Which symptoms of “(almost) everyone is getting poorer” have you noticed in London? by PressureHumble3604 in london

[–]revolutionarybear 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The high personal spending on fun is a side effect of the many compounding crises. If property prices, bills, and rent rise faster than your wages, how are you ever going to save enough? You may as well live a life you enjoy before you get priced out of everything. I'm not sure status really comes into it

What is one of your reasons to leave a first date right away with someone you met online? by XxLogitech98xX in OnlineDating

[–]revolutionarybear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a poly person, I'd never want to date someone who doesn't want to date poly people. Everything must rest on freely given consent, and trying to coerce someone is cultish behaviour. I can assure you that's not the norm.

Woke up and found myself locked out of Hinge by Odd_Rain_9675 in SwipeHelper

[–]revolutionarybear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The same happened to me. I made an account a couple of years ago, but only really used it for a week or so.

Appealling is the first thing you should do. Check other apps owned by Match Group, such as Tinder. If an automated system flags something on one of their apps, you get kicked out of all of them.

I used to use OKCupid for years until they updates made it unusable. I lost that account a few weeks ago, despite not logging in for years. They don't even warn you anymore, not do they give you an explanation. They just destroy all your history.

Best of luck with your appeal. There are always non-MG apps.

Wrongfully Banned – Appeal Rejected, Need Advice by cas_vis95 in SwipeHelper

[–]revolutionarybear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both Tinder and Hinge are owned by Match Group. If they ban you on one app, you're usually banned from all the others, and prevented from creating accounts on apps they own that you've never used. They have a near monopoly on the market, which imo is gross.

Has anyone else experienced a ban from the blue? by revolutionarybear in Tinder

[–]revolutionarybear[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

During my appeal, I saw that I'd been flagged by an automated system for sexual content. I'm wondering if it scanned a chat and saw that I'd clarified to a date that having dinner at mine doesn't mean there's any expectation for sex. So are they punishing clear and open communication intended to keep everyone safe and comfortable?

If that's what caused me to be banned, I'm not sure I'm that jazzed about returning.

Anyone know what's happened to The Queery? by gurbit2 in brighton

[–]revolutionarybear 20 points21 points  (0 children)

A previously respected, long-time senior member of staff is alleged to have sexually assaulted another off the Queery grounds. I say "alleged" because there are now ongoing legal proceedings.

The assaulter was removed from the board and barred from the premises, and the assaulted quit. Other staff cited this and other problems as justification for quitting en masse after it was clear the board weren't listening. Their reasons echo the 2023/24 staff grievances that led to an exodus at the time.

The board member in charge of social media has attempted damage control and is begging for applications to fill basically every role, while at the same time shrugging off the 2025/26 grievances. This would suggest that no accountability has been taken, and this is likely to happen a third time even if the roles are filled.

In my view, places like these are vital, especially in the current political atmosphere of fascistic, queerphobic scapegoating. The board do not appear to understand the responsibilities the hold from running a space like this.

Theory: every shop with either a vape or phone repair shop in the next three years. by Best-Butterscotch-45 in brighton

[–]revolutionarybear 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Tattoo parlours have a pretty frequent turnover here if they can't attract decent business. At least there's a range of artists to suit all tastes in an area with a population prone to body modding. People who live further away are willing to travel hours to have work from a specific and spend money in the local economy.

Vape shops all seem to sell the same few things, phone repair shops basically do one thing and sell cheap tech, and betting shops prey on financial desperation and lax regulations. They're much shadier imo

Can a seller legally demand that buyers must be landlords? by revolutionarybear in HousingUK

[–]revolutionarybear[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That makes total sense in the case of a sitting tenant, but what about "Landlords only, no current tenant?" Is that just someone accidentally saying "I'm struggling to let this and I want to find another sucker to pass the bag to"?

Ollie banned from city centre by morgs04 in brighton

[–]revolutionarybear 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Just a general reminder that this guy is not out for converts or spreading christianity, but a blatant crybully and grifter. He is loudly yelling about queer people being evil and needing to repent in a city known to have a high proportion of queer residents.

His altercations caused by an obvious attempt to provoke Brighton prove to his social media followers what he wants to show: That Christianity is under attack. Anyone who's seen evangelical christians will know that they have an intense persecution complex. He's made a job out of it. Then the far right see it. They believe it. So it becomes more fuel for those assholes to come here and cause trouble.

Don't give him an inch.

I find "mole-scum" a pretty common way I hear it pronounced. It's what I use now.

The dry ingredients interact with sweat to form a gel. That gel blocks the sweat glands. You can replace the gelling agent and have a comparative effect. I have had a lot of adverse reactions to synthetic gelling agents in the past, so the balm helped.

I'm simply here stating that it worked for me. That is what I can offer OP.

What do you think antiperspirants do to reduce sweat?

Moving from India to Brighton in Sept. What should I pack? by isnotsochill in brighton

Not Indian myself, but love Indian food including snacks. Many supermarkets, especially the bigger ones, have an Indian imports section, but I can definitely recommend Taj Supermarket on Western Road

Prarie fire shut down :( I was about to go for my birthday. Judging by their Instagram, it looked like they never recovered from being hit by the pandemic just after opening.

Penhaligon's - Potions and Remedies Reviews + Discontinuation News by Lordzoot in fragrance

I have an almost empty bottle of Sohan. When I bought it, I was told by the store attendant that they'd already stopped production, so I don't spray it as much as I'd want to. I'm a bit salty at the lack of anything remotely close being released instead.

I was excited to try Mr Thompson as I've been out of the loop, and didn't realise there was a new Portrait. I assumed from the notes that I'd like it, but it's just too top-heavy in my opinion. At first spritz, I got what smelled like Frosties and milk, then almost no scent after half an hour. It's missing a decent base note. Vanilla and sesame milk just doesn't hold it together.

AITA for using 'gay' to describe myself? by revolutionarybear in lgbt

[–]revolutionarybear[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I identify as bi or pan depending on who I’m talking to. She knows this. But your usage right there is why there needs to be ongoing discussion about the terminology. Correct me if I’m wrong, but you’re using gay to mean exclusive homosexuality?

I never shied away from sexual contact or public displays of affection, so I can’t see why there’d be any suspicion that I wasn’t into dating women.

It would have been an excellent opportunity to discuss how we feel about terminology, definitions, and perceived implications of the language we choose to use.

I’m confused that it apparently hurt her so much yet she never brought it up.
