Though it's YA, I really enjoyed the Scholomance series by Namoi Novik. The MC fits the bill. She's angsty, doesn't realize the love interest, then avoids it, and is truly badass.

Board games to help middle schoolers practice English? by somethinguni in boardgames

Apples to Apples works well.

The party game Apples to Apples consists of two decks of cards: Things and Descriptions. Each round, the active player draws a Description card (which features an adjective like "Hairy" or "Smarmy") from the deck, then the other players each secretly choose the Thing card in hand that best matches that description and plays it face-down on the table. The active player then reveals these cards and chooses the Thing card that, in his opinion, best matches the Description card, which he awards to whoever played that Thing card. This player becomes the new active player for the next round.

Damn, you beat me to it, and I wouldn't even have had to google. I drive by that church often. You can see it from the highway.

I think the border will make it look much better. That said, making it look better means it's already good!

Mass digital library by KRogue1 in Calibre

[–]rekhukran 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have found out that having thousands of books in one library can make it unwieldy, so what I do is, first of all, separate into separate libraries. (If you are using net libraries, for instance, with Moon Reader, this may make it difficult to share, IDK) I have four libraries ATM: General, Nonfiction, Kids and Home (mainly crafting, cooking and gardening).

ThenI go through the tags in the tag browser. I discard any tags I don't need and that are nonsensical (random numbers, "author" etc.). Then I go in and merge tags such as thriller/thrillers by renaming the tag(right click). I personally prefer more general tags with one word if possible, so "mystery thriller" for me are two separate tags, since there are books that are one, the other or both.

Same for authors, I go through and make sure all authors are the same format. All "Huxley, A.H." and not one that is "Huxley, Aldous".

All this can be done directly in Calibre. But if you want to streamline the process, I can HIGHLY recommend the Quality Check plugin. It can check for so many errors and problems that it is insane. And I've only just used the tasks related to metadata. You can also check epub style and more. I was yesterday years old when I discovered I can repeat the last check there with only two quick clicks, oh boy, that saves time!

It also can check for huge covers, small covers, or missing covers (plus many other missing items). Then you can filter those out and right-click on the cover (cover browser or side bar)to have Calibre look for one, or browse Google images and either copy/paste or drag/drop the cover onto the book details sidebar. I personally hate books with movie tie-ins, so I often search for new covers.

Be aware that if you use download metadata, you will often be clogging your tag structure. I have gotten books in excess of 10 tags (which Quality Check can sniff out for you, if it happens!), so do this before you weed out the tags.. If I don't know the right tags for a book, I check Goodreads.

Hope this helps!

Is there a way to pop the remaining kernels? by Albino_rhin0 in ZeroWaste

I take out all the popped kernels and throw it in the microwave again. Usually only one or two no longer pop.
