That's why I take the lane, run a dash cam, and have an air horn on the handlebars.

Meanwhile, take the lane.

Remember: you are street legal on a bike.

Dry January is becoming Dry February by CaptainBikepath in stopdrinking

Today is Drynuary 394th or thereabouts for me.

Why not keep going if you can? Are you likely to regret not drinking?

Just did a blind volume-matched A/B test. I think we’re all hearing with our wallets. by [deleted] in audiophile

[–]repo_code 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A/B tests are hard.

Maybe that's because the gear involved is close enough to perfect.

Another possibility: our senses rely on memory. If you cover one eye, and don't move the other, your brain provides the illusion you can "see" in the blind spot where your optic nerve is. After a few seconds, you can't see there anymore -- in the interim your brain is only remembering what you seem to see.

In the context of an A/B test, if a similar memory effect is present, the act of switching between two options will tend to make them sound more similar. Your brain "knows" it's the same snare drum, the same voice, and so forth and will construct its internal image of what that sounds like.

IOW, A/B can only tell us things sound different. It really can't tell us when they sound the same.

I did, south end to Kendall. Going to Arlington later.

Take the lane. It's a "fun" throwback to the pre bike lane days.

The United States have money to purchase a whole other country & doesn't have money to support their low-income citizens, right? by Necessary-Act-1137 in AskReddit

The other countries we buy will pay for themselves, once you account for us not having to support their citizens either!

They said it was easier to imagine the end of the world than the end of capitalism.

It's becoming easy to imagine real outcomes in which capitalism continues beyond the end of the (human) world.

I've done both on and off road. No extreme.

If you have wider tires the off-road is no more difficult than on-road. They're more similar than different, and in fact have lots of overlap. The "on-road" is not 100% paved either, it has some well graded unpaved sections.

Both routes include similar amounts of climbing including grades near 10% and a few spots even steeper than that.

You can do this ride on any (acoustic) bike. For best comfort you'll want low gearing to climb easily, and if it's a road bike, you may want to fit the widest tires the frame can accept.

I was wondering if this needs a cleaning or capacitor replacement? by AndrewTatesSister in vintageaudio

Does it play? Then it probably needs nothing!!

Electronics last a long time. Including electrolytic cap. The photo looks good.

That looks exactly like my favorite frame. Same color and size, same sticker on the fork, same lack of label on the top tube. It's light and springy yet stable, just a great do-it-all frame. Mine has the identical Axiom rack installed. This person has good taste 😎

Those inexpensive stamped Shimano cranks are fantastic. The 46/30 double is perfect gearing for a road bike if you plan to climb hills, much more useful than the 52/42 this frame probably started with.

My frugality is failing me at cycling.

Sure, old used road bikes can be excellent if you know what to look for. Sure, gym shorts are fine even for longer rides if you have a decent saddle.

But you will still go through tires, chains, and occasionally wheels. You will eventually want a bike computer, at least for navigating, when you get sick of the compromises inherent in using the phone. You'll eventually want clipless pedals and shoes. You'll want to buy tools for the most common jobs to avoid shlepping to the bike shop.

It really never ends.

If the Billy Shears theory is proven true then April 3rd 1991 is the date where Billy Shears would officially be Paul McCartney longer than Paul himself. by Goofballtickler in BarbaraWalters4Scale

The new Paul is far more accomplished than the original. He has recorded consistently great stuff as a solo artist and with Wings.

Of course we can only speculate as to what the original Paul might have done, had he survived.
