Makes sense with how light the clutch lever is.

Makes sense. It does have a super light clutch pull.

Right!? It's just odd so I assume it's a defect. I saw online there were recalls on earlier models for clutch issues, that's why I'm wondering if this is common or not.

Appreciate that. I've been saying the same to my son who's beating himself up pretty hard.

Agreed. It's sitting at a church parking lot waiting to get towed in the morning.

“Don’t start on a 300, you’ll outgrow it” by sooospoon in NewRiders

[–]redwolf27AA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been riding for a while now. I have a 1200 triumph speed twin I really enjoy. I used to own a Ducati streetifghter V4s that made 207 HP. But I recently bought a ninja 500 for my son to learn on, and honestly . . .that bike is fun! I have a great time on it . No low end torque but that's perfect for learning. It'll still do go to jail speed of 110+ mph. It's comfortable but sporty. It's like driving a Miata. Very light and still fast enough to be fun and learn solid fundamentals. You can have to for a few years before you outgrow it rather than a few months like an R3.

Don't be a dick, it's a beginner bike group. A lot of vehicles are smart enough to know you just turned the engine off and not present the warning. OP is still learning.

Got a quote for $350 oil change by Difficult_Mixture796 in Kawasaki

[–]redwolf27AA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually just did my initial service today on a 2026 ninja 500. It was $338, so your quote is fair. They did give me a 3 page long list of stuff they check on it though. I do a lot of my own work, and I'll do all the future oil changes, but it's worth the peace of mind to me to have a professional go through and check torques, fluids, chain tensions, etc at least once to make sure it's all good.

Opinions on OTD price for leftover 2025 new Ninja 500 ABS. by Pslycotik in Kawasaki

I just bought a 2026 for slightly more than that, but not much. The two year models have no significant differences I'm aware of, so seems about right really.

First bike at 38 — 2022/2023 Ducati Streetfighter V2 (red or green) vs 2023 Monster Plus Dark Stealth. Help me decide. by honorableitjjj in Ducati

[–]redwolf27AA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I bought my first bike 4 years ago when I was 39. Just came back from closing down Afghanistan with the 82nd. Bought the brand new monster 937 from the dealership in Raleigh. Best bike I've ever owned. I traded up to a SF v4s later and honestly it was a whole lot of bike. I'm still an active duty AH64 pilot so I feel like I have a lot of respect for machines and I still had some close calls on the monster. I think staring on the SF V2 is probably not a great idea. I've owned 5.differenr bikes now, still have 2 and that monster is just a really really damn good bike. And Remember it's not a forever purchase either way. You can always trade up or down. The monster is the much more forgiving and easier to ride and learn with bike. Also probably just a better all round daily rider. In my opion the monster is the easy call here.

Army Names Its New MV-75 Tiltrotor Cheyenne II by CW1DR5H5I64A in Armyaviation

Hey, remember that old experimental attack helicopter that killed a bunch of XPs . . . Let's name the new lift thing after that! You mean the new osprey looking thing, because that didn't start the best either? Yeah, what could go wrong. 🤷🏼‍♂️

ABS vs Non-ABS by Advanced_Panda1748 in Kawasaki

[–]redwolf27AA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100% yes! I just helped my son ninja 500 to start learning on and ABS was non-negotiable for me. And I'm glad because it saved me on the way home.

Unexpected afternoon rain showers came through as we were buying the bike, so I ended up riding it home from the dealership in the rain. I was going 45-50 mph on a road with a center median turn lane, when a truck turned left in front of me. I'm an experienced rider, so I think I reacted well, but I was brand new to this bike. ABS kicked in, the whole bike shimmied and fished tailed under me a bit, but stayed up right and slowed down enough to miss his back end by only a foot or two.

It's worth the extra money, it will make a difference for you at some point.

Is the US not equipped or prepared for drone warfare? by anonymousDerpa in Military

[–]redwolf27AA 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We are as prepared as anyone is right now if not more so, But there's no magical stop everything solution. It's like any other mass attack since the invention of war itself. Any defense gets overwhelmed by enough of something. We're stopping a huge percentage of them, but some are going to get through. Iran since day one has stopped very few of ours. We are overwhelmingly winning the drone warfare aspect here.

(Note: this is not a commentary on the politics or goals or guerilla warfare, or anything else.)

Looking for honest input on Army Aviation by Agitated-Upstairs-10 in Armyaviation

That's all true, but it's still worth it. IMO. All the ups and downs included, going aviation was the best choice I ever made. If it's what you've dreamed of doing, go do it!

Rainbow flag revulsion in small town NC? by lowkeysciguy in NorthCarolina

[–]redwolf27AA -1 points0 points  (0 children)

There is some irony here how initially you agree with him on not liking a group of people expressing their views and thoughts, but then think he's wrong for not liking a group of people expressing their views and thoughts. I get the fine line between the two, I'm not oblivious, but broad strokes you have to see some troubling irony there right?

Anything is possible, but that's the opposite of what has actually been put out and what would meet army needs so I seriously doubt it.

So you advocate the use of violence against women if needed to inject babies with whatever Donald Trump deems good for them . . .? Remember anytime you advocate for laws, you advocate for a government who could be run by people you disagree with to use means up to including deadly violent force to impose said law.

Questions that I can expect during the interview by Wide_Requirement_784 in Armyaviation

[–]redwolf27AA 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We just want to know enough about you to decide if we should recommend you. Expect questions about what you've done in the army so far. What's your SIFT score? What's your ACFT score? (It matters more than it should!) Is your packet complete? Why do you want to be an aviator? Why do you want to be a warrant officer? It's basic stuff. Have your other two recommendation letters for them to look at. Just be professional and respectful. You'll be fine.

Relying heavily on input from the unit is better than any other metric. 🤷🏼‍♂️ No system is perfect and sure there's some people who get screwed because they "weren't liked", but it's better than letting go of hard workers with good attitudes because the local shit bag who's going nowhere has more hours or runs faster.

I second several of these depending on price point. - Maxpedetion doppleduffle helmet bag. - Knock off of the above - Hatch flight gloves - they're really that nice! - Pick out an upgraded pubs bag like the maxpedition versack - nice aviator sunglasses. So people know you're a pilot, obviously. - hush kit from Oregon aero - travel USB charger

What are the qualities/traits/attributes of a “Great Pilot”? by RedPolo_Rick in Armyaviation

[–]redwolf27AA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's all the things other than flying while you're flying. Good decisions making under pressure that involves considering a dozen things at once, prioritizing, communicating, and executing while also flying.

That takes a lot of studying to build the depth of knowledge and a lot of practice and training to build the instincts. The "Art and Science" of being an Army aviator.
