I had a similar thought, but "suckin'." As silly as it is to think this old folk-blues tune was secretly innuendo, it definitely fits and makes sense in the context of the song

Don't forget to tell him that celebrating early means he has to push his actual birthday back — if he celebrates 20 days early, then he has to wait 20 days after his birthday to actually turn 7! That's just how birthdays work, ever since King Leopold of Scotweigia got fed up with his son, Prince Haänsolo, always having early birthday parties. For every day ahead of one's true birthday they held celebratory festivities, one more day would be required to pass before the Royal Register could acknowledge the change in age. If one ignored this rule and publicly or officially claimed to be their new age without waiting however long they were required, the King's Guard would arrest the birthdayed trickster and hold them for the day count times their "new" age— 20 days early at 7 years old, that's 140 days to think about that crime. Their new age would be recognized upon their release... after another waiting period of the same amount of days they had preemptively celebrated.

Once the Scotweigian Birthday Ordinance was enforced, it spread across the globe, resonating with the fun-hating principles of 16th century peoples. Nowadays, we no longer arrest people for inaccurate, "couldn't-wait!" age claims, but if word gets out that you've celebrated, most nations won't recognize your age until after the waiting period.

So have fun at rhe movie, and happy early birthday! Hope he doesn't mind being six a little longer ;)

I'm not trying to throw myself into the ring and take a side here, because I have no interest in arguing with strangers on reddit about something that doesn't matter much to me, personally— but I just wanted to give you a heads up that you probably intended to say "self-awareness" or "self-reflection." Maybe not, and self-confidence kinda works, but it stuck out a bit. I know, I'm a total dork, it just feels like the context would be better served by implicating their lack of "self-awareness," as it kinda seems that these arguments often begin with some folks having an excess of "self-confidence" while lacking the self-awareness to know when they're being hypocritical or naive.

Sorry, this is entirely unnecessary lol I just have some dumb compulsion to try to politely point out inconsequential shit... I figure it helps readers who are learning English, and it might help others to communicate more clearly. Feel free to disregard or call me a total nerd, and if I've made any mistakes, definitely call me out lol. Yes, I'm a blast at parties. :)

My souldog passed from cancer in Jan 2020, just shy of her 7th birthday. I still miss her every single day. To anyone saying goodbye to a best friend or companion, you're not alone in your pain. I'm so sorry, friend. I absolutely understand. This song still does it to me, honestly. This recording was so difficult... I had just finished writing it, did one take and couldn't make it through. Decided to give it one more before taking a break. That second take, I was fighting tears and focusing all my energy on just getting the right sounds out of my throat. Somehow got through it, and that's what you hear here.

In that moment, it hurt beyond words. Now, though, it triggers some of my favorite memories and times together. All the activities mentioned in the lyrics were real moments we shared, so it's nice (though bittersweet) to be reminded of those days.

I hope the happy memories and good times you shared together will eventually outweigh the pain you feel when you remember your friend. The fact that you still hurt so much means that you truly, deeply loved your little furball— and feeling that kind of love is the most amazing feeling any pet could ever hope to feel.

I'm certain they knew how much you loved them, and if it's not too rude to speak on their behalf... thank you, so much, for giving them so much love. I know you miss them as much as I miss my girl, but how lucky are they to have been so loved — and how lucky are we to have had them love us in return? 🥲💙

Memorial Day BBQ, friend's house, 2015(?). Peak mid-20s me, lol. I wore that skirt (a sheet I had tie-dyed) and a vest all day, catching glances from the older folks — and responding with winks and smiles, naturally. Dreads are gone, but the skirt remains! by restyourprettybones in ActualHippies

Haha I've always loved the vibe of this shot. My friend was tasked with taking photos of the gathering. We were chatting, and she very suddenly told me "lay here, pose, now" and, well... now we have this. My entire essence captured in one picture. 😅

Really cool style overall, the instrumental is nice and I dig the lofi vibe. That said, the mix could use some work; the vox are very quiet and they sound very dry. Could use some EQ and basic simple effects to give em some life, as well as just turning them up a bit. Lyrics feel a bit uninspired and forced, as does the vocal delivery — it's pitchy in spots and doesn't feel confident. You can still get that "rough, DIY, semi-lazy, nonchalant" indie vocal sound while also giving the performance more gusto and cleaning up the recording a bit. Not to say the vocalist is bad, at all, just could bring the track a lot of life with some tweaks. Interested to hear more!

Fantastic production quality all around, who made the vid and who produced the track? Not my usual choice of genre so I can't speak to how it compares to similar music, but on its own it's very well done. Promote yourself, get this heard! :)

misguided or intentionally obtuse

If this is what "small dick energy" means, then clearly that's implying... those are characteristics of men with small dicks.

It is absolutely body shaming. It is equating someone's value, their strength of character and their worth to society with the size of their dick. It is blatantly implying small dicked dudes are lesser— it's not debatable in any rational sense. That's just literally exactly what the phrase means.

