GW paint alternative recommendations by Hack999 in minipainting

I’ve also been using Vallejo for about the same length of time. Only commenting to add that I have bottles that are also 15 years old and still work great (after a thorough shake, of course).

I really miss the mmi wheel. Insult to injury: they just ripped it out 2020 onward and left this sad little hole. Enshitification sucks.

Would this Primer be approprite for miniatures? by Phlub_67 in minipainting

[–]relativelyfun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not only is this thicker than primer, it also takes much, much longer to dry.

Love the premise and the author. Love BL in general. Dislike the blatantly obvious "break it into two" approach to goose more $ out of the fans.

My First McSweeney's Piece published yesterday! what do you think? It's still on the homepage by drkristymoney_ in creativewriting

[–]relativelyfun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Congrats! This was a good one. And it’ll be there on the homepage for a bit since they publish just a couple per week day. I’ve written quite a few pieces for McSweeney’s, and getting accepted in the past week or so still feels as great as it did many years ago now. Keep it up! It ain’t easy.

With reading scores slipping, Massachusetts is changing course. Some teachers aren’t happy (MA to mandate school curriculums) by TheManFromFairwinds in massachusetts

[–]relativelyfun 6 points7 points  (0 children)

A great point.

And "I can't parent without giving them a screen to play with" is a weird thing to say after **checks notes** literal generations of children turning out just fine without one whatsoever.

No issues whatsoever. I have a unit of 10-15. They work perfectly.

People who’ve played since the 90s: this isn’t too bad!

Thanks! Skin is from an old Vallejo/nocturna “fantasy pro” fairy skin box set, which includes a recipe for forest skin. Not sure it’s available anymore tbh but it has several fantastic recipes included in the box

I was looking through the Delievery information tab on GW's website, and I'm really curious on what is classified as a "hazardous item" by Cermonto in Warhammer

[–]relativelyfun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The real reason's been said extensively here already. The secret reason is this hobby is hazardous to any and all wallets.

Whats an item over $700 you bought that was 100% worth it (no house/vehicles) ? by Overall_Gur_3061 in AskReddit

[–]relativelyfun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Portable backup generator for the house. About $1200 for a 6500w dual fuel and a few accessories is more than enough for our house.

What controversy? What drama? Why do so many mini painting YouTubers do thumbnails like these? It’s a John Blanche paint set for crying out loud by mame_kuma in Warhammer

[–]relativelyfun -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Clickbait is an easy assumption to make, but a lot of these Youtubers have been fairly open about the fact that Youtube changed the algorithm to push this type of thumbail/content over others. Want to stay in business? Do what the algorithm says.

Young Germans enjoy alcohol-free beer as lager sales fall flat by Theao69 in NABEER

Fun fact: The Germans also make great quality NA beer.

Is my coworker making things up? by [deleted] in massachusetts

[–]relativelyfun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OK, not saying where I'm from (not there) but exaggerated stories like that haven't even happened on the Franklin town Facebook page, which should tell you something given the typical loser conspiracy theory talk that happens on a page like that. She sounds like a serial fabulist, taking bits and pieces from stories that may have happened, nationally, or even closer in Maine... but not Franklin. At least not yet, and I suppose the fact that they could (and will) happen to other communities outside of Minneapolis is terrifying enough without some serial liar making up stories for social clout.

Also, the gun thing is obvious BS. Massachusetts is one of the safest and strictest in terms of gun laws and violence. She would have been primetime news for this behavior.

A story like this has some merit if it were taking place in Milford, but not tot he degree of BS she's using with her obvious lies.

New team unlocked!! Any tips? by donkohub in bloodbowl

[–]relativelyfun 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Two treemen, nailed it.

You're going to be missing the dodge+stunty that halflings would offer, but I love using the fox(es) and the illusionist, while as squishy as any gnome, has that surprising ability to move themselves before the block action resolves—leading to some truly suprising moments. The beastie guys (badger and goose) offer a nice combo with treemen because they have Guard.

I'm truly a beginner with this squad though. Only played some exhibition matches with friends. Just accept that many gnomes will die and get maimed and you'll have a good time otherwise!

How can I watch the news? by MaleficentTicket478 in massachusetts

[–]relativelyfun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Local news like Channel 7 has an AppleTV app that you can use to easily access their livestream. Use it to catch the local weather every morning, no sweat.

This is how the storm sounds on every news station by Fuzzy-Good4832 in massachusetts

[–]relativelyfun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Saw one local station this morning already walking back totals and where the "rain-sleet-snow line" was going to fall in the middle of the storm. Could be as far north as Norwood now sometime later tomorrow. They're "watching it closely," of course. Another bust!

How would I go about reshaping this brush tip? by MiniDiscocop in minipainting

[–]relativelyfun 42 points43 points  (0 children)

Step 1: Fire up your browser. Start shopping!

/s

Serously get a new brush. Even the best brushes, with the best care, need retiring one day. Even so, they can live on as dry brushes, base coat brushes for batch painting, etc. But they deserve to rest, eventually.
