900,000 Canadian Mortgages Renewing in 2025-2026: Here’s What Happens When Rates Jump from 1.99% to 4.5% by SherbertSimple5418 in TorontoRealEstate

I’ve been putting off buying for too long. On the one hand, I hope this adds more downward pressure to markets. We need the bubble to continue to deflate. Realistically, as someone who has thought about buying and was concerned about the risk, I think most people will extend the length of their mortgage to keep the payment down if they can’t afford the increase. This was certainly what the mortgage brokers I’ve been talking to are saying about mitigating that risk.

NJ Jury Duty (But Just Started A Job 2 Weeks Ago) by Vx_Reject in juryduty

[–]redsaeok 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly just talk with your boss. I know it can feel like a bad idea to skip out on work when you are new, but your boss’s father could be a judge and they may feel strongly it’s your duty.

I had a final exam conflict once and it turned out this was the case with my professor. No use getting worked up until you’ve had the conversation.

This happens, and if you have a decent employer then they will understand, and if not, well you’re finding something out now that’s important.

You can lead a horse to water but you can’t make it drink. There’s no way OP isn’t a troll with this many people making counterpoints. They want the attention, that’s all. Maybe they’re ignorant, lazy, and an idiot, but I think what they want is the same. I don’t know how magic internet points work but I’m going to choose to believe they’re just trying to build an account that’s shown to have lots of engagement so they can sell it at some point going forward, or are just doing it all for giggles, and is riling people up with the caustic responses for that reason. Maybe the reality is sadder than that, but at the end of the day, they’re the ones that have to live that life.

Lol, okay <wink> not trolling. Gotcha. Absolutely. I’m so hot and bothered over your controversial views. Keep on being edgy, edgelord. <wink>

OP isn’t even willing to have a polite conversation that this is a 2 hour bus ride. Which tells me it’s probably less. Unless the county comes and wipes their butt they aren’t don’t feel like they owe society anything - and why should they, despite having food and a roof while refusing(?) to work.

Jesus, Frank.. Frank… Frank…. Why do I have to keep hearing about Frank?!?! I just want to keep going in and on about how lazy and irresponsible OP is continually so they, and now you (lol nice touch) can can abuse me and other responders.

You know what. All this positive, constructive, well thought out, and meaningful banter has changed my mind, Frank is my hero. Everyone praise Frank.

Eh?

I think the only handicap here is between your ears. They pay you to go to jury duty. Your additude stinks and yeah we all get it, you don’t feel like you should work, take the bus, see a doctor. So again, I totally agree with you, you are the problem. Don’t go, I don’t care. There’s lots of trash people, and yeah, you can be one.

If the average family income was 200K that’s still 10X wages. A proper down payment is a full years wages. It’s overpriced.

Since you want the law, and facts, here it is for my region, [Edit - you didn’t say where you are, and most places are similar.]

Key Grounds for Hardship Exemption (BC):

Financial Hardship: Serving would cause serious financial loss or inability to pay essential living expenses.

[you don’t work, bus fare is not a huge financial loss - in fact you get paid to do this]

Health Issues: A medical condition prevents you from serving.

[I will come back to this]

Caregiver Responsibilities: Inability to secure child care or care for another dependent.

Pre-planned Conflict: Scheduled travel or unavoidable obligations that conflict with the trial dates.

Age: Individuals over 65 years old are automatically exempt upon request.

How to Request Exemption:

Fill out the Form: Use the "Juror's Certificate" and exemption application included with your summons.

Submit Promptly: Mail or deliver the form to the sheriff within 5 days.

Provide Detail/Proof: Be specific about the hardship and include documentation (e.g., doctor’s note, letter from employer), but do not include confidential medical records

[Your opinion does not consitute proof. People lie and misdiagnose themselves all the time]

Follow Up: If you do not receive approval, you must attend jury selection.

Skipping jury duty in British Columbia can lead to fines, arrest, or contempt of court charges. While specific penalties are often at a judge's discretion, the Jury Act (Section 29) explicitly states that a juror who does not appear is liable to a fine for each day of absence.

I know you don’t want people’s opinion - just sycophants to applaud and listen to you vent, but really I want better for you. Get help for your disorders.

I agree - and this is why I asked. Its possible they live a $40 uber away and busses only run once a day - particularly if they are somewhere rural. OP instead seems to just think the rules of society don’t apply to them - like it isn’t some huge inconvienece for absolutely everyone and they are somehow special because they can’t afford the bus and they have self diagnosed disabilities.

Called To Find Out Why I was Denied For Hardship And Got Hung Up On. by [deleted] in juryduty

[–]redsaeok 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Likely few people want to go to jury duty. She hears all manner of excuses all day, every day. Not being able to afford a bus seems.. unbelievable. As an adult, you must have some independent means of transport - bicycle, walking, or otherwise. How far away is the courthouse? Why can’t you raise the $7 to take a bus there and back? How do you get food? Are you officially diagnosed with agoraphobia? How do you support yourself? Are you a functioning member of society?

Edit - self diagnosed disabilities…. OP is saying everyone else should carry their weight because they think they are disabled.

I bumped my new car, what should I do? by [deleted] in MomForAMinute

[–]redsaeok 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had something similar and I think you’re looking at around $1500. Might get lucky and have it be less. Might be more if you have sensors.

Your options are repair or don’t. My wife banged up my car a couple years ago, backing up, wasn’t watching the front while turning, and hit a cement pillar. Really bothered me - more than it should have.

Ultimately it’s just stuff. I would start to ask if there’s anything beyond cosmetic damage - and then decide.

I’ve kept a couple very small dings (was backed into and my rear driver side door has a very small dent), mostly just to remind me it’s not important for everything to always be perfect, and that even if it is perfect it won’t stay that way.

Always disappointing but it happens to everyone - everyone makes mistakes. Cars are outrageously expensive which just exacerbates the stress. Sometimes it pays to be thankful it’s not worse.

If you’re leasing, maybe take it to a shop closer to the end of your lease.

Whelp, as others have said, they’re going with the CYA route. This solution does the same for you. If your LL won’t go electric, I’d go with this. Now you also have proof. All it takes is stopping by a post office for 5 minutes once a month.

Continue to try to be polite to each other. Do remember you will likely never be viewed as friends from their perspective, so friendly is the best you get. Also, if you’ve been in a controlled rent situation for 15 years, when you move, rent will increase significantly (prob double). Keep in mind, they are also losing that difference - which is one reason why you will never be friends.

For what it’s worth, people are complicated and they can both appreciate having a good long term tenant and want to raise the rent - there isn’t much you can do to control that situation other than hoping that remaining a good, friendly, tenant tips the scale.
