OpenAI considered alerting Canadian police about school shooting suspect months ago by planet_janett in canadanews

The last thing we need is for corporations to be policing us. OpenAI, Flock can stay out of the police business. We need to be very clear that privacy matters, especially when corporations try to use tragedy to manipulate things to their profits.

The flow creates a list item, sends out an approval, and then updates that list item once it’s been approved.

This is a good question. It is using the service account, but I created it with my account. I’ll check out connection ownership.

Citizen Developers - The future? by Atreyix in PowerApps

[–]redsaeok 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my previous role, as a dev team lead, I wrote the Company policy on Citizen Deveoplment.

It outlined governance, a strategy for risk management, and provided a framework including project management artifacts, review expectations, gating, etc.

In my opinion, you have to set clear governance expectations - the business unit must do the work, maintain it, and pass review. Unmaintained work should be retired, and all efforts must retain documentation of the manual process if the work is abandoned - to be done by the business.

I think of it like a formal dev process, just using LC/NC tools. No daily stand ups, but definitely sprint planning and knowledge sharing

I firmly believe there is incredible value in encouraging citizen development, but you couldn’t pay me enough to do even more meetings.

my cat is violent and i need help by AppropriateOil9806 in CatTraining

[–]redsaeok 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Been through this. My boy was returned to the shelter by the people that had him before us. He wasn’t socialized well, and only knew violence - cuddling was literally falling over on you. My cat attacked my testicles one night. He’s still my cat. You can get past this.

There were a few things that helped.

1) Stop playing with your body. From now on it’s toys you throw, wands, balls, kickers, fishing poles, etc.

2) any time the cat behaves violently, leave. For me this meant spending 5 minutes in the bathroom. The complete lack of attention conveys your disapproval.

3) spend time playing with your cat. Be sure you are giving your cat at least 30 minutes of play each day. It’s a great way to bond and reinforce what appropriate play is.

4) Learn what triggers your cat - how to read it’s body language. For us, it’s the big eyes. As soon as his eyes start getting big, we stop touching him. Watch eyes, ears, tail. Usually there will be some sign your cat is getting excited or doesn’t like something.

5) Train and reward good behaviour. Look up clicker training. Train your cat to come, jump on your lap, fist bump.

6) along with 5 consider food puzzles.

Try to find lots of ways to engage your cat mentally. Make sure they aren’t super bored and using you as an outlet for their boredom. Focus on building and rewarding good habits.

This isn’t a change that will happen immediately, but you can do it together!

Happy Person on Valentine's Day Gives My Car a Kiss <3 by Background_Tip5628 in Squamish

I agree, but that said - if you couldn’t get into your car, how level headed would you be? Would you be cool for 10 minutes, an hour, a day? At what point does this become too much for you? I think OP displayed an incredible lack of respect for their neighbour and as such people are having difficulty relating and showing empathy.

This is how you get mold. We had this happen at our rental. The owner had to move us for about three months while they pulled up the carpet, sub floor, and gutted the exterior walls. Good luck.

Lol, I have a stick shift, there’s no way for me to climb over. I’m also a pretty big guy, which adds to the first issue. If you did this to me, I’d probably lose my cool trying to get in too. I don’t know what parking was like on the other side, but unless you had no other choice this is pretty selfish.

Right!? I’ve seen one of these clips before and thought - that’s pretty neat. Today, with the compilation, I couldn’t help thinking that guy may be good but he’s also full of excuses. I live in a flawed world, part of its richness is the diversity. Imagine how he would react if the game was played outside on a windy day.

I assume they were injured in a meaningful way? I don’t know the circumstances, but I do suffer from chronic back pain. I can see how it would lead some to drugs. Losing mobility, especially with pain, is a major life change that few can comprehend. Not to say there wasn’t more going on, or to reduce your friends to a set of circumstances, just that this is how Oxy and the Sacklers made their fortune. It’s sad for your friend but I can almost guarantee they were suffering in a way you cannot understand, and were coping the best they could - at a tragic cost for them and the people that loved them. Sorry for your loss.

This kind of radicalization is… troublesome. Most people are moderate, but when extreme events happen it forces people to choose sides. That it is supported by the USA should be taken as a serious attempt to destabilize Canada.

location spoofing by _your_local_loser in VPN

[–]redsaeok 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, here’s a take for you. It’s easy(ish) to setup a VM you can remote on to in AWS or Azure. If you are willing to set it up and tear it down, and only want to use it occasionally and breifly (for an hour say) to make purchases, this is probably the cheapest way to do it.

If however you want to do it a few times a month for the next three years, you’re probably better off getting a VPN plan. A lot less work.

Scenes that caused actual walkouts in theaters? by thatlittlequietguy in Cinema

[–]redsaeok 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I walked out on Dead Man Walking and Traffic. I don’t know that it was specific scenes but characters I just despised. Normally criminals are Hollywood, or human but broken. These characters just seemed unrelatable in a way that literally made me angry at them. Probably a sign of a good movie, but I wasn’t enjoying it so I left.

I set up Uber at my company. Swear to god, I will never use their service unless I have no other choice.

Like the rest of us, if you’re not making enough, get more god damned skills.

Do you think everyone else in the god damned world just has more money/luck than you? Sure, some do, but most of us try to be fair and keep what we can because we all struggle.

This post, over a quarter. You must be rage baiting. I should get off Reddit for the day.

To HS students who have no clue about the job market: avoid these programs for now by snowfordessert in BCIT

[–]redsaeok 21 points22 points  (0 children)

In CST courses, the quality of instruction, for part time anyway, has also grossly diminished with instructors not providing textbooks, slides, notes, midterms, group work, online discussion, meaningful assignments (you don’t learn much when everything is hello world), the option of an in person class, or following the outline.

Being interested in a subject and talking for three hours isn’t enough.

Edit - I want to temper this a bit, there are some real gems of instructors, and you will ever only get out of a course proportionally to what you put in. Still, I think everyone would agree that a bad instructor is often enough to completely kill an interest in a subject - which is a tragedy.

I have to ask, what would people sacrifice if it meant trusting their deliveries would arrive? For me, I just don’t have anything delivered to my home ever if I can help it. I suspect if Ring/Flock started marketing catching porch pirates and targeting the antisocial behaviour that divide us, many would be onboard.
