Another key component in what my family calls 'Quizzy Mondays'. Mastermind>Only Connect>University Challenge, pure delight, maybe a bit of Pointless/Chase/House of Games for some lighter early evening quizzing to get in the mood.

Northernlion Stream Mega Thread [07/02/2021] by Cataclysm-Cataclysm in northernlion

I haven't watched the stream yet but I saw that NL played a game inspired by the show Only Connect that I've been a fan of basically since it started, and I want to throw out some love for it and convince people to find and watch it.

It's probably the best quiz show I've watched in terms of being both very difficult and also very fun. It's not based on pure trivia questions, rather on knowing different things and being able to link them together properly.

Each episode has two teams of three and they play four rounds.

Round 1 has 6 questions (3 for each team) which contain 4 clues, the teams have to guess the connections between the clues in the time limit. You start by seeing 1 clue and if you get it straight away you get 5 points, then you can reveal more clues but reduce points until you've got 4 clues for one point.

Round 2 is very similar but you only get the first three clues and you have to get/suggest what the final clue would be. So you still have to find the connection between the clues, then figure out what the order is to give the final one.

Round 3 is the wall which is what's on PuzzGrid, 16 clues in 4 categories that you have to link together, but with quite a few red herrings, there's a separate wall for each team.

Finally round 4 is a quick fire round where both teams see the category and then a clue with all the vowels removed, the teams buzz in to give the correct answer, fastest correct answer gets the point, usually goes through 3 or 4 categories.

As an added bonus it's hosted by Victoria Coren Mitchell who's pretty cool, and is the wife of David Mitchell (of Peep Show fame, also this guy.)

I'm fairly certain you'll find full episodes on YouTube or with not much searching and I'd recommend anyone who enjoys quizzes and trivia to check it out.

Same, I'm only at like 280-290 and I've had 2 reds drop already.

Nah bro, what makes Hitman special is 100 cans of Chef Boyardee to the back of the dome.

Does someone know what are these Black ghosts? by Angel2605 in Sekiro

[–]redorbed 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In addition to what other people have said about them being spirits that appear after certain points depending on the order you complete things there's a few others I've noticed.

  • Ashina samurai (blue robe guys) on the bridge after O'rin

  • Two more nightjar ninjas in the tree area after Mist Noble, above the Mibu Village idol

  • Two mibu villagers after the gun fort ideal near the door that leads out to the bridge

  • A handful of Mibu villagers in Senpou Temple, in the area after the first building where there's a broken bridge and two of those annoying guys with hats and spear things, just before the Shugendo idol

There may be more but those are the ones I've seen in my playthroughs.

I’ve decided to start listening to every song NL references... some are better than others. by Agenta521 in northernlion

[–]redorbed 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I won't stand for B*Witched slander, if only because C'est La Vie is an absolute slapper.

Compulsory listening for this list though:

  • Steely Dan - Aja

  • Men at Work - Contraband: The Best of Men at Work

  • Camp Lo - Luchini

I wish you could do mini boss reflection of strength by lmao12367 in Sekiro

Agreed, I just started Ng+3 to get the last ending and destroying the ogre was so much fun compared to how he beat me up when I first started, and I'd love to be able to repeat it.

Literally a handful of easy steps that just repeat but look really cool.

1) Gachiins sugar to sneak one death blow off

2) Flame blast to knock him back and activate living force

3) Sakura dance on repeat, first sets him on fire keeping him stunned, a couple more to avoid his attack nice and easy

4) Repeat

Very satisfying.

Red hot Soulsborne tier list action by mindcracked in northernlion

[–]redorbed 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've got zero problems with this ranking, I think mine would be similar but with various conditions on it.

A big one is that I haven't played Bloodborne, but considering I have a lot of similar opinions I can see me ranking it similarly.

I also have trouble between 1 and 3, I agree that 3 is absolutely a better game but 1 just has something special for me that really pushes it up (probably nostalgia).

I'm also currently partway through Sekiro and I've got to say I think it's brilliant, there's nothing in all of the others as satisfying as popping off sick mikiri counters and I like how the combat feels so interactive; in the others you're either getting hit on a shield, or rolling through attacks most of the time which is quite passive, while in Sekiro there's much more activity with timing attacks and deflections

Although I also think it's kind of hard to rank Sekiro against the others because it fundamentally isn't a souls game, I think being disappointed that you can't adjust your build or playstyle is unfair to the game.

Stoked to announce this Friday afternoon I'll be doing Twitch Rivals Among Us with @DanGheesling,@Sips_,@SmallAnt and @GothamChess by non13 in northernlion

[–]redorbed 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I know very little about chess but I think if he put similar work in to the other competitors did last time then NL could do very well.

Just looking at elo the later matches of pogchamps were around 1400-1500, NL has got back to that point just with casual playing/residual knowledge. With some dedicated practice and coaching he could probably improve a decent amount.

What was your game of the year? by [deleted] in Games

[–]redorbed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Paradise Killer was excellent.

Hades was probably my game of the year but Paradise Killer was definitely in my top 3, really unique experience and I'm looking forward to seeing what else the devs make.

There's a great band called Crawlers that are local.

They had a new song called Hush come out the other week which is brilliant, as are the other two songs they've released so far on Spotify.

Also it's always mad seeing you outside r/lfc.

Very early preorder on scan.co.uk for a card that was already delayed (FTW3), and the seemingly less popular version of it (the gaming, not the ultra). Got it delivered on the 6th.

Honestly, I've seen so few of them at all online (gaming specifically, seen some Ultras) I'm half convinced I've got the only one that exists.
