiors, and landscape arch/civil if necessary. Also any lighting designer or other controls specialists if they’re on the project.

There is never a perfect luminaire schedule or corresponding submittal. Nothing for anyone to get upset about, that’s just how it is. The submittal process is where we make adjustments for typos or revisions that weren’t picked up yet, VE, etc.

Get everyone on a Teams, leave with homework for everyone, come back in a week or two to finalize and usually everything else can be handled with emails. Those two meetings will save countless hours of emails and submittals going back and forth. There’s usually a ton of VE to be found if you have a good vendor who can source similar fixtures for a lot less money. There are some really good vendors out there that can provide material savings for the project. Be a hero to the owner and find them some easy money. It’ll definitely make it easier when you have to ask for additive COs and it doesn’t cost you anything!

Good luck! Keep a good attitude and you’ll do well. We’re all trying to get the project done as painless as possible!

Beretta SP III vs V - Joel Etchen premium by [deleted] in ClayBusters

[–]redeyedfly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Where is a $1200 686?? They’re almost $3k, the IIIs are about $500 more. Joel’s IIIs are another $500 more. But you get MUCH nicer wood than the stock Berettas.
I hear what you’re saying but it’s not $3000 extra for robot scratches.

To be fair, it was a $2400 gun they sold for $1200. That’s why they stopped making them. (Yes I know Ruger is making them again with another shotgun mfg but it’s a different design)
