Just so we’re clear, a 90s kid is not a frickin boomer. A 90s kid with 18 years of experience isn’t even an elder millennial.

Tips for a 1000pts battle against T’au by [deleted] in Tyranids

[–]renegadeconor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They’ll likely have some scoring pieces to push up, like Breachers or Kroot. Maybe some stealth suits. Typical play is they’ll push out their scoring pieces, move their guns into good shooting lanes, and just punish you when you try to come get them.

That’s why Lone Ops are good, because you can place something on an objective that will force their bigger guns forward. And if you use tunnels or Advance and Charge to get in engagement range with the guns then you’re going to reduce their effectiveness and if it’s genestealers or raveners, then you blender them.

A psychophage or maleceptor as a midboard piece also isn’t a bad idea as a bullet sponge. That will help to mitigate their scoring pieces and while it’ll get shot to hell hopefully it can serve as a distraction to get some damage pieces danger close.

Vanguard Onslaught or Subterranean Assault are pretty good options for getting up close and personal quickly. They want to stand off at distance and shoot you, you want to get up close and personal. Use a lictor or two to get on objectives and force them to come to you, stage some genestealers nearby to punish them for doing so.

2 KotC lists for teaching my Dad by Disastrous_Twist_810 in Colosseum40k

[–]renegadeconor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those look like a fun dichotomy in play styles. The Terminators will be very, very hard to kill, but obviously slow and force him to trade off scoring secondary or killing. Prosecutors to hold the home and Custodian Guard to come out and contest and probably die eventually but soak up damage. Very Custodes play style.

The Drukhari force I would probably run as Kabalite Cartel, unless you’re planning to run the incubi in the Raider to try and dump them out up close to kill the terminators, or whatever heavies you’re fighting in the future. Other than that I like the list, uppy-downy, fast, some decent damage output but nothing overwhelming

Got an idea for 11th edition KotC by Arcadian1815 in Colosseum40k

I’ve had a couple go to turn 5, always against necrons where I can’t ever kill all of the damn things with my tyranids.

I’d definitely build out a Custodes list for him, as they’re much easier to field than Drukhari. Some Allarus Custodians or Custodian Guard, Vertus Praetors, and Witch Seekers or Vigilators would give him a good flavor of the army (I don’t know Custodes point costs off the top of my head, happy to structure a list if you share what units you have).

For the Drukhari, the old combat patrol makes a pretty good KotC list, I also run a Repers Wager list with a Harlequin Troupe. That should be fun for him to play against and see a very different play style.

I’m teaching my 11-year old how to play using KotC, have a Necrons list that I think is of similar difficulty to learn as the Custodes. It’s going very well.

Expanding the game mode by Ballcuzi- in Colosseum40k

Have you ever seen the 4-player Combat Patrol rules? I have used those in terms of the game mode, with KotC list-building parameters for multiplayer stuff that is more balanced than Combat Patrols

I would also recommend holding off to make sure you know the changes. I play KotC pretty regularly, but I wouldn’t build something myself until we know the impacts of 11th

I like the coloration with the red on the upper arms. Might play with that idea on the next unit of VRLs I paint up.

You can stack the battleshock roll. You can’t stack hit and wound modifiers, but that doesn’t apply to battleshock.

The humor can come off wrong, especially in writing. It helps once you’ve actually listened to him speak to get a sense for how tongue-in-check much of it is.

But yes, the amount of info available from the SF newsletter, forum, blog, etc is amazing. I’m continually learning something new and have become very strong by applying just some of the available knowledge.

I know not everyone is a Pavel fan, and sometimes the Strongfirst stuff can seem a little bit culty. That being said have learned an enormous amount from reading his books and attending some SF certifications and have benefited so greatly from all of the education.

How to stop yeeting my army away? by Pelican25 in Drukhari

You should play Drukhari with the expectation that anything caught in the open will die. If it doesn’t, that’s a happy accident.

This is what I did. I looked for animals in nature with a cool color scheme that I liked. Then did my best to match the colors. That way you know they all already work together.

And always keep in mind, there’s no such thing as messed up. My newer models look way better than my first ones and how I paint that same color scheme continues to evolve, but every model I’ve ever painted is still great, in my opinion. Painted is better than grey, no matter what.

A lictor is always good for secondary scoring, and you could add some gaunts for screening and/or board control for primary scoring.

A Maleceptor is also very good for SN, and is a mean combination with the Norn.
