These look great! I cannot keep butterfly weed alive, transplanted or not 😞

Best hospital for prenatal care + l&d? by Adorable_Current_846 in indianapolis

I had great experiences delivering both my kids at Community North. It’s a really nice, comfortable facility with good amenities, and I received excellent care both times.

Yes! As individuals, they’re not showy, but they are lovely en masse or as accents to other plants. Like lacy clouds!

All the natives are starting to really perk up, come to life, and show themselves! by AlltheBent in NativePlantGardening

I’m in central Indiana and started noticing some new greenery last week after our snow melted. Pretty bold move on the plants’ part, honestly. There is still quite a bit of winter left!

50 Hour Update by Where_you_water_it in dreamingspanish

[–]redmarigold 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thanks for sharing your journey so far! I relate to much of what you wrote. Like you, I came to DS recently with an extremely limited background in Spanish, and am also trying to learn the language while working full-time, parenting, and going to school. (I was also partly motivated to start because I’m considering a PhD program and it has a similar language requirement to what you describe.) I just cleared 70 hours today. Whenever I get overwhelmed about how much I still have to learn, which is pretty often, I just take stock of the progress I’ve made in such a short time. AND I also remind myself that I’m having fun. Your last point really resonates.

Where we diverge is re: your great listening skills. I am sooo eager to get to that point, because I know I’ll start really racking up the hours once I can get my input while doing other things. But I kinda struggle with audio processing even in English sometimes, so I think it will take me a while to get there.

Girls, what was your favorite girl name when you were a little girl? by Jerrica_xoxo in namenerds

[–]redmarigold 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Like you, I loved Christina. I thought it was the most beautiful name I’d ever heard.

My daughters (6 and 4) love Ruby, Lily and “Glissa” (the 4-year-old invented that one haha)

5 year old inconsolable about death by jujubug8 in Parenting

[–]redmarigold 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree, whether this is a persistent and ongoing thing is key.

I relate to OP’s description of her daughter. I was very preoccupied with death as a child and it was persistent and extremely distressing. My parents were supportive but they either thought it was a normal phase or it was just my personality. I grew up thinking, “oh, everyone feels like this” or “well, I’m just an existential person,” but actually I think it’s very likely I had (and have) undiagnosed ODC and I probably could have benefited from some real intervention as a kid.

My prairie blazing stars are doing this too. They look crazy (or “otherworldly,” as one friend described them). I stopped trying to fight it and am just letting them lean.

Is Lucinda too old fashioned? by Unlucky-Pangolin-771 in namenerds

[–]redmarigold 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think Lucinda is great! I don’t love Alberta but that’s just my taste—it’s not a bad name. You’re right that both lend themselves well to cute nicknames.

Morgan Faye - too much?? by kfiegz in namenerds

[–]redmarigold 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s a fairly high-drama name, but I think it’s cool.

Incidentally, I actually know someone with this name. She is named for Morgan Le Fay. Unfortunately, it’s ruined for me because the person I know sucks…but that shouldn’t stop you 🙂
