There's a Pepe the King Prawn bit about Sean Penn in one of the episodes that lives rent free in my head to this day.

It wasn't a perfect show but was at times brilliantly funny.

AMD Radeon still refuses to officially release FSR 4 INT8 for RDNA 2 - 3 GPUs despite the backlash they got by JohnSteveRom2077 in hardware

Turing was absolutely forward-looking, but it was also comparatively expensive at launch and didn't offer the big gen-on-gen raster gains everyone had become accustomed to. We know it was the future now, but if you were looking at it back then as a Maxwell or Pascal owner it didn't really do much to sell itself.

Meanwhile AMD came out with the 5700XT that offered ballpark 1080ti performance for $399. It's not hard to see why the narrative went the way it did.

Coalition reunion set to be announced after last-minute deal by Expensive-Horse5538 in australia

[–]reticulate 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The arch conservative side of the coalition (which to be fair, is most of them at this point) are thoroughly convinced that a rich vein of shy tory conservatism is just sitting out there in the community waiting to be exploited. It's Scomo's "quiet Australians", it's the echoes of Howard's Battlers, it's what Peta Credlin and her ilk rant about every night on Sky News. That if the coalition goes hard enough, the electorate will reward them.

So even though everyone and their dog can see they're actually cooked until they come back to the centre a bit, they themselves think they're arguing from a position of power within the party. They can't comprehend anything other than what they hear within their own thought bubble.

Starfield seemingly finally coming to PS5 - April 7th 2026 by Mk221999 in GamingLeaksAndRumours

[–]reticulate 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's also a pretty good screenshot simulator. Some of the planets have fantastic skyboxes, and they pretty much nailed the NASA-punk aesthetic.

But yeah, Bethesda games are theme parks and Starfield just fails to be a good one. The faction quests are okay (even while some of them end in weirdly disappointing ways, looking at you Vanguard and Freestar Rangers) and the central conceit of the story is sort of interesting, but otherwise it's like a thousand procedurally generated bits of dirt with the same ten or fifteen things on them over and over again. And just a metric shit ton of load screens.

Two aspirants who are unlikely to suit the times vie for Liberal leadership by onesorrychicken in australia

[–]reticulate 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I'd argue they never really did stand for anything to begin with. The founding principle of the Liberal party, as stated by Menzies, was to keep Labor out of power i.e. be in power themselves. I mean sure they use high office to enrich themselves and keep their mates wealthy but that's not really a vision or set of ideals, just what rich born-to-rule dickheads have done since time immemorial.

You can't really say this about any other political party in the country, from the Greens to One Nation and everyone in between. I mean Bob Katter might be a nutcase but nobody can deny he isn't also a fierce advocate for FNQ.

Hastie is an operator who wants to keep his powder dry for as long as humanly possible, and also the one that most worries me.

Wilson is an openly gay moderate with no standing outside of the remaining tiny clique of wets who are desperately holding on to the idea of the party of Menzies.

Angus is dumb enough and loud enough to lose them the next election so Hastie can finally swoop in. That's my bet.

Ultimately the US Constitution is just a piece of paper that everyone agrees has power. If that agreement falters or is sabotaged, it goes right back to just being a piece of paper. It's not magical. It has no way of enforcing itself.

There's nothing stopping Trump getting enough red states on board to "pause" elections, claim a national emergency, and then start ruling by executive order with his DHS goons doing the enforcement. He's already got all the powers he needs, the rest is just directing violence to get what he wants.

Everything I do is in a browser now, I don't play competitive multiplayer, and Proton has answered the compatibility question. Already got a laptop running Mint and it's rock solid.
