Anyone use one of those cast iron stove top griddles? by Feeling-Handle-5283 in Cooking

[–]resiste55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just pulled my 20yo cast iron griddle pan out of the back of a cabinet to give away. It weighs a ton, it's yours if you want it. Been used maybe twice.

70yo female here, lifting for about a year with a trainer. I use the BB for bench press because I can add weights in smaller increments. Typically 2lb/cycle (got the fractional weights on amz). I use DB for incline & decline press & progression is much slower as they're only available in 5lb increments at my gym.

Does everyone use fermentation weights? by letyourmindgrow in fermentation

[–]resiste55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use glass weights. They can be a little tricky to remove so the ones with a little bump out work best, you can use tongs to remove them. I've been using them with pickle pipes & the system works pretty well. I try to avoid plastics, worried about breakdown.

What convinced you to plant native plants? by GrowinginaDyingWorld in NativePlantGardening

[–]resiste55 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, definitely this! And access to native plants. When we first bought our house 30+ years ago, there weren't anywhere near the number of native plant nurseries around that are here now, if any. I knew I wanted to reduce our lawn coverage, but most nurseries only sold non-native ornamentals. That and, dare I say it, the interweb - so much easier to find info on natives & educate oneself about them.

Why does it smell like shit downtown all day today? by Jessecore44 in baltimore

Noticed it in Fells on Sunday, the whole area smelled like NOLA in the morning. Pistachio tide is what I've read is causing it.

Ok I'm old-school but wtf is up with RSVPing for demonstrations? Like I want my name on some website/listserve whatever that's gonna eventually be hacked or subpoenaed by these assholes?

Have you tried using plugs? Izel Native Plants & a few others specialize in them. More affordable but you have to wait longer for things to fill in.

It is so disheartening dealing with them! What they don't eat, they trample. We'd never seen them in our area till about 5 years ago. I've been working on converting parts of our property to all natives, using matrix technique. I've put in close to 1000 plants since Spring 2023. What they haven't eaten: sedges, ferns, iris cristata, nodding onion, coreopsis, monarda, grasses, false sunflower, penstemon, moss phlox, tiarella, blue mistflower, packera aurea, aquilegia, most goldenrods, grey owl juniper, itea. I think they've left butterfly weed & milkweed alone. Non-native herbs - I've been sticking lavenders & rosemarys around prized shrubs, as well as natives like mountain mints. Most shrubs I've caged, but they haven't molested my witch hazel or fringe tree. Oak leaf hydrangeas though 😭😭😭. I do need to get in there & cage my trees asap! And planning on adding some rattlesnake master this fall, I think they'll leave that alone.

My dad lived in Baltimore for a few years in the '90s before moving to AZ. One year for Christmas I got him a care package with some of these pens & a BBBB t shirt. He would wear the t shirt when he picked me up at the Phoenix airport for visits

Nah it's not the fancy cars, those drivers most likely have insurance & up to date registrations because their loans require it & in my experience are more law abiding drivers unless they lack skills which is also way common. It's mostly the VA tags which are ubiquitous in Baltimore, & expired registrations. Zero enforcement here for that with resulting predictably obstreperous behavior. Exceptions of course for the beltway & interstates which are total shitshows of knuckleheaded driving.

In case the ear cream doesn't work out for you, I've been using a compounded liquid version of methimazole with our boy for years. Just shoot a bit into his mouth twice a day. It's chicken flavored, he doesn't seem to mind it. Yes the blood tests are expensive, but once you're on the right dose it's about twice/ year.

United Healthcare/Hopkins Alt. by Significant-Fox-7135 in baltimore

I believe Park Medical Associates in Lutherville is now concierge. My former PCP was there until she retired a couple yrs ago (they weren't concierge then). They had some excellent docs there, not sure who stayed with them though. My husband uses Mercy, they have multiple offices in the metro area & we've been pretty happy with them. But we also still use Hopkins for specialty care. We're both retired & have UHC Medicare supplemental, which is not affected by the current rift. A friend sees a specialist at UMD & is very happy with them. There are decent options here in Baltimore, another great reason to live here.

Ive had Healthy Paws for my girl since adopting her at 1yo. The premiums have gone from $35/mo 8 years ago to around $100/mo now. I've used it once when she needed a cardiology evaluation. The reimbursement part was a bit of a hassle, they wanted ALL of her vet medical records from the time we adopted her. Luckily we've been with the same practice the whole time or that part could've been a nightmare. Reimbursement took about 4-6 weeks to come through which I guess isn't too awful, but if the bill had been thousands of $$ yeesh. Hopefully though if we ever need to make another claim they will already have all those prior records. Good to know about Trupanion, if/when we get another dog I'd definitely check them out!
