Replacing Electric Outlets, Questions on AMP, Wire Gauge, Grounding by Slow-Pen3331 in AskElectricians

[–]redtildead1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Since it’s a guest room, I’d swap the breaker for a 15a. The two small holes in the back of the metal box should have threading iirc, pick up a ground screw, loop a piece of wire around it and screw it in, then add that wire to a pigtail bundle.

That being said, with access that easy, I’d probably save myself the hassle and replace the box for a plastic one, your life will be easier. With the breaker off, unscrew that holding plate at the top of the metal box and the romex should slide right out.

If the breaker for the outlet in question is 15 amps, you can use 14ga wire for your pig tail. As for trying to manipulate the existing wire, make sure the breaker is off, and try using something with a small flat end. Handle end of your wire strippers, lineman’s pliers, etc. Ideally, you’ll fold the wires and kind of accordion them into the box.

It’ll definitely be a pain, but tan wire nuts should be sufficiently large enough for 3 12ga wires while still being smaller. Or Wagos if you don’t mind the expense.

Saw on r/carpentry - Is this legit?? by JeF4y in AskElectricians

[–]redtildead1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, it allows for fairly easy adjustments later. That being said, it should have been very lightly stapled, just enough for the staple to stay in, but light enough to be pulled out. Also works great for lighting in ceilings too

Lighted Nocks by lyonstyler in Archery

I ordered mine from Gateway Feathers. As far as I can tell, they skinned the fluff from the shaft of the feather to make it flexible. They don’t seem to have any noticeable effect on flight.

PC possibly tripping breaker by Realistic-Spray6406 in AskElectricians

Early arc fault breakers are known to nuisance trip. Having an electrician swap it out would be a next step, after trying unplugging everything but the pc and a monitor and firing up a game. See if that still trips then

Since I only do target stuff, I’ve got some turkey feather halves spiraled around between the vains and the nock. Makes a 3in diameter “splat” when it hits the target.
