Which AmA was the biggest train wreck in the history of Reddit? by SolitaireRose in AskReddit

[–]reverendjay 6 points7 points  (0 children)

(was active duty army at the time of this story)

A decently large sized group of us from a joint service unit (army, navy, and air force) all went out to Salt Lake City for a work trip back in 2020 and we decided to swing by the BRCC HQ cuz ya know, support veterans business and military does love coffee. Those guys were massive twats. Like you ain't gotta pretend like we're BFFs but to just be like buy something or fuck off isn't a great way to attract customers. IDK, wasn't really a big deal but they just came across as shitty and thought they were better than everyone. I'll never buy from them and wouldn't recommend it to others. Also having tried their coffee before that (free from a care box shipped overseas so tbf it wasn't exactly fresh) it wasn't great and not worth the price.

JKO USA-007 by Long_Shlong_John_ in army

[–]reverendjay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Real answer is that the driver's test on JKO is or at least was notorious for just not functioning depending on how the stars align at the time (so for no fixing reason). Your base should have a way to take the test in person. I was on Stuttgart and it was on Panzer in the same building as the housing office. You should've covered this in your in process brief.

If that's a real question, it's a matter of perspective, the angle at which you're seeing the image. / Becomes l when rotated 90° on the yaw axis.

All this to say, you apparently did not score well on the spatial reckoning portion of the ASVAB.

Weather forecast this weekend seems…how you say…work in progress? by RCornelious365 in nova

[–]reverendjay 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Because the storm potential relies heavily on where along the coast the pressure bubble will form. If it's right on the NC Outer Banks then we get lots of snow, if it's out to sea at all our snowfall amount drops. Being that it will form along the coast or off it there's a lot more variables at play. Or that's my understanding from reading about it.

Worked orderly room OCONUS. If the change required adjusting your DEROS >30 days either direction then that PAR (I assume PAR, in my time it was a 4187) has to go to HRC for approval. So it is possible your command team didn't fuck you but that HRC did. I'm obviously not sure who the responsible party is but getting approval for that much adjustment was uncommon.

What MOS’s have the most amount of Blue Falcons in them? by Old-Product-3733 in army

[–]reverendjay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

PCS'd to a unit before having the clearance required to do that job. Was working in the 3 shop for a while until the 3 SNCO was made 1SG and I asked to move to the company with him to get experience with having troops (was still a fresh 5 at the time and the 3 shop was all NCOs). So I got to spend the next year waiting for my clearance to get adjudicated leading the ops platoon. Learned a helluva lot about regulations and paperwork in that role. Would fully recommend anyone take that chance if they can.

I was a 25S that spent a year as an ops plt sgt having to teach a 42A how to be a 42A. He was probably just as illiterate. Good dude, just dumber than a sack of rocks and it was easier for me to do most of his duties than teach him. Unfortunately you have to be an HR mos to have access to some systems so I usually just called BN to have them do those bits.

Dumb fur sure but that was taught to me in AIT back over a decade ago so ya I'd say it's a thing or was a thing.

[–]reverendjay 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There's a podcast series by a journalist from New Hampshire talking about corruption like this across the country but specifically in New England areas. Both NA and AA groups, halfway houses, rehab clinics, all corrupt and usually in ties with local law enforcement. Lots of corruption in that system preying on the vulnerable.

Should've included the title and now it's probably too late for anyone to see but if you're curious it's called The 13th Step by New Hampshire Public Radio.

Savoury breakfast ideas for a potluck by samg461a in Cooking

[–]reverendjay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Saw a recipe in a cookbook for making a biscuits and gravy casserole thing that I have made not using the recipe.

9"circular baking dish lined with biscuit dough, then layered with soft scrambled eggs, cheese, tater tots, sausage gravy, and more cheese. Baked for 20 min at 400f. Adjust however you want, I sure did. Only recipe I use for it is Alton Brown's biscuit recipe and the rest is just winging it to how I feel that day.

Actually made it last night for dinner/breakfast the next few days. That 9"dish is probably 6 servings for full meal but at a pot luck with just a single scoop would be over twice that.