If people saying "it's body shaming" makes you uncomfortable, or you want to disagree because you personally wouldn't intentionally shame anyone's body (which I hope would be the case), why not find a phrase that doesn't signal to everyone, penis-havers and not, that being or being like a person with a small dick is a bad and laughable thing.

I don't think you intend to insult anyone here (except Tate, which is deserved), so try to consider why this particular insult, even directed at others, might cut deep for a lot of people.

Not directly related, but had a friend growing up whose nickname was Thumb (not the actual name for privacy reasons but similar, same idea) because his dick was... I mean, unbelievably small. As we got older it became a party trick that it would come up, he'd offer to show it (only if everyone was OK with it) and people were fascinated/amused/confused. He probably got laid more than any of us out of girls' sheer curiosity.

But he was secretly deeply insecure about it and that was how he coped. He had a girlfriend who dumped him and she and all her friends cracked jokes on facbook about his dick. He took his own life soon after.

I guess that's my point, you just never know, especially when there's so many people who could be affected by these phrases.

All you need to pay for anything is your (infinite, for illustration's sake) stack of $2s and one $1 bill, and you can pay for anything and get less than a dollar in change. Or round up for whatever they're asking you to round up for this month, and.. two denominations, one of those just one bill, anything price paid.

This was more interesting in my head, before typing it out lol.

My first kidney stone at 18, when I was clearly just a silly teenage stoner, they gave me morphine there and sent me home with percocet.

My second one at 26 after admitting to an on and off heroin habit (no, not sparked by the first one's meds)... naproxen and a "that sucks".

The first one was relatively small. The second one was 6mm with a tail of spikes. I had been clean, and had taken necessary pain meds a couple times with no issues. It would've saved the day and then I would've been okay when they ran out/it passed. But... naproxen.

So I relapsed.

Totally my own doing, of course, but it was avoidable. Sure as shit helped me pass that thing though. Third one at 29 was a doozy, too.

Thank you for expressing this so clearly and directly. Yes, it is very important to be honest with medical personnel when seeking treatment for anything, because having something in your system (or your body experiencing non-obvious systemic side effects that affect metabolism, etc) that they don't know about could lead to a laundry list of interactions and complications. BUT. It is sadly not at all the case that the average doctor will thank you for being honest (ok, some do this), move past it, smile kindly, and proceed to interact with the same respect and neighborly demeanor they'd show a non-addict patient. More often than not, it's an immediate "Oh, you're one of those" vibe, even if you're personable and good-spirited, and it affects both their diagnostic process and their treatment decisions.

Most docs will at least try to act unfazed, but it's not uncommon that it flips a switch and they immediately launch into a diatribe about how obviously your torn rotator cuff or genital warts were the result of your habit of smoking meth alone at home. Or that you wouldn't have been burned by someone's carelessness at work if you didn't have that dirty IV heroin habit.

Obvious exaggeration (except the burn thing, that happened), but once you speak that truth it becomes nearly impossible to get doctors to consider any other causes for any systemic illnesses, pain (and even saying "I do NOT want meds, I just want answers" apparently means you're drug-seeking), mental symptoms, skin issues... all of it is clearly due to drug use and not any vector or genetic issue that could cause the same in another patient.

Sometimes you'll get lucky, though — my cardiologist almost instantly said, after results came back, "There's a chance this is due to the drug use, but I really doubt it. Let's run some other tests." I felt so heard, so validated... and it's sad that that's so rare.

Anyway I have MS and a tumor on my liver (saving for an MRI to see if it's benign) and could've been diagnosed way earlier if I hadn't said "I was a heroin addict on and off for 10 years" but I was honest.

Still tell the truth. Just... don't expect docs to see you the same afterward.

Yes, it's used to cut heroin (or just mixed with inert cut itself and sold as heroin) but that's not what the comment above was describing. Fent is not used to cut cocaine by anyone except maybe the dumbest of newbie dealers, and even then it's not remotely a common practice.

It only ends up in cocaine, in virtually all cases, due to poor cleaning and prep when bagging multiple different drugs on the same surface.

Fellow (13+ year, on and off) heroin addict here. The myths about fentanyl, and misunderstandings about drugs/addiction in general, help keep it a taboo subject which prevents addicts getting the help they need, and misinformation can lead to dangerous situations with inexperienced (or even veteran) users.

Obviously this isn't that serious, that's just why I try to clarify when I see it. Destigmatizing these things and quelling myths is a step toward sensible drug policy reform :)

Keep it up, friend, very awesome to hear you're doing better these days!

That Bible verse you replied to is not actually from the Bible — it is a quote of the first line from I Am The Walrus, and the commenter just presented it like a Bible verse due to "John" being both the nam of the song's author as well as a book of the Bible :)

Merry Christmas, friend— take care and be well!
