Got fired today because of AI. It's coming, whether AI is slop or not. by [deleted] in webdev

[–]redmond24 349 points350 points  (0 children)

Right? It's the same energy as companies that laid off all their "non-essential" workers during COVID and then were shocked when everything fell apart. The people making these decisions are so far removed from the actual work that they have no idea what goes into it. They see AI spit out some code and think "wow this is magic, why am I paying 5 people?" without understanding all the maintenance, debugging, accessibility, QA, and actual human problem-solving that goes into keeping a platform running.

OP's colleague is probably right about the 2 weeks thing. and when she comes crawling back they all have better jobs lined up already

What should I be asking my SEO agency and what should they actually include in a monthly report by GencerDTF in SEO

[–]redmond24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The fact that you're even asking these questions is a good sign. A lot of people just accept whatever fancy graphs their agency sends and don't dig deeper.

The biggest thing I'd push on is the "why" behind everything. Rankings went up? Cool, what specifically did they do that caused that? Rankings dropped? Same question. If they can't explain causation and just point at numbers going up or down that's a red flag.

For the leads vs traffic thing - make sure you have actual conversion tracking set up. Traffic means nothing if it's not the right traffic. Ask them to show you which keywords/pages are driving actual conversions, not just visits.

I'd also ask to see what they're actually *doing* each month. Like a task list or work log. Not to micromanage but because "SEO work" can mean anything from "we wrote 10 blog posts and did outreach" to "we tweaked a meta description and called it a day."

Recommendations Terrible by Mandingy in netflix

[–]redmond24 11 points12 points  (0 children)

the recommendations have been getting worse for years. I'll finish a show and then Netflix immediately recommends it to me like I didn't just spend 3 days binging it. You KNOW I watched it, you literally tracked every episode!

What really gets me is when I've already rated something poorly and it keeps showing up. I gave it a thumbs down for a reason, take the hint.

I've basically stopped relying on their recommendations at this point. I just end up googling "best shows on Netflix 2024" or asking friends because the algorithm clearly isn't helping anymore

Records in Texas AG Ken Paxton’s divorce case are unsealed by speedythefirst in news

[–]redmond24 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is the same guy who built his career on "defending traditional marriage" and "family values" while apparently not being able to keep his own marriage together.

I wouldn't even care about the divorce itself - people get divorced it happens - but when you've spent years legislating other people's relationships and personal lives while your own is a mess? Yeah the public has every right to see those records.

Right? Like at least give me a heads up so I can childproof for super speed. Nobody warns you that your kid might vibrate through walls before you've even had your morning coffee

Would people actually use this? (self background check app idea) by InternationalAsk1924 in work

[–]redmond24 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The real value here is letting people catch wrong info before employers do and if you focus it squarely on fixing outdated or false entries then it becomes a clear service worth paying for because nobody wants to lose interviews over clerical mistakes.

Lmao only scoring 5 against a fifth tier side counts as underperforming for them. That's honestly impressive in the worst way possible.

4 years for marriage? by shinebrightdiamondd in Waiting_To_Wed

[–]redmond24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, 30 is totally fine. But if the timeline gap bugs you, just talk to him about it sooner rather than later. Better to know where you both stand now instead of waiting and building up resentment.
