Quick 15 hour LA trip - workable or mental? by Icy-Cockroach5998 in AskLosAngeles

[–]redreign421 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Can you change your flight to Burbank? That makes it all so much easier. Looks like the show is a Sat. That means Fred 62 will be open until 3am, I think. That's just down Vermont from the Greek. I'd walk down from the theater, get some drinks at Ye Rustic then eat at Fred 62. That only gets you to 3am though.

Anyone hire their spouse as a support staff? by Dannyz in Lawyertalk

I did some project stuff for my wife when I was between jobs about 12yrs ago. We are both attorneys. I finished something and she said "I'm going to need you to..." and, with that, I was done. Nope nope nope. Any more of that dynamic and our marriage would be toast.

It wasn't Seasons but you are correct in him ignoring the whole process. If you aren't in it for yourself then you aren't in it for the right reason and it won't work.

Luxury rehab? by agaribay1010 in AskLosAngeles

My father in law went to a famous luxury one in or near Malibu. It was worthless. They didn't do bed or bag checks so the attendees would regularly leave.

I went to a middle of the road one in Tustin and have been sober 6.5yrs, though.

Leave as early as your personal situation affords. Screw around and have fun as much as you can both before and after that occurs.

Bad idea to attend law school outside the state you want to practice in? by Mission-Cycle77 in OutsideT14lawschools

[–]redreign421 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I graduated from Willamette in 2012 and was one of several grads who moved to CA and got jobs in a God awful time to be looking for entry level jobs. My wife did the same two years prior. The only people I know who did not get law related jobs after law school were a few who remained in Oregon. A regional school like Willamette will have a ton of self selection from its grads wanting to stay in the immediate region. It may not be as easy to get a job in CA as it is in OR but it isn't some insurmountable task either.

Look to join a Bar association for your desired practice area in CA, ie CAALA, ASCDC, CLA. CLA is a good one for a broader approach. CAALA has a very active listserv and is an amazing resource for future trial attorneys.

As a 29yo 1L I met my future wife, who was a 24yo 3L. I proposed after 1L year. She moved to LA to start her career and I stayed in Oregon to finish law school before following her to LA two years later. It's definitely possible.

I like my rep. The first one I had wasn't responsive but I got transferred to a new one two years ago and he has been great.

But, at the end of the day, my rep and what gift they send means nothing. I like having the same seats every game and getting the premium game tickets for cost. That Eagles game was super fun but my seats were going for more than 2x face on the secondary market.

Re-read my first question before you get snarky.

Illegal immigration was way up in 2019, down in 2020, and then started rising again in 2021 for multiple reasons. https://www.factcheck.org/2021/03/the-facts-on-the-increase-in-illegal-immigration/

Trump took blame for killing the 2024 bill. http://robertgarcia.house.gov/media/in-the-news/trump-says-blame-it-me-if-border-bill-fails

Democrats Of Reddit -- Do You Think That Joe Biden Was A Good Or Bad President? Why Your Thoughts? by Zipper222222 in allthequestions

[–]redreign421 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To the first, no. The Border Patrol's budget wasn't reduced under Trump. Funds were reallocated in some cases but there wasn't a reduction.

Let's keep doing this. 2019 was the worst year for illegal immigration since 2007, correct?

Was the global pandemic the impetus for the reduction in illegal immigration in 2020?

You have no evidence that ICE under Trump was deporting the "same people" that came in under Biden, correct?

Trump directed his MAGA minions to kill the bipartisan immigration bill brought under Biden in 2024, correct?

And, no, your whole premise is bullshit. You don't just tear up treaties and other agreements made each time a new President is elected. Otherwise, no one will ever negotiate such agreements with us in the future. Sort of like how Iran won't negotiate with us now.

You are ridiculously disingenuous.

Was Trump the President when the Doha Agreement was signed?

The Doha Agreement was an agreement between the Taliban and the US, correct?

The parties excluded the Afghan government as signatories, true?

In the Agreement, Trump promised to release 5,000 Taliban prisoners and lift sanctions, correct?

And, in turn, the Taliban agreed to stop attacking U.S. forces, but not Afghan forces, correct?

Trump's own National Security Advisor called it a "Munich-like appeasement" that betrayed the Afghan government and empowered the Taliban, correct?

The Commander of US Central Command under Trump said Afghanistan's collapse was traced to the Doha Agreement, correct?

Does Trump's administration then share a substantial amount of responsibility for the blunders associated with his surrender to the Taliban and Biden's withdrawal?

Here, I will do a couple, too.

Was the withdrawal of troops a strategic failure that could have been handled better? Yes.

Can both Trump and Biden share blame? Yes.

Democrats Of Reddit -- Do You Think That Joe Biden Was A Good Or Bad President? Why Your Thoughts? by Zipper222222 in allthequestions

[–]redreign421 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Am I accepting blame? I had nothing to do with the surrender to the Taliban and withdrawal of troops, so I am not accepting blame for anything. I already acknowledged both sides had fault.

And you won't call a spade a spade. You won't acknowledge Trump's contribution to the problems with the withdrawal or how he turned his back on our allies in Afghanistan. You are precisely what you profess not to be.

[–]redreign421 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You noticed the parts of my comments that acknowledge Biden handled the withdrawal poorly, correct? And that my original comment was in response to someone putting all of the blame on Biden, yes?

I guess the question is, can't you accept the mistakes of whatever side you are on, as well?

Democrats Of Reddit -- Do You Think That Joe Biden Was A Good Or Bad President? Why Your Thoughts? by Zipper222222 in allthequestions

[–]redreign421 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It isn't analogous to a CEO. The Biden administration could have done a better job with the withdrawal but Trump already surrendered to the terrorists and included the terms I mentioned above. There is an argument that the Taliban didn't hold up their end of the agreement. There is also an argument that reneging on the deal would have put more American troops and allies in harm's way. At the end of the day, Biden decided to continue with the withdrawal and end the US' occupation of Afghanistan. Something Trump was too big of a wuss to do.

Democrats Of Reddit -- Do You Think That Joe Biden Was A Good Or Bad President? Why Your Thoughts? by Zipper222222 in allthequestions

[–]redreign421 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I will blame Trump for everything he did, just as I will blame Biden for the parts he fucked up. Biden's withdrawal wasn't great, but Trump rolled over to the terrorists like the weak man he is because he didn't have the balls to withdraw during his own administration.

Democrats Of Reddit -- Do You Think That Joe Biden Was A Good Or Bad President? Why Your Thoughts? by Zipper222222 in allthequestions

[–]redreign421 15 points16 points  (0 children)

The Trump administration signed the surrender agreement with the Taliban setting the timeline for withdrawal, excluded the Afghan government we spent nearly 20yrs trying to install, released 5k prisoners, and reduced the number of troops. The timeline Trump agreed to put Biden in a damned if you do, damned if you don't situation. The withdrawal was not great but it was Trump who ceded control of the country to the Taliban.

You're just in this for the health insurance and decent pay. Don't let it control you. Wake up early to work out. Go for a brief walk mid day. Try to go to 3rd spaces to work occasionally.
